Ole: "We should look for quality players that can improve us. We’ve got to think about longevity"

Bale is happening.

We are going for mostly long term players with one experienced (quality) player in my opinion.
No chance Bale is happening now, last season maybe but not now.

Fitness record has been poor this season and before. Madrid are paving the way for him to leave by making him appear to be a social outcast within the group, see Marca for details. Reckon there’s more chance of a swap deal with Spurs than us touching this one now. It would be Sanchez mk2

Fair enough.

Sanchez is leaving and bale is coming to replace him. Sanchez was struggling to play for Arsenal whilst Bale is struggling to play for Madrid. - 2 different class & the reason why I think if Sanchez leaves that ole and Woodward will take a punt on Bale.

We all like to think we know the future saying Bale is Sanchez V2 but where we're peoples intuition before we went in for Sanchez?

Feck, I dont like Bale being mentioned at all...there’s a reason why Madrid wants to get rid of him...it may not be Sanchez bad, but he is on high wages, injury prone and is only going to decline. We should stop pursuing top club outcasts and start pursuing promising players that can develop into worldclass players here.

Sancho, De Ligt, Teleimens and felix joao would be the best summer in a long, long time

Yes please. Although I would prefer Bruno Fernandes over Teleimens. We are too reliant on Pogba to produce goals from midfield, we have enough nullifiers in Herrera, Matic and McTominay.

I honestly think it would be Sanchez bad.

How about Pavon on RW? Or one of those south americans. Everyone talking about european players.

Doesn't sound like he's interested in a Bale type signing. That would be going backwards.

Why are the press so obsessed about finding a team for Bale? It's irritating. If he wants to still earn what he does he can go to China.

If Bale happens, I'll instantly lose my faith in Ole and join the group who thinks that Ed is a moron.

Probably not, but I will be incredibly disappointed. After Rooney, Falcao and Sanchez, we should learn to not go for past it players with injury problems (in Rooney case, he was just past it and was already in our books).

Despite what OGS has just said some people still think Bale is even a remote possibility?
A half the season injured, very opposite of longevity, guy who has never shown any desire to join us?

Exactly. We want players who want to come here, not ones who are forced to come here. It just doesn't work.

Bale is clearly not going to happen. No way would we make such a monumental feck up.

Imaging spending £80m or whatever on him and £350k+ on his wages rather than sign someone like Sancho.

I would flip my fecking lid and so would any other fan with half a brain.

It'd be incredible.
Like we'd not just had Sanchez which marginalised Martial.

Although Bale can play on the right..but NO NO NO

if this Sancho kid is as good as people say it could be our next Rooney/Ronaldo/Martial type buy.

Plus Bale looks to me like he's got an attitude. He would come here expecting to be treated like a star regardless of his performances. We really cannot afford any shit like this.

Not so much his attitude but his astronomical wages. Who's going to come anywhere near it? City but Pep isn't going to go for him

And his wages as well. I honestly don't like him personality wise as well. I know Madrid fans can be harsh but I have to agree with them on Bale. He seems quite 'standoffish'.

In any case, we don't need his wages and injuries.

There's that as well. My physio predicted that years ago;that this would affect his career.

Just the 4 UCLs to console himself!

Back to how United should be.

Key criterias
  • "quality players, who can improve us" ~ talents. No point getting similar players to what we already have, maybe.
  • "longetivity" ~ young players? United fans? British players? No more older players that is getting worse, maybe.
  • "fits personality-wise" ~ character that United players should have.

I think we need ready made stars, if they are young enough for longevity that's a bonus but I would rather get us winning major honours sooner than later and give time for our own youngsters to possibly make the grade. I think we are at least 3 top drawer players from a title winning team.

Tielemens has been very poor since his move to Monaco and Felix isn't in a position we need. Sancho and De light I'm all for.
Tielemens was never wanted by Jardim which left him frozen out and not used properly to prove a point. He's been decent at Leicester and done enough to prove he's got what it takes to play at this level within a team that utilise him correctly, plus, he's cheaper than most CM positions we'd be looking at, still young and would play back up happily.

