Is Ole a good appointment?

How do Molde fans feel about him leaving them briefly and potentially permanently at the end of the season? Even if he doesn't get the United job, I'm sure he'll be flooded with other offers.

Sarri and Emre both started very strong and positive and look at them now! I mean should we wait at least till May to decide whether Ole can maintain what he has done so far?

Both start in the league was pretty overrated and I maintained that view while thought otherwise just because we were god awful at the start of the season.

Do you have any stats to show how he performed the function of an attacking right player? Because I didn't see much of it being done today

I suppose you can judge him as a right winger or you can judge him on the task he was asked to perform. If Solskjaer wanted him to dribble down the right wing, beat players and put crosses in then perhaps he didn't play well but the way Mata is used and has been used for the last few years on the right is to have freedom to drift inside and be a creative force in the spaces between midfield and attack, link play and create chances with a marauding full back overlapping him attacking the space he vacates.

A good point you make and I'm judging Mata on the former. Either through limited ability or instruction, Mata is failing to provide the 'wide' functions and it is impacting our attack.

Nothing against Mata personally, but in sick of seeing him in that position. As a team we are far worse off for it. As it stands, I'd prefer Lingard as the starter, with Sanchez or Lukkaku used there as the Plan B (with the potential to secure a 1st place spot), while we should also be looking to bring through youth for that position

Mata has been tried there enough times and lessons should have been learnt

Amazing how we've achieved something that last happened when Ronaldo was here, regarding the consecutive away wins stat... Two of those six games containing Spurs and Arsenal too.

IMO Arsenal's good run had lots of good fortune and dodgy decisions go their way and even if you ignore that I don't see anything that arsenal do/did which is anything like Emery's style of Seville/psg, to me it looks like wenger is still in charge (same small passes and naive defending, which a manager should be sorting out but same old). Don't really see what he has changed from wenger every time I've watched them.

As for Serri, I might be wrong on this but they didn't really play much different to the way they have now (ignore this city game) it's the same pass * 100 then hazard scores, yes they did play the possession game but I don't think they were above average tbh.

As for ole, he has completely changed our playing style despite the obvious holes in our squad (weak defence, no RW/RB) and is working on maximising our strengths. IMO there's still alot to improve as you can see players trying to do things in matches that aren't quite coming off but there are clear signs of improvement in our way of playing (only been 2 months since he took over). The teams we have beaten so far (bar Spurs and Arsenal away) are teams we should be beating with our attacking players, so that's not a surprise but it's the manner of performances which has impressed rather than just results which is more important atm and if he can continue that through out the season then I don't see any reason why he shouldn't be given the job and waiting till may to decide to give him the job (if we continue to improve bit by bit) doesn't change anything, I highly doubt he'd rather be anywhere else other than here managing United.

The board have f'd up the previous 3 appointments by moving away from what United are about and just going with big names and Moyes. if Ole continues to do well, i hope they won't feck this up by appointing a new shiny toy and once again moving away from what makes this club great.

I agree with the notion that we could benefit from strengthening in that position. Ole's tactics are exposing certain players as not suitable for his style and if we are to push on to the next level then we'll need to recruit players that fit into the system that improve the team or add depth.

The last 4 managers have now used Mata in this role so he must be doing something right. The great shame about Mata though is that we have wasted him by not playing him as a traditional number 10 because he is a very clever player and effective as long as you have pace and runners around him. I actually think he still has a role to play in this squad and I think he is a good player to have in games where teams are going to sit deep (although he was ineffective against Burnley and tended to occupy similar positions to Pogba). Sanchez could be the upgrade we need but he loses the ball a lot because he takes a lot of risks, which is fine when he is creating/scoring but he's not doing well enough whereas Mata is always great at retaining possession and helping us build attacks. Lukaku has shown promise on the right but I'm yet to be convinced completely. Lingard is definitely first choice at the moment and I think we'll see that confirmed against PSG.

If we are going to buy players, I don't think RW is our biggest priority and there may well be merit in persisting with the current crop and/or seeing if Chong can step up.

Just realised he’s taken our goal difference from comedy bad to better than both Arsenal and Chelsea (both of whom had a lot of hype about their manAgers earlier this season). Already. Amazing really.

We've caught up 11 points and a 21 goal difference to Chelsea who were 4th when Ole took over.

It's very easy to say that and it's most likely true. I doubt Custis know anything other than a safe guess.

Happy with that, hopefully true.

It would be kind on Molde too if it saves them hanging around twiddling their thumbs waiting untill the end of the season and may push toward us anouncing it earlier.

Not sure about reliability of Curtis

Smart decision if true. The players really seem to respect him. The last 6 years have been a lesson for the club. He may be the one to carry on the next two decades. Let’s hope fans put up with the rough patches when they come.

It’s funny that people can say he’s benefitting from the typical manager honeymoon period, but when his name was mentioned not even the biggest optimist would have said he’d win ten from eleven, get to 4th and go into PSG game with actual optimism. Which is it.

