But.....

Liverpool lost their main players at key moments last season so will be buying more than adequate replacements.

City have just bought half the GDP's worth of Africa (yes the continent). All of them huge upgrades.

Chelsea are in second season settled mode under Conte. As Current champions.

Spurs are keeping every single talented player from last season, barring Walker, and will strengthen key squad areas.

Utd are buying a Chelsea reject, a Madrid reject and someone that sounds like an expensive chocolate. You've had more impressive windows (and failed). Not saying you can't finish above us, for example, but anything more is fanciful.
We've also bought Ronaldo, Mbappe, Fabinho, Naingollan, Varane and Mendy. I think we'll be fine.

Same mistakes from United. Even a half blind shit scout would tell you this kid was going to be one of the best at Rennes. Same shit, different player.

Who was a back-up. He's not a reject though: more of a reserve.

He's definitely not a reject. They'd rather he stayed, he's the one pushing for a move.

Loads of clubs were in for him. He chose Dortmund.

Short of putting a gun to his head to sign the contract, almost all top clubs worth their salt did what they could. He's a smart guy, seems to want Barca from the off but chose Dortmund as the perfect stepping stone.

Could be worse, could have gone to Liverpool

Isn't that Salah?

Silvestre said we were in for him. He chose Dortmund.
Don't think the managerial situation would have helped either.

Ah I see. Transfermarkt are known to be generous in the assists department.

Contrary to Opta/whoscored, I think transfermarkt count being fouled for a pen that is converted, as well as shots that are parried with someone scoring from the deflection, as assists. Which can be arguable tbh. Maybe other stuff too.

Goes to show even basic stats are not straightforward numbers, methodology is debatable, and this is not even getting into arguing what constitutes a won challenge etc.

I've seen £79 million bandied about a lot consistently for a good few weeks as the cost to prise Dembele away from Dortmund and from what I've seen of him I don't think we'd sell for a loss if we sold him on later down the line.

It's known he loves Barca but right now they're not in a position to buy him as they've clearly prioritised right back, centre back, central midfield and Deulofeu for where they desperately want to strengthen and I've seen in a lot of places the majority of their budget is for Bellerin and either Verratti or Saul Niguez.

I think it's very clear right wing/forward is a priority position to strengthen as neither Mkhitaryan or Mata are at their best there whilst Lingard and Rashford (if he plays wide) are better from the left whilst Martial is also there on the left so unless it's an upgrade like Alexis Sanchez there's zero point in a left winger/forward.

Reality is Dortmund won't want to sell BUT they ARE a selling club IF the price is right and they could probably stretch us to £80-£85 million which would allow them to strengthen their entire squad and push Bayern a lot harder than last season, Dortmund are amazing at quietly unearthing great players then selling them on and I think they'd have a plan in place in the event Dembele was sold because they're very efficient.

A front 3 or 4 made up of Dembele, Morata, Mkhitaryan, Rashford, Mata and Martial with Lingard and (sigh) Rooney as final options is a lot more varied and balanced than last season and I believe we'd be better going forward and converting chances into goals with this potential group than last season too.

Dembele would allow Mkhitaryan and Mata to play more games as a 10 when we play 4-2-3-1 and give us natural balance, pace and width and the space created through the middle from having natural wide players could allow Pogba to rampage through midfield especially with a new out and out defensive midfielder signed to release the shackles.

You guys always with that Dortmund are a selling club BS totally ignoring they have never sold an important player, when they had the power to keep him. United, Real, Bayern & Co. have received countless of not-for-sale-answers and the only player they have sold were players with clauses or with just 1 year of contract left. They wont sell its that simple.

I'm pretty sure every big club were scouting him and interested. Dortmund could give him guaranteed game time and away from the worldwide media spotlight that overanalyzes every move he makes. Also, I heard Rennes owners is a shareholder for Dortmund or something along those lines.

