Olympic Medal Table watch

Women's beach volleyball, arent there individual gymnast medals per event, although that would probably be a wash with China

The volleyball is only two medals though. You're right about the gymnastics, this will be a crucial battleground over the next few days with 12 golds available. I still think the Jamaican sprinters will be your undoing in the end.

Yanks can't complain about Chinese winning medals in random sports when most of their medals have come from unnecessary variations of swimming.

Its only 12 more gold medals and I think we'll get half of them in the cycling alone. Ardlington, Idowu, Ainslie, the three female sailors and a couple in the rowing and bob's your uncle.

How many do you think we'll get?

14 or less :p

:) You don't sound very confident. Its not beyond the realms of possibility that we could finish 4th overall in the medal table. Everything would have to go right and there'd need to be a couple of shocks as well.

We shall see

Britain got ten gold medals last Olympics and thirty overall, finishing tenth. I'd be happy getting eleven gold medals, even if that meant fewer overall. I'd also prefer us to finish higher than tenth, even if it's ninth.

Improvement is always nice.

And I also really, really want the US to overhaul the Chinese, but I just can't see them doing it.

The thing is, I've watched all of the "big" events; the track finals so far, the decent swimming events (not the 400 metres using one arm and making noises like a dog) and some of the others and I've not yet seen a single Chinese pick up a gold. Which leads me to believe that they (and the South Koreans, come to think of it) are getting them in events that really push the boundary of the term "sport".

90% of the sports in Olympics are shit sports. Every sport has way too many events. They should finish the whole thing in a week.

I really hope the Chinese beat the Yanks. I'd rather they didnt finish top but I prefer them to the yanks.

i agree...its rediculous that.

Phelps... who wants to win gold in something called the 'butterfly'?!
USA, how many golds in the 'butterfly' is that? Bunch of kin gayers.

If I were British, I'd be jealous as well if one yank has two times as many gold medals as my whole country..

in the butterfly, wooooooo

anyhow, tomorrow we're getting 250,000 gold medals in the cycling and sailing so stuff that up yer fat yanky arses.

;)

Unlikely, don't they usually clean up in the boxing?

I'm not sure. Like I said before, this is probably the first Olympic games I have had the time or interest to watch. All I know is team handball is the most exciting womens sport invented.

I like how everyone is saying oh we are a small country we only have this many people yada yada, China have 1.3 billion people they should be winning the medal count and they are also hosting the games(always a huge boost)

Not to mention spawning children without bones to dance on a balance beam.

India should automatically be top anyway for winning the 10m Air Rifle. The only proper sport in the Olympics - a true test of endurance, technique and character.

Are the yanks any good in rowing? are they feck. They are good at things like gymnastics and the butterfly. Why go swimming when you can use a boat?

Some Korean lost his medals for testing positive for something

Why you a boat when you can fly?

Yeah I saw that. Apparently it was a drug to steady his arm.

Shooting is serious business.

Aside from two medals in swimming, the Brits only other medals come from Canoing, Cycling, and Equestrian.

All of which being former means of conveyance... Not much to boast about.

Equestrian was a mistake, the medals don't count. Anyway, the yanks are good at equestrian.

Well if you want to include current means of conveyance then we'd have to mention a certain Mr. Hamilton might be in with a shout of a gold there, too ;)
