Ousmane Dembele

You can't press high effectively if your midfield, Fullbacks, and CBs don't move up in tandem once the press is triggered.
Exactly, so whose fault is that? If ole wants us to be the fittest side and yet we are outrun and outpressed, he is failing on what he's literally set out to do.

He can say "I want to be organized and counter" and I wouldn't have started this issue. But he actually wants his squad to press and be the fittest and we are way off the boil in that regard.

How do you know Cavani doesn't want to come?

Not to make this thread about Cavani, but both his agent and his mother have said this while his contract was running down. Something alone the line of he doesn't want to join a club for money, with the examples cited being us, Chelsea, and I believe Inter Miami.

We can't be the fittest at this stage for obvious reasons. We kind of were for the last 3ed of last season.

It's not about fitness but rather players like our CBs (Maguire&Lindelof) and our fullbacks and midfielders who are not physically suited to enforcing the press by their inability to step into the vacated space high up the pitch, which makes the press ineffective.

Begs the question why he spent £120m on defenders that aren't suited to a high press if this is where your point comes to.

He looks incompetent whichever way you slice it. Next thing you know wel see dembele not able to press because of his knees or some shit.

Don’t think it will happen anyway. You’d think a deal would have had to be done for this to make the deadline.

To be honest with you VP I've been asking the same question for over a year now.

Get the lad in, we’ll see what we can do with him.

Mentally ,from our players perspective, to play a constant pressing style you need a somewhat underdog mentality. Our players are ,for the majority, a bunch of billy big-b*ll*cks.

But this is going waaaaaaaay off course from Dembele.

I've thought this for a while now. We'll only get him if Barca are willing to let him go on loan. No way we're paying what Barca are asking for a player with a bad injury record.

When was the last time a players injury record got better at our club? Serious question.
The only example I can think of whose injury record actually improved at United is Ryan Giggs. Wasn't exactly yesterday.

Though admittedly, we rarely sign players with known injury issues. Those few, however... none of them managed to shake those problems off here.

I am Ole's biggest advocate but I do think there's an element of truth in what you're saying. Honestly, who knows who really makes the signings at Man Utd. However, you have to deal with the hand you've been dealt.

Its obvious, to all and sundry, that this team cannot play a high line and it really cannot play out from the back with such low levels of technique in our defence.

It might be an ugly way to play. It might not win us any plaudits. However, just tell De Gea to kick it long. Bailly trying to pass short across the box for Spurs' third goal. Why? Why do we insist on trying to be Barcelona 2011 with Man Utd 2020 players? De Gea shouldn't be going short to our defenders. They can't cope with the ball to feet. Lamp it down field and win the second ball.

As for Dembele, if he can stay fit he'll be a serious asset. Its a gamble but we're in a position where we have to gamble now.

We aren't organised either so I'd take issue with that, too, though that is somewhat beside the point here.

Looks like we can't afford him.

When was the last time we had a decent right winger at the club? Valencia, a decade ago?

That’s the big question isn’t it, is he really just crocked or is there some other reason he keeps getting injured I.e Barca’s training methods? If it’s the latter then he may be worth taking a risk on but we have to be sure first we can “fix” him. Although with are own injury record being terrible I wouldn’t hold my breath.

This might be unpopular but if Demebele can stay fit he has potential to be a better signing than Sancho.

Not a chance, Dembele has never been as prolific as Sancho. It's not just Dembele's injury record, his attitude seems incredably questionable with both the National coach and club coaches calling him out on it. If he had the potential why would Barca, a club in rebuild mode be looking to off load him?

I wonder if its worth taking the punt at £55mil (€60mil) as many outlets have said is what Barcelona want for Dembele. Need to sell so they can bring in Depay and Eric Garcia. I think i would take the punt. Young enough to get your money back down the line.

Definitely a talent, Koeman doesnt fancy him and Barcelona are a mess (almost bad as us at board level).

Hirst and Castles said they would let him go for around £65M.
According to the Catalan outlets Barca want between €50m to €60m. Hirst only last week reported that a deal could be struck for £45m which is what's being reported today in Barcelona.

£20m loan bid with a £20m fee next summer would be good.

£40m in total spread over 2 summers.

What sum are Barca asking?
He played 9 competitive games last season. Nine. Anything above a bag of crisps is already a bit too much.

But seriously, for 30m I'd maybe consider it a worthwhile gamble but obviously Barcelona would laugh us out of town with that offer. Journos have quoted figures ranging from 45m to 80m and those are all way too much. I'd rather we saved that money and possibly go back for Sancho next year.

His ceiling is higher. He is on Neymar's level, and could've been better if not for the injuries. Completely two footed and makes the game look easy.

For 45m he is absolutely no brainer. We have spent 52m on Fred for context.

It's almost as if Players should never get injured so that Redcafe experts can get behind him. Dembele potential is insane and is 22. There is still lot of time for him to mature and fbulfill his potential.

Even if we sign Sancho, we should look if we can get him on loan with option to buy.

What? Are you sure about that? Demebele was rated highly just like Sancho when he was at BVB. Barca have ruined him, it was the wrong move.

He is correct Sancho has much better stats for Dortmund than Dembele ever did. Dembele was more of a rough diamond at Dortmund. Hadn't developed his decision making to the extent Sancho has.

Dembele was more "exciting" though

I can deal with no Dembele. His injury record is just too much of a risk on a permanent transfer.

If he has such a bad attitude why would he want a permanent move ?

That suggests to me he is looking to make a fresh start

Wait what? I thought he didn't want to leave barcelona.

Loan would be good for Ousmane too. Fresh start with his french mates.

I have seen it a few times but there are more french players at Barcelona than United.

Other than how inept we've been with th whole Sancho deal, it's clear that we never had a backup plan of any worth at all. Going for players like Dembele who were always unlikely has been our alternative. Haphazard stuff.
