What's sad about this is it's a reverse transfer thread now: just as with a major signing coming in, people are checking this thread routinely in the hope of Ole getting his marching orders.
I said in another thread we're about league 2 level in our handling of things at board level, but there's absolutely no doubt about it: we are the Blockbuster Video of world football. Our only saving grace is that we are too big to tank, but you do wonder what our commercial partners think of the utter shambles we've become.
Everything Manchester United is supposed to stand for historically is being eroded from:
- attacking, dynamic football
- promoting youth
- being a presence and force who can take on any team with what we bring to the table (see 80's us being up for big games)
- to most importantly, being a club associated with constant success, cups and leagues alike
I'd say the one thing we still have is the star name players, but if we tank this season, there's going to be an exodus on that front, too, with only the likes of poor Sancho, recently bound to a lengthy contract, unable to jump ship.
The damage being done right now does not only cover this season: we're in danger of getting dropped back to the start of the proverbial snakes and ladders board off the back of this incompetence.
I go from trying to shrug it off to genuine anger when actually thinking about what's going on with proper scope. There's no other 'giant' on the planet that would allow it, and even the cacophony of errors strewn across Barcelona's shambolic period was done with the intention of aiding them in winning things.
It boggles to mind to think how a club of such stature has turned to complete rot like this. How many departments and how many people are failing spectacularly for this to be the case? We're expose worthy: it would be an amazing watch to see how all of this unfolded. We're the living embodiment of the TV show Succession, aren't we?
