OT EVACUATED | Device signed as having been recovered, could NOT be detected by sniffer dogs

I don't know if this is a stupid question.. But if somebody was going to detonate the bomb, why didn't they just do it as soon as the stadium started to be evacuated?

Obviously, I'm very very glad that it was found and nobody was hurt. But I just don't understand?

Unless the culprit was waiting for everyone to get inside and then hoping to get out and away before detonating.

Absolutely terrifying. Somebody went to a football match today with the intention of killing thousands of innocent people.

To quote Call of Duty, "EMP online" I guess? Phone signals was probably completely shut down.

Can't we just play the game behind closed doors tomorrow? Either that or put it down as a 0-0 draw and have done with it. It seems pretty redundant to play it now.

The order of events for me was I entered the stadium about 2:25, normal security checks and pat-downs. Climbed the mountain of stairs to the back of Tier 3 towards the Stretford End, after a couple of minutes of being sat down an announcement was made for anyone in the North West part of the stadium to leave immediatley, the security in our area told us to remain and people continued to take their seats, then a few minutes later they announced operation code red to all secuirty in the stadium and asked everyone to leave (I think the East Stand and the away fans were kept in though). It was all very calm and people slowly made their way down the stairs, I heard one security guard tell someone it must either be a device found or threat phoned in. Once out of the stadium it was very slow and crowded but still calm as they announced kick off was delayed and people to make their way to the car parks, eventually got back to our car turned the radio on and heard it was just tweeted by Bournemouth the game was cancelled. There were a few people when coming down the stairs and in the crowds who were nervous/anxious but no one really in a panic. I think it was handled well.

Best thing is the lack of any real activity outside of Old Trafford. Seems like it was an isolated threat.

Has it even been confirmed that it was a bomb?

am thinking there must be a good possibility of some camera official or otherwise having taken a picture of someone placing this?

Dunno but they need more cameras including in the toilets if not.

Controlled explosion was carried out so must have been an explosive of some kind.
This is pure speculation, if it were obvious then the media woudl have reported it so. We still don't know what it was, and the latest news was that the controlled explosion went through.

Really? Pretty sure controlled explosions are pretty standard with suspicious devices rather than only when there's explosives.

If the controlled explosion happened (confirmed by police) then there obvious was an explosive? Or is that wrong? Not sure.

There were reports of wifi and 3G being turned off in the stadium. They probably shut down the cell towers to prevent a detonation signal going through as soon as they got suspicious

That sounds quite worrying, as I thought Sky said it "won't" be this week...

if they were even for a second considering tomorrow, then midweek might be likely?

Not what you want before an FA cup final.

So the controlled demo is already done? There really was a bomb? Fecking hell.

It's hard to pin point exactly where all this madness began but you can't help but despair at the state of the world nowadays.

Seriously though.. if this is midweek, then we have to play the kids... which might make this game a lot more fun that it was going to be...

Pereira might finally get a game

Playing it properly, means if you can't make it, you can't make it, so you do your money.
Not playing it, means they'd have to refund 76,000 tickets!

My thoughts exactly. Since the events of Paris, this was a huge fear and something has actually happened here now...it's very real.

Now luckily, no one innocent has suffered today but the worry of this happening again is massive.

I was very angry when I was searched so thoroughly when I attended the Europa League game against Liverpool, but you know what, search everyone like that. They quizzed me because I had an overcoat over a suit (went straight from work), and I became slightly confrontational because I was running late as it was, and it was freezing cold that night. But in hindsight, this has to be the norm.
