Is Ole a good appointment?

It feels a bit difference to a new manager bounce due to the drastic difference in our play and approach to the game. It's like night and day.

Honestly I don't envy the decision makers if we keep this up and Ole really does well for the remainder of the season. It's a risk either way, but I'd be tempted to ride this out and see just where he can take us. Sort out the DOF do all that, get him the best of the best, staff and players.

He's using the squad strengths to win the games. Fast play with quick interchanging making it a nightmare with our pace.

The good thing for us is we also have Sanchez as a backup (or starter). The above style is the exact style he thrives in.

My only worry about OGS is how he will fare in big games against the top 6. I fear with playing risky attacking football we'll easily concede against more quality attacking sides. I could be wrong but it is a big worry, especially with our shite CBs.

The big games we played this season showed it's useless to defend against big teams anyway as you're going to concede regardless. Best thing to do with our current squad is to attack and try to outscore the opponents, because we're not going to grind it with such defense.

So I guess we play to our strengths - fast play, high press, slick interchanging and creating chances. When was the last time we actually attacked a big team? Under Jose those games were always turned into a borefest.

Pogba, Sanchez, Martial, Rashford, Lukaku. I'd fancy us going forward against any defence in the league, now that we're using our players properly.

As a non-United fan, but someone who lived in Manchester and has been to Old Trafford many times, it's so refreshing to hear Solskjaer talking. It would be good anyway, but the contrast with Mourinho is literally like chalk and cheese. He's such a likeable and decent guy, you just want him to succeed.

When Mourinho was manager, he's such a cynical, negative, self-absorbed, egocentric, childish, spiteful bore, even though I have a bit of a soft spot for United, I wanted them to lose. I cannot support any team managed by Mourinho. And the football his teams play reflect his outward personality. Luckily, I don't really support anyone, and as I'm technically a Grimsby fan, I doubt Mourinho will ever be appointed!

But it's good to see United playing properly, and just for the manager to be saying positive things. I still think the players should have tried harder when Mourinho was in charge, but he sure as hell didn't make it easy for them to be motivated.

I remember after Spurs hammered us 3-0 at OT Jose said he was teaching the players "more advanced attacking football" and that "it would take time to implement"

Funny how Ole did in 3 games what Mou didnt do in almost a 1/3 season

The defences of the top 6 have been proven to be fragile if you have a go.

Arsenal don’t have a defence.
Chelsea’s have and error in them all the time
Tottenham have shown some fragility this season
City’s stand too far forward and can be done.
Liverpool haven’t been tested yet but they don’t strike me as United 06-11 good.

The most sad and funny thing is we were hopeful he was actually telling the truth and things would get better this season.....they did, but he had to feck off for it to happen.

He's didn't just do it in 3 games. He did it in one! God that's annoying.

One of the reasons when I find funny when people talk about players should try harder.

If Jose gets his way and players try hard, we will still get a lot of 1-0 wins most of the time while boring the feck out of everyone for half game anyway.

I am glad that didn't happen. Everyone should realize that even at his peak, Jose will never be a good United manager. I don't think fans would tolerate more than a couple of seasons even if he was remotely close to successful with his 'football'.

Does not mean he is a shit manager. He just does NOT fit us.

Totally agree with what you're saying but it's just a big worry. Time will obviously tell, though.

Also couldn't agree more on our attacking quality, it's not them that worry me. It's our terrible CBs and their poor ability to read a fast passing game.

BTW Im glad that even though Ole is talking about playing home grown players, he doesnt include Mctominay, probably since he realizes he's not up to standart.

I genuinley think that if Ole keeps this up, Ed would have no choice but to hire him full time. He respects the club, yhr players respect him and he knows what Man Utd is all about. We tried big name managers, it's not for us. Time to go the Barca way and hire managers that know the club and philosophy, regardless of their trophy history. As Ole said, when you have good players its easy to play good football, they juat need proper guidance.

