Ousmane Dembele

imagine if Dortmund don't only get to keep Sancho, but also get some sweet sell-on money when we panic buy Dembele

If we buy him we are idiots.
We're idiots without buying him. I gave up caring long ago. Maybe he will score goals. We can't seem to score anything but a penalty in the league these days. Ed should use the rest of the Sancho money and buy Upemacano tomorrow.

Has anyone seen the Top Gear episode where they go to a classic car auction? We are James May.

It's definitely a panic deal, but panic deals are better than nothing at this stage. Obvious risks are the fitness and motivation. But the upside is huge. The last thing we want to do is spend big on a player who doesn't want to join IMO, especially someone who will be in the injury room half the time. The quality is undeniable, but we'll see how it pans out if we do sign him.

Why is it a ‘panic deal?’

To be fair, I don't think it can be considered a 'panic buy' per se. He's been reported as our alternative pretty much all summer, it's not like we just pulled his name out of a hat in the last few days.

As a matter of fact, yes. It's probably one of the reasons behind his childishness, it was reported when he was at Rennes that his mother would do everything for her kids. So yes, he has had to do what many of us have learned the hard way at the Uni without our parents around with the small difference that hopefully no one was talking about it on internet forums or in the paper. I would bet that most of us have been out when we shouldn't have, have been 5 to 15 minutes late to classes or work on a few occasions or flat out missed classes because maturity is something that you get with time and experience.

Yeah i m sure Dembele has to commute 1 hour to go to the training and he depends on whether his bus would be on time..

He was our fallback option if we did not sign Sancho. It’s been reported for months. This isn’t a panic buy like Cavani.

Who we wanted last Jan?
Anyway signing a player on loan who is always injured, pretty sure he was only the fallback once we realised we fecked the Sancho deal.
Previously we were linked with Grealish and Chiesa

Bullshit, panic buy. On the day of the last day of transfer window, a player that turned down Liverpool and Juve wants to come. Nonsense reactionary move, let's not dress up this disaster.

Wouldn't be so bad if it was only a loan but starting to feel like we could sign him on a permanent basis.

Read above

The fact that we have gone for him late doesn’t mean it’s panic. Everyone knows who our first choice is, and we’d give that every chance. However, it has been reported for months that he was an alternative option.

He’s not a panic addition.

Honestly, after what I saw today, I'll take him. If he can even give us 10 games at his absolute best he will massively improve the dogs-t I saw today.

Should we have signed our Sancho alternative months ago? What has Liverpool and Juve got to do with anything? Yes, it is reactionary. It is a reaction to not getting Sancho. Just stop fecking moaning.

Absolutely diabolical signing this will be wether it be loan or permanent. The guy keeps injuring the same hamstring month after month. Not questioning his talent it's obvious for everyone to see when he plays but when Barca are trying to offload someone in turn for Memphis it should be a big red flag. Fecking farcial window.

Barcelona fans on Twitter don’t seem thrilled at this idea. The ones replying to the Spanish journalists that is.

If this goes ahead tomorrow, pay close attention to the disparity to which a loan of Dembele will be covered by the press in comparison to the coverage of Spurs’ loan of Bale.

He's not a panic buy, he seems to have clearly been our 2nd choice for awhile. Doesn't make it a great idea though, but he has clearly been planned and thought of for longer than just a last minute desperation signing.

Don't see any harm whatsoever if it's a loan + option to buy? If it works then we've made a great move and he's just 23. If it doesn't then we can move on.

What? I guess Diaz for City was a panic buy because they couldn’t get their first choice. Not sure you understand how transfers work. If you can’t get your first target then you move on to the next. He’s been reported to be our next target for quite a while.

Why should we loan a player and pay big wages for an entire season when he'll play 10 games max across all competitions?

I'm informed that Man Utd is working to secure the signing of Dembele. Barcelona have a representative in Manchester, who is in a meeting with the club at the moment. One should be positive to get this over the line. Solskjaer himself is pushing to get this transfer over the line.

Maybe it should be seen as another sign of stupidity from Barcelona. A Barcelona who have not excelled in the market.

And people need to stop this habit of using one club’s view of a player to shape their own. It’s as if people now just look to see if Bayern and City are also competing for the same player before assigning any value to them or something. Hence this ‘Real don’t want him so we shouldn’t’ logic I see every day.

Yes, Dembele’s been injured a few times. Is he supposed to just retire then? Should he not play football anymore? A loan deal is the exact low-risk scenario a club should consider him to see if he can recover.

If you read, you would see thats not what I said.
Our other options were previously Chiesa (who has signed for Juve) Dembele names only came about late when it turned out Barca wanted him out (after Koeman went there)
The reason I called it a panic is because it seems he was the only available alternative option we could get without paying a large fee. Given his injury record Im willing to be he wasn't on the list of alternatives before the window opened and before Koeman went to Barca

Presume you only mean on a loan too

You’ve even given him a ‘max’ number of games now ffs.

Perhaps the kid should just retire.

I read it, but you were talking rubbish. We have been linked to Dembele far more than we have Chiesa over the summer. Perhaps you should also read, and you’d have seen it. In fact, this is Redcafe, you can read this very thread and see when his name arose. And compare that to talk of Chiesa, who we apparently were chasing up until today from what you say.

Feel most of the people frustrated with this transfer are those that have been blueballed by the Sancho saga for 3 months. If it's a loan then this is a very good move that addresses the RW.

We were linked to Chiesa for about 2 years.

IF he can stay fit yes big IF

We must sign him if we have any hope of top 4. And hopefully we have a fitness plan tailored for him. This will be the biggest signing for me.
My worry is if it's a permanent deal, we will forego on Sancho next year, which would be a terrible move.

EDIT - But in terms of natural talent, he's a potentially amazing fit and a steal if the option/obligation is c.£40m-£55m. For me, he has more natural talent and ability than Sancho, but it's a question of the overall professionalism and injury record, which is scaring me the most. If we got him in as well as Sancho, that would be amazing but this board doesn't have the ambition to pull a move off like that.
