Osimhen v Kane

If Napoli win the league I imagine Osimhen would be about double what Kane would be.

Then he would need a year to get used to the PL. That's an awful lot of money for an untested player.

Having to deal with either Spurs or Napoli

All the fecking best

if we can get Kane next summer, then he is perfect for us, but I doubt Levy will allow it.

It's either sell Kane in the summer or he effectively goes for free at the end of next season.

If Levy allows Kane to leave for free he will be in for dogs abuse from the Spurs lot.

depends on the price tage. Kane has 1 yr left in his contract summer so he is pretty much gettable than Osimhen plus tottenham would probably out of UCL next season which will motivate Kane to leave.
before RvP was signed, some of the cafe expressed doubt about his injury history and his age and He turned out one (imho he is the best) of the greatest signing of the past decade.
Napoli wanted to cash-in. The reason they didn't because Napoli having real shot at winning titles. Osimhen definitely will leave as long as offer is right.
It's just Italian league but with current form, he's the real +100m player not some overhyped one season wonder.

Isn’t his first touch shit? We all pretended that didn’t bother us when we signed Lukaku, only for it to massively get on our collective tits.

Kane only if the price is right, otherwise Osimhen. The former is still my number one choice.

They seem to be the best 2 options for a proper striker. Let`s face it, both are going to command a big fee and there is no way round that.
Both have advantages and disadvantages to them but the main one`s I can see are age and Premier league experience
Kane would almost guarantee 20 goals a season but maybe only for 2-3 yrs depending on his fitness/injuries
Osimhen could potentially get that amount but is not proven in the prem, so there is an element of risk.
I really wouldn`t mind either to be honest

Let's clear up this injury/fitness crap about Kane - he's missed 5 PL games in 2.5 years

I meant more in a few yrs time when he is 31+
If he can do what he has each season for the next 3-4 years (which is very likely) then he is worth it in my opinion.

Yes. Because he never has even one wonder season.

Regarding Osimhen people are quick to forget how Rom was smashing it for Inter under Conte and looking like one of the best in Italy. When he came back to the prem instantly was shyte again!!

There is absolutely nothing that suggests this guy is worth the price although in this modern era 100m is the standard rubbish being thrown around at everyone, I guess if Darwin cost so much why can't this guy!!

Sure, there's risk when anyone comes from a different league. But you could equally point to other players who didn't struggle to make that transition, like Salah for example.

Also, Osimhen at a younger age has been scoring at a rate that is a level above what Lukaku managed:

He's not. He's scoring at a clear level above them.

Non penalty goals per 90 in their Serie A seasons (including current seasons).

Lukaku: 0.51, 0.56, 0.26
Tammy: 0.41, 0.31
Osimhen: 0.57, 0.64, 0.83

In other words Osimhen's worst season in Serie A is better than any of Lukaku or Abraham's in terms of goal rate. And we see the same same thing when we look at their underlying stats.

Lukaku: 0.43, 0.57, 0.33
Tammy: 0.49, 0.55
Osimhen: 0.61, 0.62, 0.59

Other than having played in the same league, these are not comparable players.

And bearing in mind, the player you're using as a yardstick for someone who didn't hack it in the PL once had a 25 goal PL season himself.

Yeah two of the toughest clubs to get players out of full stop, then when you are talking strikers it's near impossible

Neither.

Kane is 47 and Oshimen is incredibly inconsistent technically.

Sign Lautaro Martinez and keep Weghorst as backup/another option if he does well.

We have the best Martinez around, we don't want this one!

I like Lautaro a lot from what I've seen. Typically he would be around 4th or 5th on my list but there just aren't that many strikers out there.

I think the obsession with false 9s around 2009 to 2012 has created a real dearth in strikers. He would be at the top for me when considering age and ability.

The Lukaku comparisons for Osimhen couldn't be any lazier. Calling his first touch shite is also an exaggeration, it's by no means the cleanest first touch but its not an abomination the way it is for Lukaku. Haaland doesn't even have the best first touch when trying to feed off him.

I've said he's like Vardy and another comparison that's made sense is Nunez with a better first touch. In any case its obvious that he's a player that can contribute to a team even if he doesn't score. Lukaku is a liabilty unless he scores and even that isn't a guarantee.

My biggest problem with Osimhen is his price. He is in no way a £100m player but he could be a very good striker for us, I just worry about the pressure of such a price tag. Most £100m signings have flopped or failed to live up to expectations.

Yeah his price is definitely the biggest issue, also feel like we need someone who watches him regularly to confirm if his first touch is as bad as some suggest.

