Ousmane Dembele | Fee agreed with Dortmund, medical on Monday, Barca go from MSN to LSD

Barca are in a mess. A bit disappointing really.

I'm not too sure what Neymar did to force a move. But whatever he did, at least he showed up for training and performed in the pre season games.

No, i think Dortmund won't negotiate on the price. It's a matter of principle for them, they don't even care that much about the money

His previous clause was €190M and two clubs had already agreed to trigger it in two previous summers. Thinking on it, it's ridiculous that barcelona thought a €32M increase would have kept the hounds at bay. Hard not to see Neymar Sr forcing Nobita to bend over and lick his ass*le when they agreed the contract last summer

Who triggered the clause previously? Is there good evidence?

You would have to say selling Neymar and then buying Dembele for 60-70% of the fee looks a bad deal as it stands.

Of course, the kid could turn out to be a superstar but the point stands that it looks a bad deal now.

Nobody triggered the clause since neymar didn't leave. United in 2015, PSG in 2016. Confirmed by Neymar Sr and the clubs involved afaik

So it's now Dembele, Coutinho and Costa who have informed their clubs they won't return from holidays. Wow.

It will be very curious to see which of these spoiled cnuts will get their way with their antics.

In Dembele´s case, if he really thinks that his behaviour helps his chances to transfer, he is either really dumb or very poorly advised by his agents. He basically pushed the BVB in a position, where it has no other choice but to make an example out of the situation and don´t move an inch in terms of negotiations.

If Barcelona don´t meet the high demands of Dortmund, the biggest loser out of this could be very well Dembele himself. His role as space creating midfielder is filled out extremely well by Christian Pulisic so far and if he does not make a big case for himself until Marco Reus returns, he will find himself outside the starting formations very quickly.

No matter what, I doubt Dembele will find the setup he enjoyed and profited from if he returns. He is undoubtly a fantastic football player, but also had players around him dedicated to enhance his strengths and cover up his weaknesses.

It's true, his behaviour makes it almost impossible for BVB to give in. Because it would set a dangerous example -you want out while still having 4 years of contract and the club doesn't actually want or need to sell you? Throw a tantrum, don't show up for work anymore and you get your way...

For a club like Dortmund, which constantly has to navigate around the upward-pull of rich clubs affecting their up and coming top players, this would be deadly.

Anyway, they've named their price pretty much publicly, if Barca doesn't pay it Dembélé can complain to them.

As for your second point, I don't see it. I think if Dembélé stays and does the whole apology thing, he'll back in the team. He's too good a player to be benched at BVB, or pretty much anywhere.

Is he? In our new more pressing orientated and higher positioned system under Bosz I don´t see Dembele in the CM. Bosz clearly favours more solid midfielders there in terms of passing (both selection and accuracy) and pressure resistance. Dembele´s style which is centered around his dribblings and key passes is far too aggressive there as it would invite counters too much. That leaves the two wide positions.

One is currently occupied by Pulisic and while he is the less spectacular player, he is superior in terms of decision making and pressing and also more productive IMO.

The other one belongs under normal circumstances to Marco Reus, who is still our individual strongest player. It will of course depend on how he will bounce back from his injury but normally he recovers form very quickly and if the choice will be between a fit and inform Reus and Dembele, I already know the answer.

So, yes, I can see scenarios when Dembele finds himself on the bench. As much of the hype around him is justified, it is also underestimated how much Tuchel build his team around Dembeles strengths last season.

Yes, he is. Of course he is.

I understand that you are now already in the love-affair-post-breakup state with Dembélé and therefore enumerating reasons why you're fine, even better off, without him
That's natural for a BVB fan, with the way he's behaving and how forceful he wants out now. I would think, say and feel the same, and we can agree to disagree.

But I don't think we can not forget why Barca want him so bad in the first place - he's an exceptional attacking talent with spectacular ability and end product, period.

Reus cannot be regarded as full team member at this point. He injures himself everytime he has contact with either the pitch or an opposition player.

I understand why negotiating with Liverpool is difficult. But Dortmund have named their price. It´s a virtual release clause. They can pay it or not. I don´t know, why they are not just moving on, if they are not willing to pay it. Dortmund won´t change their position. Also that little genius Dembele should ask himself, why he´s mad at Dortmund. They are not saying, he can´t go. He should complain to Barcelona or pay the transfer fee difference himself, since it is his life long dream to play for Barcelona.

