Is Ole a good appointment?

When our best players all play on the same side of the field, Pogba, Shaw and Martial, it's imperative that we put some threat on the right. Lingard tucks in and does very little, making the Wolves defence able to focus solely on one half of the pitch.

We are so easy to defend against, unbelievable that Ole has continued with just abandoning the right wing. Chong or just someone who can stay out there could at least stretch the defence.
Absolutely. PSG did it first half/first leg. Nullified Pogba and Martial and we created very little.

I think he can set up a team to play on the counter and work with combinations. Although to break a solid team down he got a lot of work to do. We don't seem to have too many ideas how to do it. Crosses with good movements could be one way or we could try to open up space for our wingers to attack or go more centrally. Today we didn't seem to do much at all.

It's almost like he inherited a squad with absolutely appalling quality beyond those key players and has had to deal with an injury crisis.

No, wait, it's exactly like that.
This.
The squad has been pulled to thin, not Oles fault entirely,

To be fair this has been our problem for years.

Like his predecessors, has not addressed our absolutely non existent right side. We get nothing from there. Let's hope he looks to change this over the summer.

I guess now is a even bigger "Test" to see if he can pick these arrogant (pogba/matic/Rashford/martial/lingard) players up and get them playing. Someone did mention this "Test" few weeks ago and now we'll see.

Arsenal game we did everything but score and tonight we just didn't do anything sadly, really poor performance from everyone involved.

Only players who pops into my mind are McT and Fred instead of Herrera and Matić. Other that that, especially up front, there's not much.
Think that the Lukaku injury hurt us. Also in a funny way Young playing at RB and maybe Dalot further forward. It is hindsight again isn't it. Lingard was obviously rusty, Rashford looks jaded to me and Martial looks like someone who didn't want to get injured again.

Evaluating manager's impact on game to game basis is incredibly bizarre.

His obsession with the "First XI" is a bit weird given that he is Sir Alex's disciple, who was a master at rotating the squad. Our back-up players did well in the time some of these guys were out and I felt there was no need to rush them all back to the XI for this game. One of Fred or Pereira should have played instead of Herrera, who looked totally off color. Rashford, who has looked like he has been carrying something the last couple of games, could have come off the bench too instead of starting.

One thing is clear, Ole or whoever gets the job in the summer, need to have a big transfer window. We cannot be passive or be satisfied with a couple of additions. We need to drop close to 300m to get closer to the top teams. There are simply too many mediocre players stinking up the joint. They need to be either replaced or upgraded.

International break has come at a good time. Recharge and reset for the run-in.

If he has any sense he'll be talking to Woodward about offloading a lot of the dross in our team and overhauling the squad.

You seem not to fancy him? :)
Oh, don't go with that " you are either with us or against us". I just have my doubts. He has good results, but many bad things are masked with that results. I would wait end of season and then decided is he our new coach or not.

No that’s why they have been ran into the ground !!!
You said he ran them in the ground now you say why did they play.
They recovered, that's why they started..
To be clear in an FA cup game, we should have played the youngsters against wolves and rested our key players/players nursing injuries. Not put them out there again, hoping against all hope they could pull something out the bag. Saf almost invented the term rotation into the game but ole seems to have missed that lesson.

To be fair this has been our problem for years.

We did it well under SAF. Agree that Mourinho also wanted to play more on the counter. We have had 3 poor defensive managers before Ole though.

There is no doubt about the fact that Ole can lift the spirit of our team and can manage those parts. Although to challenge for the league we need to attack better as a team
and have different methods to use.

Boy, we need to strenghten up in the summer. Paper thins squad. Rashford out of form but who to put instead of him. Ok Lukaku but Martial being out of from too... I didn't like Martial's demenaour tonight.

Ole isn't the miracle worker that some desperately believe he is.

The squad is the squad, they've proven time and time again their inconsistency. In all honesty we should've been out vs PSG but we had a magical moment which was great. In the grand scheme of things though, it wouldn't matter much.

I just don't see OGS reshaping the club to get with the modern times. All I see (and hear) are just nice things and what SAF would've done, SAF's way, spirit etc.

I thought we all agreed (when Fergie left) that the next guy shouldn't try to emulate the great man. But now Ole's fine? I don't really get that, personally.

