Our rival's squads next year - Man City

If they sign KDB their squad will be immense and they'll definitely be up there challenging for the title. Their biggest problem would be if Toure and/or Aguero get injured for lengthy spells. I would also add that I don't think Pellegrini is in the upper echelon of managers in the world so he might feck it up as well.

Staggering to think of the money they've spent on CBs in the last 5/6 years when they had Jerome Boateng on their books at one point who now is arguably a top 5 defender.

Did they really need Otamendi? Someone like Reus would have elevated them beyond their current level.

I think Boateng wanted out as he thought that by playing in Germany he would have a greater chance of getting secreted in the german team.

Well, they are having a great window even if they are spending way too much. Especially if they get KDB, more £50+ in the balance.

Their attacking force is amazing when Aguero is fit.

Is there a period they are not having a great window? They always do.

I think we've beat them in the window this year tbh. And I don't think anyone else has done better than us, maybe on par with us at most. Our defence has transformed, our midfield is the strongest in the league defensively, and as for attacking options we lack a certain sharpness/end product, but with depay/mata/januzaj/hererra/young, it's up there with even Manchester City's imo.

What City have is an established connection with Silva/Aguero/Yaya that is possibly the deadliest in the PL right now, whilst also starting to integrate Sterling into the equation. It's frightening the movements they make between them, and it's something hopefully our forward line can start to produce at some point this season.

Kompany/Demichelis I thought was a good combination at the back, and Mangala has started to root himself a bit now. I dont think they needed otamendi.

A lot of sense in this post.

They're looking better than ever so far this season :(

Upcoming fixtures are Watford, Palace, West Ham, Spurs, Newcastle and Bournemouth before they face us at Old Trafford. City are going to be in flying form by the time they face us.

How can you say that?

Off the ball Yaya Touré can be a bit of a liability, but on the ball playing the final pass I couldn't take any other midfielder in the league (bar Fabregas and Silva) over him. Barely anything between him and Fabregas as the best passer in the league.

It could be a good thing that they won't have any truly testing fixtures before we play them.

What has Basti done to be higher in the pecking order than Toure at the moment? Or even Fernandinho? They also have 3 cleansheets like United.

Navas?

City are better than I thought. They are very willing to slow things down and just knock it about without sacrificing quality of their cutting edge.

They play possession football how it should be. And their players aren't afraid to dribble with the ball which takes players out the game.

Right now Yaya would be ahead of Schweinsteiger.

I'd take Mata over Navas though.

When at full fitness Basti is a better player imo

They're so far ahead of us its frightening. They're just on a completely different level, and have been ever since Fergie retired.

They're the dominant team in Manchester thesedays, no matter how much people on here will try and pretend like they're not. We might have the history and the size, but on the pitch they overtook us quite a while ago, and the gap just keeps on getting bigger.

Not really the little noisy neighbours anymore I'm afraid.

I'm seriously amazed at the delusion that some have over Toure's ability. He would walk into United's team.

They play much better football aswell unfortunately.

I'm not doubting his ability I just don't think he's better than Basti

Their first XI looks good, but Pellegrini has not attempted any sort of rotation yet. They look good for now of course, but in the longer term there are still some questions which have not been answered.

Because 3 games into the season is when you should be rotating your starting XI.

I'm amazed by the amount of people already coronating them as Champions elect. Yes, they're very good at the moment but can we at least wait until winter sets in before considering them as potential champions?

I don't think the gap is getting bigger since we've been working on that gap to get smaller and we added quality to a squad which needed new players since Fergie retired.

City look better then ever right now, we look slightly more solid then last season, but thats about it.

We've added good players, but thats only half the battle.

City looks better yes but anything can happen. I think it's too early to call them champions elect and all that. They will probably be above as but as you said we got good players which is half the battle. But better half the battle than give up the battle. :)

I didnt say that it was, simply that if and when injuries start to hit them, and fitness dwindles with the games coming thick and fast around christmas, their squad will be tested.

Personally I think City have some great youth prospects that Pellegrini has deigned not to use at all yet.

Chelsea don't have the deepest squad either. If Hazard and Matic get injured they're just as screwed.