ETH knows what he wants and has an idea what kind of striker he wants. I leave it to ETH to decide. Osimhen and Kane are two different kind of strikers, it depends on what kind of striker ETH wants for his system in the future.

Yeah like you say they are both different types of strikers and depends what Erik wants. Looks to me like Kane could be got for around £70m and could slot in whereas Osimhen we are looking at well over £100m but could take time to adapt

Osimhen because of his age.

But the scouting department will know better, I'd take any honestly.

I do feel ETH would turn Osimhen into a complete monster in front of goal though, him Rashford, Antony, Garnacho will be hard to play against.

Kane would be great at around 60 to 70 million. Anything above that will be far too much, because I can only see him contributing meaningfully for the next 4 years, at max.

Osimhen will also cost a lot and will need time to adapt. 100 million is a huge amount and should be reserved for a sure thing but who even knows anymore. Would still prefer him owing to him having a higher potential and more willing to adapt perhaps

I think Goncalo Ramos is the middle ground between both of them.

It's either sell Kane in the summer or he effectively goes for free at the end of next season.

If Levy allows Kane to leave for free he will be in for dogs abuse from the Spurs lot.

I'm not sure it's that black and white. If Kane doesn't have suitors in for him this summer - assuming Spurs don't slap on an insane fee - I could see him just accepting a one-club career at Spurs.

I think he's all but missed his opportunity to be the main striker for a regular trophy winning/title challenging side.

Neither Kane nor Osimhen are optimal targets (or even a tier below, like 26 year old Lewandowski on a free transfer :p); but at the end of the day, the realities of the market dictate your selection, and between the two, I prefer the former (by a slight margin, not some sort of landslide). He's not a prolific dribbler or particularly dynamic (especially at this stage of his career) and cannot press all the livelong day, but he meets most of the other criterion of center forward play — fundamentally quite sound and always a threat in or around the opposition's box, some of the most perceptive link-up play in contemporary football, tactically astute with a rounded vision, and so forth. Also massively experienced and still producing at a high level, with 44 goals and 13 assists at club level in the last 1½ seasons. We shouldn't compulsorily build for the future! The time to compete and win is now, when we have a decent set of established performers — and a good head coach to steer the ship. If Kane joins United, you can bet that he will be on a mission to hasten the development of the project and immediately vie for major honors, and his pedigree in English football makes him a relatively safe and impactful signing with the short term in mind.

That being said, it would be foolhardy to abandon future projections; things can change very quickly in football, and you need to be one step ahead in terms of formulating and laying the groundwork for future success. With the signing of a veteran like Kane, there will be a need to hedge our bets and search high and wide for an additional center forward, if not this summer then maybe with an eye on the 2023 or 2024 mercatos. He's clearly no spring chicken and will lose whatever explosiveness he has left in the coming years, and we don't wanna get caught on the wrong foot. There are a few talented (and moldable) options out there, who might be a year or two (or more, what do I know?) removed from consistent top level football: Marcos Leonardo at Santos (high-octane style with good link-up play), Youssoufa Moukoko at Dortmund (though he has recently extended his contract and won't be particularly cheap), Evan Ferguson at Brighton (will be veeeery expensive, in all likelihood), Rasmus Højlund at Atalanta (giving a good account of his abilities in Italy), et cetera — one of 'em could be the long term solution. On a related note, we should also be on the hunt for young defensive midfielders who can deputize for our current midfield catalyst Casemiro (and maybe succeed him in a few years, as a proper functional and stylistic (and hopefully, qualitative) fit).

Harry Kane for now. He is the striker and Eriksen replacement if needs to be. Osimhen can be added later if we find a proper owner/ sugar daddy.

Exactly. This is the time to buy the future Casemiro replacement. If we buy Kane, we should also buy a young promising striker.

Got anyone in mind for Casa replacement and promising young striker just out of interest

Rasmus Højlund type striker but from Sturm Graz, not Atalanta who will squeeze us.

Again Caicedo type from Ecuador for Casemiro replacement.

We have to try and get these cheaper youngsters, who we also will need to develop. Unlike what we've done with Pellestri.

Still never get why we didn't get Haaland from Molde,we'll didn't help Jose wasn't keen on signing young players.

Maybe he thought they had the future already with Greenwood, Jose was never anywhere long enough to have an interest in buying for the future, though he did buy Dalot

Such a strange decision because he's an unusual type striker built like Drogba who he loved. Sad to say but Greenwood has gone exactly the same way as Morrison which is such a waste of talent

Neither. Kane is on the wrong end of 30 and has had a lot of injuries. Osimhen will cost stupid money, which I don't personally think he can live up to.