If we give him the job, I hope he succeeds of course, but I'm really worried.

My worry is that Ole’s reputation will be damaged should he get the job full time after how ever many months.

As far as I’m concerned, what we’ve seen is nothing more than a prolonged new manager bounce and a slice of good luck here and there and now it seems both have come to an end. That tonight was the type of performance we saw week in and week under Jose, LVG and Moyes.

I love Ole, he is a Man Utd legend but he isn’t the man to take us forward next season.

I'll give you today, as several players looked shite, but Arsenal? As a whole, we played well against them, but our finishing let us down, which was made worse by De Gea dropping a clanger.

I thought we looked very lackluster against them, especially in the area of determination. We were really outfought by them, especially in the first half. We could have won the game, certainly, and if Lukaku had scored that chance when it was 0-0 who knows how the game might have gone, but in my opinion most of the team were below par against arsenal.

Why should we rotate in FA cup which is probably our only option for a trophy? And there's international brake coming too so..

So half a seasons worth of games, if you convert it all to points it would be 44 points from the 19 games. Then when you consider that 6 of those have been cup games against PSG (home/away), Arsenal (away), Chelsea (away), Wolves (away) and Reading (home).

Yeah I'd say Ole's done alright so far. feck off all the knee jerkers going so in depth on every single little thing. It's like people are going to ask questions if hes anything less than perfect, when theres never been a manager who was perfect.

Not saying this for the first time but waiting eternity to make a sub is a issue for me. I dont care who the manager is, United as football club has standards, when it comes to performance, attitude and he should know that better then some. Tonight was awful in that regard.

Also, dont have any proof of this, it just a feeling, seems since first whispers of him getting job on permanent basis, we looked set a bit more pragmatic, result based, from freedom given by interim manager to decisions how to increase its chances to get a job permanently.

Aye. The club should seriously consider announcing it soon. This trial by game is unfair.

The job is his and it’s up to Ed now to make he gets full backing in the summer.

That is it with Tony, he is either up for it or he isn't. Other players might not play well, like say Rashford, but you could never say they aren't trying.

I agree.

I will say that though tbf to Ole, during our first few games, we genuinely did look good. There were some kinks and all, but we played some really promising stuff. It's just progressively gotten worse over time.

I think Ole can be the man though. He seem open to learn and could use some good assistants to help him out. We need some more attacking quality though and also a deep playmaker like Carrick used to be. I think Ole got the mindset to attack a lot so with some more quality and also working with the players we got it should hopefully improve.

Gotta take the bad with the good, there was always going to be some downs but after such a strong start and getting us into a position in the league where top 4 is a real possibility and advancing in the cups the expectations have changed and it's no longer a free shot and the pressure is now there to perform week in and week out to take advantage of the position we've gotten ourselves in to. Last week was a blow to top 4 and today put an end to our most realistic chance at silverware so it's no wonder people are feeling a bit deflated, the team really needs to bounce back quickly because the end of the season is going to be a grind.

Why should we rotate in FA cup which is probably our only option for a trophy? And there's international brake coming too so..
Because the fa cup is a trophy that should be very low on our priorities (lvg got sacked after winning it (his championship!!) and Saf didn’t even enter it one year). Top 4 is our major ambition now, especially after drawing Barcelona in the last 8. Today players should have been rested, instead he rested our goalkeeper, who would have probably saved both goals (certainly the second)!

Confidence boost can really help sometimes :). We had some easy games to start with too.

It was a good performance at Arsenal, so why change the team so much. Lukaku and Young were the only ones that needed changing.
Maybe he trusts the first team more and they let him down.

Maybe he felt switching the team so drastically would be unexpected tactically but was anticipated by Nuno.

Who knows?

I just want to see how they react and bounce back from this consecutive defeat. It's the latest in a long line of tests for ole

And had happened once in 3 months under Solskjaer...

Feel free to name all the managers who don't have dreadful games from time to time. We'll all wait for you.

Wolves have beaten better teams than us at home and they kind of played us the way we play good teams so its kind of moot to moan too much about this. We do however need a plan for how we attack when we are given the ball. Possession is almost a strange concept to us now.
