Nah pretty sure everything we've heard since pointed to Ole being told before the axe fell on Jose, even if it wasn't massively in advanced.

There's nothing to read in to not having much clue on who is replacing him yet, Ole's sack will be the news first.
Maybe, but there's a case of learning from the past. They didn't have Ole lined up before the Jose sack, I'm sure he was on the shortlist but not a definite until post-sack.

I missed some things. He has an entire week off?

I remember Solskjær saying a while ago that if he thought leaving united would be the best for the club then he’d walk away… was that just all lies? Surely he knows that walking away will get him a lot more respect from us fans and it looks better for him if he wants other jobs rather then being sacked. If he just admitted he’s done his very best and took us as far as he can then he’ll leave with a lot more pride but instead he’d rather ruin his legacy by staying which could make us end up finishing the season mid table… he’ll always be remembered for that.
Yeah he was talking shit it seems, him saying "I'm too close" after the Liverpool game speaks volumes about his mindset. Not only does it show that he's delusional but that he's only in this for himself.

As for walking away, mercs don't leave money on the table. So he'll stay till the board pays him off.

It was incredible news yesterday evening when it broke and, after a good night’s sleep, it’s even more incredible this morning. Not only giving yourself a week off, but to give the entire playing and coaching staff a week off as well, in the midst of the worst crisis (and there’s been a few…) at the club under your stewardship is completely and utterly tone deaf.

I’m genuinely speechless he’s gone ahead and done that. So much so that a part of me now thinks it’s part of some gentleman’s agreement between Solskjaer and his bosses and the news of his sacking will be filtered out in the coming hours. Give him time to get out of the spotlight and spend some time with his family. Possibly meet with his lawyers in Norway. Then announce the news similar to how it was handled with van Gaal. How else can you explain the events of the last 12-24 hours? It defies belief in the context of everything, it really does.

The week off thing only makes sense if he's gone. You don't give a terribly performing manager, staff and quite frankly the players too, a week off in this climate.

He's gone.

I don't think sending the players away is a bad idea but we are at the stage the squad are doubting every decision he makes and will second guess him at every turn.
He's finished. The sooner the club realise it, the better.

So why has he gotten the week off exactly? He's stank up the place this season with his poor management, we're getting humiliated by our rivals every week and he's holidaying? Very strange stuff.

Yeah, this is the only thing making sense in my opinion.

He was mentioned. I remember it quickly being tipped between him and Blanc. Reason I remember this was because I recall begging it to be Blanc and having a heated debate with a work colleague on why it shouldn't be Ole
I remember there was reports about Blanc only being interested in the permanent role and didn't want to be a placeholder for someone else.

They are maybe trying everything. They tried to have an open dialogue among the squad after the 5-0 thumping, they had a nice dinner out after Atalanta to team build. They might as well now try and have a week off (?).

It does make sense only if he's going to be sacked soon but then again this club does a lot of shit that makes no sense these days.

Relax guys. He is gone. You dont send him to Norway unless you are basically telling him to get out.

All this squad having a week off is nonsense.
I'm starting to think this too you know. Sending Ole and the squad on a weeks' long holiday when we've shown to be so far behind our rivals at this stage would actually defy logic.

Though on the flip side, this is the last break until quite a while after Christmas, so it could literally just be a holiday.

 Could be. Really is amateur FC if that's the case.

Thanks everyone.

I think that it's a first for me, I have never heard about something like that. Unless someone at the club realize that Ole seriously needs to rest but even then, the rest of the staff would carry on and coach kids or do something on the long term side of things like preparing the next transfer windows, training sessions programs, watch game tapes together and find new ideas.

Seems a bit much. Can't we just show a lot of heart and passion instead?

I'm sure there was optimism of his sacking this time yesterday too. I've gone the other way now. I think we're staying quiet because he's staying and given him allowance to go and 'have a break' and get away from the media circus.

I really don't think there's anything behind the decision to give them a week off. Most oeiole at the club don't know what they're doing and this just follows that.

Was just reading article that said, the board has no plan B.

Mistake they made was not replacing Ole last May as intended and got swayed by the results and coming 2nd.

Now they are stuck as no suitable replacement exists during the season and they are desperate to wait until end of the season.

One article says Ole usually takes a break at this international period, however, given the situation, is it a wise thing which is what maybe surprised the players.

First I'm hearing about that being what they intended? Where you getting that idea from? Never ever looked like he was going anywhere back then.

We replaced Jose with Ole.

Replacing Ole for the rest of the season should be very easy in truth

I am with you @Buchan and I believe that is what is happening. That and the important task of finding a new manager whether interim or permanent. Have a feeling and it is a strange feeling Carrick, Mckenna will be kept on with someone like Fletcher in charge until the summer. That's how incompetent we are

This would be just such a bad decision I couldn't help but laugh if we did that. I hate how realistic it is.

Yep, entire coaching staff and all the players not picked for international games apparently got a week off.
Wait, but wasn't Ole saying after Liverpool game that they are going to work hard in the international break to find solutions? It is getting ridiculous now.

I have a geeling they will do this why on earth would you sack the manager who himself has said he doesn't do the coaching of the players and keep the people who coach on! They need to get rid of them all and get an interim in and his coaching staff to get the season going.

We replaced Jose with Ole.

The expectations and reasons were completely different. It's easy to replace a toxic manager when the goal isn't to perform at a high level but to get rid of a nuisance. This Ole situation is in some way worse because this team goal is to be a top team in the short term and finding someone that can do that is not easy and it's even less easy if you are looking at the caretaker pool.

One option that would be fairly common is to look at the top you coach within our system, I think that it is Neil Wood. I know nothing about him but it is possible to have him as the interim manager until the end of the season.

What's sad about this is it's a reverse transfer thread now: just as with a major signing coming in, people are checking this thread routinely in the hope of Ole getting his marching orders.

I said in another thread we're about league 2 level in our handling of things at board level, but there's absolutely no doubt about it: we are the Blockbuster Video of world football. Our only saving grace is that we are too big to tank, but you do wonder what our commercial partners think of the utter shambles we've become.

Everything Manchester United is supposed to stand for historically is being eroded from:

- attacking, dynamic football
- promoting youth
- being a presence and force who can take on any team with what we bring to the table (see 80's us being up for big games)
- to most importantly, being a club associated with constant success, cups and leagues alike

I'd say the one thing we still have is the star name players, but if we tank this season, there's going to be an exodus on that front, too, with only the likes of poor Sancho, recently bound to a lengthy contract, unable to jump ship.

The damage being done right now does not only cover this season: we're in danger of getting dropped back to the start of the proverbial snakes and ladders board off the back of this incompetence.

I go from trying to shrug it off to genuine anger when actually thinking about what's going on with proper scope. There's no other 'giant' on the planet that would allow it, and even the cacophony of errors strewn across Barcelona's shambolic period was done with the intention of aiding them in winning things.

It boggles to mind to think how a club of such stature has turned to complete rot like this. How many departments and how many people are failing spectacularly for this to be the case? We're expose worthy: it would be an amazing watch to see how all of this unfolded. We're the living embodiment of the TV show Succession, aren't we?
