Our rival's squads next year - Man City

What's the point in going for something bigger if you can't even fill what's infront of you?

Yeah I thought that, just never heard of that analogy before. Thought you just made it up on the spot

They're not as good as a lot of people are making them out to be.

They are. They lost, but it had nothing to do with lacking quality. They played really well, turned the screw as well as can be done. It was just one of those days. And West ham also had the quality to see to that.

Still, today was no reason to downgrade their title credentials.

Completely agree. They were very good without converting their chances. One of those days. If anything city fans should be pleased with their performance. 9/10 they win this.

KDB is a quality player, has everythig in his locker room. His crossing, shooting and vision are impressive. Otamendi looked also very good today, very dangerous from corners, and his passing from the back is definately something that stood out for me. Looks miles better than Mangala to me, without having any time to adapt. Reads the game much better and covered a few times for him today. Sterling looks meh so far, i am not impressed, but i rate him actually. Aguero is out of form, Navas is a joke. Kolarov still cant defend, Sagna looks decent, Yaya and Fernandinho look good this season too.

Having said that, they played really well today and put so much pressure on West Ham at times, like no team is capable of in the league at the moment. With Silva coming in for Navas, they will strenthen further. I still think they will walk the league, with a few blips here and there. They have the best offensive quality of all teams and have indivually good defenders, although they dont defend well as a unit. But their firepower infront of them is just lethal.

I would have been happy to lose 3-0 to West Ham if we'd put in half as decent a performance as City did today.

Teams that seem to have the greatest success in the premier league have the best spine, and since 2011 the core of that city team has been the best in the league without a shadow of a doubt. when Hart/Kompany/zabaleta/Yaya/Silva/Aguero are firing they play breathtaking football. You supplement that core with players like fernandinho, De bryne, sterling, nasri, even players like milner when he was there they are almost impossible to stop.

To move forward as a club though, they seriously need to do compete in europe, they are an absolute joke in the champions league, and no matter how much success they find with this squad of players domestically, in time it will be looked upon as a failure that they didnt do better in europe. Does anyone else think they need somebody like Schweinsteiger? a been there done it experienced head to guide them through champions league games? their squad is full of leaders and quality but none of them have a bounty of european experience do they?

It is not about experience. Their movement as a team against the ball isn´t particularly impressive. They need to be incredibly dominant or their defence is getting exposed. Their best defence is to push the opposition back into their half. They improved individually but failed to solve their underlying problems. It will cost them again this season in the CL.

Toure has won it.

Toure/Fernandinho/Fernando/Delph. That's not a great MF.

They'll be relying on their front 4 to win them most games, which they will, but when they're not on it, team can get through that MF and at their defence.

Yup. As I said, not a great midfield but an attack like that wins you most games anyways as the midfield is more than capable of playing a good supporting act.

It's not, it's a bunch of individuals who can make the difference on their own without actually lifting the players around them to a higher level. That's not what I call a leader.

Yesterday's result was quite an anomaly. They battered West Ham
That was like our result against PSV then where we had more than enough chances to put them to the sword but did not take it.these things happen in football but I still think they have the strongest attack in the league by a country mile.

Oh yes, they do.

Fair, anybody else in their 25 man squad come close though? or even just out of the group stages on the regular before they moved to city?

Atleti had barely anyone either when they marched to the final.

Their also quite light at CF. Aguero, Bony and then that kid who scored last week.

Their side still has holes in it, they should have enough to still win the league this season but it won't be as simple as has been made out in the first few weeks of this season.

People always get over excited when a team goes on a good run. After the first three games, the media was already bringing up the idea of City going the season unbeaten. No long term perspective.

Yup, same with Chelsea going unbeaten last season.

They shouldn't of won v Palace, lost v a struggling Juve at home and lost v West Ham at home. That's not a great testimony to how great they are.
Just because Chelsea were the nailed on winners last year has coloured posters perceptions on City. They assume they are as far ahead of the rest as chelsea were so history would repeat itself.
Their lack of consistent goal scorers minus Aguero is staggering to me. Would you trust Sterling with a one on one? Navas? Will Silva or De Bruyne improve on their 1 in 5 record or will having those two in the same side actually make their goal scoring records worse?
They can't rely on an 18 yo coming off the bench or. Kompany scoring from 37 corners this year.
An aging Toure is already starting to wane in matches that City doesn't dominate. He only came into his own yesterday when West Ham sat back and lost all ambition to go forward.

The whole City love is a bit strange for a season that is 6 games old
Agreed. I think they'll crumble. Feel they'll struggle to get out of the CL group. And they'll have a bad spell in the league this season. Theyre back line when you get through just aint all that.

And a team that cost £309m yesterday apparently. That's ok though at the moment because the anti-champions agenda is bigger. Once they look like winning, it'll be stories of buying the title, not promoting youth and going against the traditions of the English game again.

They are still the best team in the country but talk of running away with it is nonsense. Even in the seasons they won the league, they had long spells of poor form. I expect us to finish within 10 points of them. 10 might even be too many.

Aguero staying fit is vital for them. Even though Bony is a good backup, he doesn't have the class to fit in seamlessly. The kid is very highly rated but yeah, he isn't going to be a factor.

Who do you see running them close? Or so you see them dropping as many points as the rest of us?

I see them dropping points. I think a tally of 83/84 points will win the league this season.

If I had to bet on it, I'd say City win the league by 5 points.

I still believe that will win the league comfortably mainly due to lack of challengers. Chelsea are already 11 pts behind and will stop drop points in the season, we are too inconsistent away from home to win the league. Arsenal are Arsenal, I imagine they will keep up till Feb/March before drifting away.

They're still favorites ATM. They've played excellently so far and have more matchwinners than anyone. Chelsea too have a few but they're busy doing things unrelated to football.

Then again, City's issue has always been focus. They've generally had the best individuals for awhile now, but end up making tough work of things. With a few things going against them they would have no PL league titles which would have been funny given the talent they have. So that will be their battle, to keep focused and produce consistently what they can.

Chelsea are now 8 behind. Still a big gap, but still one that can be reigned in so early in the season.

Only 8 now, but that's still far away. I agree with you on the whole.

We have some fantastic players but there are still many weaknesses in our squad. As many have said before left back and centre midfield continue to be a problem. Yesterdays defeat was nothing new, we have lost several games in the past we have dominated and it will probably happen again. I believe it cost us the title last year (our results against the relegated teams were disgraceful).

Talk of City winning the league is very premature, we will be there or thereabouts but there are still 4 teams who can win it for me. (United, Chelsea, Arsenal or City) Funnily enough of those 4 it is Arsenal, not Chelsea, who I have the most doubts about.

Can't see anyone but you guys winning it. All the challengers you've mentioned have problem scoring goals. You Gus score for fun.

I'm not sure that's true. We completely dominated West Ham yesterday but could only score 1 goal after we generously allowed them to score twice. We huffed and puffed at Crystal Palace and eventually won with a 90+ min goal. Even in our 2 3-0 wins we were very wasteful in front of goal. The Chelsea game aside Kun is looking blunt and I'm not at all confident of scoring a hatful of goals.

And given that we always give our opposition a fair few chances to score themselves results like yesterday, which also plagued us last season, are almost certain to happen again.

City having the kind of dominance they had yesterday and scoring once will only happen one out of ten times. Aguero will find form, that much is guaranteed. The only think I can see stopping you guys winning it is injuries to big players.