As we obviously are in for a winger (Perisic) this summer, why don't we just break the fecking bank for Dembélé? He would probably cost the same as Pogba but feck it. Certain players is so talented that it's inevitable that they fail and imo Dembélé is one of the. If we don't go for him now Real Madrid or Barcelona will snatch him within a year and he'll win everything with them, including Ballon d'Or. And when he's 29 and downhill we'll buy him for £180m or something like that.

Why pay half the fee for a player that is not even half as good when we obviously got the money to buy the best winger in the world for years to come? Ed, bin that list Mourinho sent you and show some drive and decisiveness! I promise you Dembélé will sell more shirts than Perisic! And perhaps even more than the great Memphis Depay did!

Or even run down a player's contract like Lewandowski. Agree with you.

So if we slapped a 100m bid in for Dembele today, Dortmund wouldn't be tempted based on the fact they don't have to sell yet? I doubt Juve were actively looking to sell Pogba until we offered £90m for him. I suspect a serious bid would test Dortmund's resolve. You may still be right but I'd still like us to test that theory if it's all the same....;)

Juventus only sold Pogba because he wanted to leave

Don't worry about Barcelona, he won't go there and they won't buy him.

1. Too expensive.
2. He is the closest thing to Messi in world football these days, down to positioning on the field.

If Inter for holding out for 50 mil for Perisic, it'll make sense to add another 30 mil and just go for this guy instead. He'd be the perfect signing for us

This cattle market notion of "let's just splash out sum x and he'll be ours" always makes me chuckle.

Obviously we should be in for him. He's an incredibly talented footballer who would get the OT crowd off their seats.

However the player also has to want to come to us. It's possible that he's aware of interest from better teams than us like Barcelona or Bayern and doesn't fancy a move to a huge club that hasn't even finished in the top 4 of the premier league with regularity of late. Moving to us now would certainly make the move to the other big boys harder or at least delay it.

Perfect signing for a SAF Utd, Perisic is the perfect signing for a Jose Utd because he's a defensive winger.

I don't know how Dortmund managed to convince him but boy do they have a goldmine with Dembele.

If he wanted to come here, he'd be here. The lack of activity I'm sure isn't because of us.

His eyes are on Barca clearly so he will bide his time at Dortmund until that point.

But where will he fit in at Barca. One of Neymar and Messi has to either leave or play a different position to accommodate him. Messi might eventually move to midfield but it's too soon for that.

That's fair enough. I hear Gerard Deulofeu is his hero.

He also said he always plays as Man United on FIFA so maybe, just maybe, he an affection for us too!

Puma, which also sponsors Dortmund. There has been a lot of behind-the-scenes work at Puma to make this deal happen so that Dembele would not be going anywhere else besides Dortmund where he was guaranteed play time to develop, which he went above and beyond in doing his first season in Germany. To this day, there are still legal issues to resolve around the matter between his soon-to-be-ex agent and his actual ex agent. It's also been cited as a reason why Dembele would leave Dortmund this summer, so that the fee recouped from the transfer can be used to settle any legal issues off the shady transfer from Rennes.

If, somehow, Manchester United put in an offer too good to refuse and got Ousmane Dembele, and managed to develop him mentally more than anything, then they have a top 5 player in the world within three years. You don't hear much and maybe that means nothing at all, but I feel like if there's any hint that there's a chance (and there is), then I would go all out, balls to the wall, jesus take the wheel-mode to get this guy here AT ANY PRICE. He, alone, would improve the team tremendously and shift players to play in more suitable positions, and what's best is he can cover both wings effectively as he is a true ambidextrous player.

So Barca should do the smart thing. Sell Messi to us and buy the new Messi :)

There's nothing like that in football. I don't know from whom this term comes to life tbh.
It's because he seems to have good work rate. Can't have that. We need someone who has a reputation in attack only.

We havent bought anyone outside of Lindelof yet. You have bought two Chelsea rejects so calm your tits. Also the Mighty Reds and Herr Klopp have to contend with Europe this season. Why do you lot always act the billy big bollocks?