Normally not the superstitious type but if they are making him permanent I really hope they don't announce anything before the Liverpool game, because we all know what will happen then in that game if it is his first game as permanent manager.

Leave things go as they are now it ain't broke) , and make things official in the summer.

He might be all smiley and positive on public but he is absolutely ruthless behind. Lukaku, Sanchez , Fred all goes to the bench , got rid of Fellaini pretty quick , Pereira no longer in the squad after lackluster performance. He also have no problem in winning ugly and would keep it tight against stronger opposition, a true baby face assassin , same as when he was a player. Defender might see him as someone harmless when he is absolutely ruthless on the box . Mourinho would say things you might dislike on public but he would gave your favourite player a very long rope to hold on.

Its in the Mail and the Sun that Ole hs got the job full time, thats why one of the Glazers was at the game and after talked with him his agent Woody and the other directors. It says they aint gonna announce it until the end of the season. Probably going to announce the DOF first.

I watched the Leicester game on a Russian Stream and they kept saying in English 'Baby Face Killer' :D

So “thorough recruitment process” is “this lad has got a winning run and says the right things in interviews”?

No wonder we gave Moyes a 5 year deal, and extended Mourinho’s.

Can’t even wait til the end of the season to evaluate everything, got to stay true to Knee Jerk FC traditions

My only hope is that it’s Custis and it could all be air.

For clarification, not that I don’t love Ole or that he’s not doing a good job. I just feel like deciding now is what lunatics would do, especially considering our track record.

Pretty risk free story really isn't it.

I'd say those 11 games were a pretty thorough job interview, yeah.

Maybe they took a look around the managerial landscape, saw a grand total of feck all, then wondered why they were even bothering since the guy they asked to steady the ship was actually doing a better job than the guy they were going to replace him with.

11 games run is a thorough job interview for Man Utd? bet.

Also, I don’t know who the other candidates were but according to the press, Pochettino was one, if not THE guy, and well, he’s in a title fight despite not buying any players, unlike the teams he’s competing against, and having to juggle injuries to some of his more important players. I think that one guy is doing well. If we knew who the other guys were we might have a better picture.

Nonetheless if we were at the end of the season and the club were happy with everything Ole had done, by all means...deciding now though? yikes

Speaking of knee jerk reactions...

So a poster actually supports Pochettino? That's just plain fecking weird.

In May 2009, I wasn’t even a football fan - I only started following football during the World Cup in South Africa the following year, and I became a United fan in about October/November 2010.

This makes me feel old.

I think most people knew Poch wasn't happening. He's in a title fight, kind of, and is undoubtedly a good manager so I won't try and play down those achievements.

Let's say Spurs/Poch wouldn't even entertain an approach. Where then? Why bother risking it with Zidane or whoever when there's someone already sat in the dugout who has by far exceeded any expectations in terms of results, brought the style of play and excitement back, made the fans happy again, looks to have a great chance at the all important champions league place which was out of sight just weeks ago, and perhaps most importantly is getting the best out of your star player at long last. Not only that, but getting the best out of the rest of the clubs players who your previous manager told you needed replacing. I get that 11 games is a small sample size, but it's still title winning form. If he keeps it up, he's doing exactly what we'd be asking his replacement to do anyway.

When he's already ticking every single conceivable box, why even look elsewhere? What else could another manager give you? It's amazing what Ole has done here. Why risk appointing someone else when the best they could do is the same?

It just reads like a needless pop at the board.

It doesn’t because one, I merely stated we have made hasty decisions before and I’m hoping we aren’t doing it again, and two, it clearly says that it could all be nonsense.

I am also for Ole right now but some of you guys are really simplifying this. We definitely should wait till close to May. I personally think nothing will go wrong and Ole should get the job then but let's rule out the possibility of something bad happening.

Can't stop singing 'Ole's At The Wheel' around the house! I won't repeat any of the stats as it's clear how he's turned things around. What I do want to say is that if we do choose someone else--like Pochettino-the spirit and energy at the club will drop by a few notches. Even if we get knocked out of the CL, I'm sure Ole will be forgiven by the players/fans. Top four will be a bonus given how the season started and if we're still playing the same kinda attacking football there will still be an appetite to keep him. Ole gets it. I don't want anyone else tbh.

Makes no sense to give him the permanent job before we've seen what happens in the next 3-4 weeks.

You mean by appointing well renowned managers with years of experience at big clubs, giving them a blank cheque and at the minimum two years to work their magic to only fail miserably? Bringing in big names hasnt worked. They cannot handle the pressure of Manchester United because we expect to win and win in style.

Sorry but I'd be all for giving Ole the job. There's no pressure on him. If he fails, he fails and nobody will look down on him for it because he's a club legend. That is the beauty of his appointment.

If the board wants to give him the job full time, I have no issue with that.

I would still prefer that we get a DOF in to work alongside him. Let Ole focus on managing the team, and not have to dedicate half his time to figuring out transfers as well.
