We got three golds in it last time ;) Two Kelly Holmes and our 4x100 relay team (or was it the 4x400?).

Won't get any this time though.

Yeah I know we got three golds last time but like you say unlikely to get any this time. Although Phillips Idowu is a our best shot.

Gold number eight for GREAT Britain:

Gold number eight is delightfully dished up by a jubilant Yngling team, with Ayton and Webb adding another shiny piece of precious medal to add to their endeavors from Athens four years ago, alongside 21-year-old Pippa Wilson. Their exploits also sees Great Britain surge into fifth in the medals table.

and guarenteed a 12th in one of the mens track cycling events

and pretty much guarenteed about 3 more in track cycling

Its not actually guaranteed yet but I agree its very likely.

There's also Idowu and we have a chance of getting another in the rowing. Price has a chance of getting one in the boxing too.

18 gold medals could see us finish third in the medal table.

That is an awesome sight. Only the British and Chinese are doing better than expected.

it should be noted that we have 200 and something people at the game and USA has about 600

Brilliant weekend for team GB.

Right then how many golds are we going to need to hang onto third place in the medals table?

The Russians took third place in 2004 with 27 gold medals. The Russians haven't had a great olympics so far but a lot of their best events (Athletics, Wrestling and Boxing) take place in the second week. I think 19 or 20 golds would be enough to claim third place, so we need another eight or nine golds.

These for me are our best chances of gold in the last week of the games (in order of most likely):

Track cycling - Men's team pursuit - Wiggins and co
Track cycling - Men's sprint - Chris Hoy
Track cycling - Women's sprint - Victoria Pendleton
Track cycling - Men's Madison - Wiggins and Cavendish
Women's BMX - Shanaze Reade
Sailing - Paul Goodison
Canoeing - Tim Brabants
Men's triple jump - Phillips Idowu
Boxing super heavyweight - David Price

Ouside Chances

Sailing - Nick Dempsey
Track cycling - Women's points race - Rebecca Romero

Any more?

Well GB only had 9 in Athens i believe, so very well done. Hopefully get a few more in track, and cement that CL qualification... err i mean 3rd spot.