Is that not more to do with character limot on twitter?
Yeah, that goes hand in hand with promoting text speak. But it's poor form that a reporter uses it in the first place, let alone when it can be mistaken for something else.

Today was another proof of that we simply aren't a top team yet. We had a nice honeymoon period under Ole but it's over now and we need to start working on this squad. Improve the weaknesses, bring in top young talents on every position. Players who aren't just talented but also have the right attitude.

Character is definitely the biggest issue if you're watching tonight. Quality is a given but we have some soft players.

We need end product. Controversial opinion but Rashford and Martial are far too raw to be depended upon game after game. We also lack quality in midfield, obviously.

Let's go for Alderweireld for £25m, Rabiot for free, Meunier as a cheaper RB alternative. Then we should go try to spend big on a RW (Sancho) and a CM (Neves). It doesn't have to exactly be those players but something like that.

Ship out Sanchez, Darmian, Valencia, Rojo, Bailly (loan) and McTominay (loan). Reevaluate Fred/Pereira at the end of the season too.

INS: Sancho, Neves, Alderweireld, Rabiot, Meunier.

And trust Martial and Rashford to beat their men on a regular basis?

I personally think we need 5 or 6 players to really start challenging but in one window I don’t think it’s genuinely possible.

We need an established natural right back so Dalot can progress or fight over the position with someone else, a left back as we’re an injury to Shaw from Young playing there. It’s well known we need a genuine quality centre back and start going with quality over quantity.

A defensive midfield who can dictate from deep like Carrick used to and also a midfielder who can score goals so there’s not so much pressure on Pogba. We’re in desperate need of a natural right sided forward who strikes fear into the opposition which is something we’ve lacked since Ronaldo 10 years ago.

If it was feasible I’d say go sign Wan-Bissaka, De Ligt, Tierney, Rabiot, Fernandes and Sancho as they all fit the right profile for us but I’d happily see us sign Alderweireld instead of De Ligt if De Ligt is Barca bound as heavily rumoured.

No matter how many quality players we bring in, it doesn't change the philosophy of the football or the identity the team has. Its a reason why Madrid for example have so much world class talents but they don't play good football as a team collective, they rely heavily on intuitive brilliance from players. This has been a problem we have manifested for years.

Most games under solskjaer's tenure we look a better team off the ball than on it, we are more threatening on the break / soaking up pressure, even in games we've won we look toothless in possession. That is 100% a managerial responsibility and it needs addressing.

We need quality players that is almost common sense, but for me without a directive set to follow, we will always have this never ending feeling of what we have as not being enough (Lukaku, Rashford, Pogba, Martial, Lingard) for goodness sake that is a strong spine of solid quality players.

We signed Pogba, Zlatan, Bailly and Mhki (who was bundesliga POTY) in and around one season, that is a quality window but we didn't have the system or the know how to unearth the full capability of the players. For better understanding if we signed Mane and Salah would they be as prolific for us as they are for Liverpool ...

Eh? Twitter has a cap on characters so you basically have to use it to get more ibfo into a tweet...

Yeah there has to be some serious investment in this squad in the summer and I don't just mean a flimsy £100m either

That for me would be a quality summer if Toby can find his best form again

 Bale.

Ole isn't going for him. It's the kind of signing that can cost you your job.

I think some are being a little harsh on bale.
He actually ticks a lot of boxes we need.

The big important question is obviously one of fitness but if you offered me an injury free couple of seasons I'd take him in a heartbeat. Big game performer and extraordinary talent.

In general I think the last couple of games has shown that our main issue is a character one, I think the talent is of a good level but hardened winners capable of dragging them along when things aren't going well are missing. Pogba, martial and rashford all needed an in-game bollocking yesterday, they were over playing on the ball and under playing off of it but there was no one there to dig them out and focus them.

Player personality is an underrated quality when people discussed transfers but it was at the heart of every saf signing and with good reason

Tielemans has never been frozen out by Jardim and no point has been made about him. He has often been a starter, made stupid individual mistakes and shown bad focus.