Well done Ole Gunnar Solkskjaer. Yes people can point to the quality of the opposition played to date. I've actually enjoyed watching the highlights of the games. It's Manchester United you expect to see. Sure tougher tests lie ahead but bar goals conceded he really couldn't have done better. You are frightening going forward, decent midfield, world class keeper with just the centre backs to work on. Would love to see Ed give him funds to bring in a centre back. Intrigued as to how the remainder of the season goes.

I think he is injured.

Sarri at Chelsea showed that it doesn't take time to implement a whole new style of play. What Mourinho said was nonsense.

He's galvanized the club and supporters. There's a clear identity now, especially against teams "you're supposed to beat". The individual quality is being matched with the tactics/philosophy that can be implemented with the current players.

The biggest test is Newcastle because it's the next game and it's a proper club, away match at a bogey ground against a manager who will make his team have a solid shape, more so than Cardiff, Huddersfield and Bournemouth.

If United get top 4, the permanent job must be between him and Poch. But still believe a DoF is necessary moving forward.

I agree with this. Managerial appointments seem so hit and miss these days, might as well try and build something with one of our own who will genuinely have the club's values and interests in his heart. Goes for players - I'd rather have a Rashford putting in 100% for the shirt and visibly growing than a ready-made, top name merc for a couple of seasons. Ole will do right by the academy lads, and talent-permitting, they will invariably do right by him. The fans will always go for that.

Looking back on it, much of what he said was nonsense; even the bit about us having a tough season. It didn't need to be. Another of Jose's self-fulfilling prophesies.

He has done a tremendous job so far. Yes, there are a number of factors that have probably impacted our play, and we haven't played the best teams, but we wouldn't go from the shit we were playing to how we are playing now with just anyone. He has been clear about his aims and how he wants us to play, and the players have clearly responded to that in a big way. If we can keep playing this kind of attacking football consistently then I think he would deserve to be given the job.

I really hope the club has already identified and contacted the man they want next season and are busy structuring the set-up for his arrival. It may well be Ole and Phelan in charge but my guess is it will be an outsider. Mind you, the compensation to Molde would be considerably less than to Tottenham and to Woodward, that would be a big plus.

Chelsea could implement a new style with a much more settled back line, something United doesn't have and something Jose identified very early this year. Getting Kovacic and Jorghino enabled Sarri to make a more immediate impact. He, Jose, compromised too much going forward, tried to change to a more attacking team and failed, completely. I don't believe he knew how to do it, coupled with his stubbornness.

Under Jose, the squad was very predictable or should have been. Errors were made on the back foot. Under Ole, the movement of all the players and passing forward and pressing in packs, closing the initial space makes it unpredictable for the previous 3 opponents.

This! And...remember LVG's "philosophy" that never took hold?! The difference is a manager who can communicate with, and has mutual respect with, his players.

Or maybe Jose did implement a football style. That negative, messy, bus parking football to bore the feck out of is probably his style. We were probably overestimating him too much.

Doing a great job. If I'm being honest, we don't look like world beaters, but the football is exciting and the players are being given the freedom to perform. I'm really curious to see how we do in our first proper test against Spurs. I love the guy and hope he continues to impress enough to make the job his.

And who do you think is the best available? and in case you get him, will you start again with the rebuilding?
1. Good question. I have no idea apart from the obvious candidates (Pochettino, Jardim) but there must be a better candidate than someone who's come from the Norwegian league.
2. Yes, definitely need to start the rebuilding.

I heard it a lot. Which were those games?

Because I remember some of his first games were pretty shit and us needing to grind out some results with some late goals. And, the attacking play was never that smooth in those games. At all.
We won our first three games under him, didn't we. 3-1 Bournemouth, 2-0 Southampton and 1-0 Hull.

We also started off with 10 goals in three games last year, when it looked like we were having a rebirth after winning the Europa League.