Barcelona is quickly losing all the sympathy it might have had as a result of PSG snatching Neymar by tapping up all these players.

If you can live without €80m or so you would keep from €110m fee, I would say it'd make perfect sense for you to make an example out of him.

Watzke is part of a Sky talk right now:

-"we won't negotiate" though he can leave if they pay what he wants
-they can't back down because it would set a terrible example for the future, which would come back to haunt them sooner or later
-fired some shots against Barca - something along the lines of "two weeks ago I thought Barca is a great and respectable club..", said he can't imagine a 20 yo lad like Dembele would go on strike on his own
-technically Dembele is not on strike anymore, though he is still suspended
-played down the possible friction between Dembele and the rest of the squad, the he's just a kid, he'll come around angle..

Too bad there is no proof that Barca is behind all of this. Like Watze said, I've lost all respect for Barca.
I'm sure he has talked to Klopp about it as well and realised that they have done the same to him with Coutinho.

He has a contract till 2021. He cant be on too much money.. about 5m/year tops.

Dortmund let Lewandowski leave on a free to make a point.. Dembele's value wont drop that drastically in Jan or next summer.. If Barca are being stingy, I can easily see Dortmund refusing to sell and let Dembele sit a year out (they probably wont page his wages either if he refuses to train/play for them).
They can always get ~100m for him.

Good for them.

He just said that Dembele's agents didn't play two faced game.

Watze has said today that letting him sit in the stands isn't an option. He will have to apologize and then he will be reintegrated in the squad.

They had the meeting with Barca on a Thursday (where the differences have been huge) and on Friday Dembele went on strike..go figure yourself Watzke said..he cant say it more clear, as its impossible to prove, but of course its obvious and everybody knows it clearly Barca behind it with their usual tirty tactics.

I applaud Watzke and everything happened as expected so far...

Watzke "I see the chances of a transfer (of Dembele) happening below 50%" "we will contact our friends from Catalonia and tell them a deadline"

I would love for us swoop in and get him. Its clear what his price is and if there's a player that's worth spending absurd money on right now its this guy.

He also said Dembele is obsessed with Barcelona. He wouldn´t do this for any other club. He didn´t want to leave until the Neymar transfer.

Meh. It's amazing how quickly player's 'obsessions' can change when the right incentives are placed in front of them. Barca have the benefit of the last decade of their history as a selling point, but history changes. No world class talents want to sign for Preston because of their 19th century league titles. If United out-muscle Barcelona completely, Dembele will know who the Daddy is, and where he should play if he wants to win things.

I can't think of a more perfect footballer for Manchester United.

For a 20 year old the last decade is his full conscious life.

Considering Seri is probably done, i think Barcelona will pay the asking price in the end. 150M is an absurd amount of money, but i feel they are better off spending it on Dembele than on Coutinho.

I don't get this "oh look that 20 year old is showing himself as a disloyal moron? Quick! Lets make him our record signing by a mile and break up our wage structure for him!!" mentality that some display in threads like this.

Yeah, so Barcelona aren't Preston. They're the most successful club in recent memory and give their style of play, Messi etc. there are kids like dembele who dream of playing for them. He's the perfect right wing signing for me and I've felt this for a good while. But it's just wishful thinking to think that a player who has reportedly always wanted to play for Barcelona is suddenly going to want anything other than a move to them when they re trying to sign him.

 What was all that posturing about then!? Strange series of events.

Think if we go back to the first reports etc., Barca wanted to close it all up in 100, with 80 upwards + 20 in some bonuses and other shit, depending on the reports. Now it will be ~130 overall.

His atttiude is grade A cuntbag material, he'll fit in well at Barcelona.
Sure look like that now with series of his transfer all revolved around him acting up.Talent he sure has but it is poisonous attitude to have. You don't know when he would turn back to bite the hand that feed him.

It was his dream club. Yes he acted unprofessionally. But the chance to go to his dream club and upturn their fortunes is worth it for him to act this way.
Unfortunately for us it means another world class player of the market.
He will fit in well due to his ability.

One of the worst/ most unprofessional acting up to force a high profile transfer ever, and it's not the first time this gets messy with transfer dealings.

Good luck for Barcelona to keep him in the future. There is no telling he would remain at the dream club when he starts to get bored again.
