Omar Berrada: Manchester United aiming to win the title by 2028

We would have been there now if the club had emphasized continuity and the long-term from summer 2020 onwards. That means they had:
  1. Droped short-term solutions such as Ronaldo, Varane, Eriksen, Casemiro
  2. McKenna and Carrick were still at the club
  3. along with an outstanding sporting director.
  4. clear structure with good distribution of roles and responsibilities (adm).

Arsenal bounced from 8th to 2nd in a relatively short space of time, Chelsea 12th to where they are now.

Starting from Arteta's first full season they finished 8th, 8th and 5th before then finishing 2nd. Not sure most posters would consider three full seasons outside the top four as a particularly quick turnaround.

And even with that, it will take them at least three title challenges to actually win the title and that's only if they win it this season. If we're using them as the benchmark, we have a long way to go.

To be fair, Chelsea were mired in 14th fairly late on last season and looked like a disaster area of a club and yet less than 12 months later people are talking up their title chances, at least they were until yesterdays result. 2028 is far enough off that most of the starting 11 by then will be new players and if RA is what we hope he is then he should certainly be challenging by no later than the 2026/27 season. That gives him a mulligan on this season and time to develop over the following season along with a few windows to reshape the squad before challenging.

I started from here, because they were still a joke at that point. I would say that going from out of Europe to challenging for the title in two seasons to be a quick turnaround but - more importantly - to be in line with the topic that is being discussed here (ie; in this thread). We're soon to be in 2025. The thread is about 2028. That's 3 years, which many are claiming would be too quick a turnaround for us. I will try explaining this again later if necessary, but I've been travelling all day and I'm tired.

Precisely. After 5 seasons in charge what has he won? At this rate they could be the new spurs.

And for all the plaudits Liverpool got under Klopp, they only managed to win the league once in his time there despite multiple years as one of Europe's top sides.

In other words not only does it take multiple years to get back into contention for the league, it can also take multiple years of challenging before you actually win.

That's conveniently ignoring a certain factor of why they only won once.

I'm glad they didn't but they should have, city are not a legitimate club.

It’s good to hear that the team has bold ambitions. This club should be aiming to be back in contention for a title by 2028. It will require significant investment in the playing squad and hitting transfers out the park. However, a quick turnaround like Chelsea will be difficult since they’ve closed (or are trying to close) the loopholes they used to spend as much money as they did. So we might need to patient and accept a slower rebuild more akin to Arsenal under Arteta. The only issue with that is do our owners and fan base have the patience for it? And do we have the decision makers in place to make the right transfers to build the team? Time will tell.

Things can change quickly in football, there’s countless examples of weirder things happening than our carcass of a club winning the title 3 years down the line.

Look at United under Fergie. Finished 13th in 1990, 6th the year after, then 2nd and finally 1st. City lost 8-1 to Middlesbrough and were champions 4 years after. Liverpool finished 8th and won the champions league just 2 years later.

I don’t have a problem in being patient, my problem comes in yet another rebuild due to the incompetence of those that went before. We’re in a constant state of transition, and this time is going to be even harder as PSR/FFP is real and we may have used up all our chances. We need to get it right this time, and be smart about it.
