Are you seriously going to attribute last season to Ole while comparing him to Mourinho when he was pretty much mopping up the mess Mourinho created in the 2nd half of the season? This kind of dishonesty is an insult to anyone with active brain cells.

I hope Ole does as well in 2 seasons as Mourinho did. Europa league win, League cup win, FA cup runners up, Premier league runners up.

The fact that Ole didn't rotate CBs at all during the festive period and he was reluctant to take Maguire off when he had a knock says all you need to know about the situation. I wonder how many more managers it will take before people start comprehending the bolded part.

I think everyone comprehends that our board is wank, that doesn’t mean having a crap manager is a good idea though, in fact, quite the opposite.

Both of us were replying to "Who was the manager when Phil Jones got a new contract?". So no, not everyone comprehends that. Jones would have got a new contract regardless of who was in charge.

Peak delusion
In all my time on redcafe I think we've reached peak levels of delusion. The idea Ole should be sacked right now is absolutely ridiculous given the squad, the injuries and the improvement in the football. We're playing better football now than at any time since SAF, yet because the results aren't great people are losing their shit. Is he the right man? Time will tell, but he needs just that.

It is quite frankly embarrassing for us all!

100% rival fan

If anyone thinks we would be playing good football with this squad they are delusional. Happy to stick with ole as long he continues the clear out of deadwood and gets solid replacements in.

These comparisons are mental. Klopp? Are you kidding.

Also, this hilarious myth of Ole cleaning up Mourinho's mess gets me every time. 18 months ago we finished with 81 points under Jose, 2 more points than the treble winners of 98-99 got. We have gone backwards under Ole, we are far worse off now than we were under Jose.

Being a supporter doesn't mean "back the club at all costs and never call out bullshit" being a supporter means you want the best for the club, anyone staying silent on Ole is part of the problem. He is taking us down the shitter. He doesn't need time he needs to be binned ASAP before even more damage is done.

Look at Liverpool, we literally finished above them just 18 months ago. Not even that long. We weren't that far away from challenging for a title just a year and a haf ago, now look at the state of us.

Anyone who wants Ole to stay at this point is actively supporting the clubs slide into mediocrity.

To me Ole isn't doing any bad that Jose or Van Gaal. We have young squad and stopped spending crazy money. Now is about making sensible spending.
2 Midfielders and a striker should be the next step or alt least get a loan or free transfer a few players till the end of the season.

When I see "sensible spending', I know right away someone's bought the propaganda. United, by all accounts has 100s of millions of supporters (some estimates put it in the half billion range, and Apple has how many committed users/buyers? Yet, Apple is valued at ~1.3 trillion. So if Ed Woodward was the wizard some people claim he is...he's severely under-performing. Even then, sensible spending is not 50 million net per summer window. Sensible would mean having a top 10, top 5 coach, a DOF who buys complimentary players etc..

The sensible thing is to realize that this leadership has dug a huge hole and there is absolutely no way they're capable of digging out of it.

How is offering Ashley Young an 1 year extension clearing dead wood?

Your post is common sense, we’re in a miles worse state than when Mourinho was here.
Thing is, I already know the standard reply, “that squad was shite that finished 2nd”, “Mou’s biggest ever achievement” etc etc.

As I said yesterday, some of these lot are like climate change deniers.

Every single statistic shows Ole is doing miles worse than both LVG & Mourinho.

And we spent 110m quid on 2 players this Summer, one isn’t even a full international. “Sensible”.

This is where they come unstuck, because they'll say Mou was shit and couldn't get them playing but then in the same sentence say the squad was shit and coming 2nd was Mou's biggest achievement. Can't have it both ways lads!

It's mental mate. This mentality that some of our fans have is insane. I want the best for my club at all costs, if that means calling out the club/management/players than so be it. Some of these fans who accuse anyone who refuses to lick Ole's ring of being "not real fans" seem happy for us to never compete for top honours again. Ray Charles can see that we're going nowhere under Ole, and he's blind and dead.

My God man you've bought into all of this haven't you. Some just love the taste of the United PR kool aid I guess....

No, we're shit and Ole is doing a very bad job. What's sensible about letting your best CB leave for free, blowing £80m on a replacement who is no better, selling your #9 without a replacement, and completely neglecting the AM and RW positions which have been in dire need of investment for years?

Propaganda FC have reeled you in brother.

Actively supporting the clubs slide into mediocrity? Come on man - get a grip.
Yes. I stand by that. We will look back on these days the way Liverpool fans look back on Hodgson. The longer he's here the worst it will get. We need a real manager with an actual plan.

Seriously ?!

Well for the first time since SAF left I actually look forward to watching us play. We attack, look to pass between the lines, pressure the opposition, push people up the pitch, play out from the back. There's loads of reasons why for me the football is the best it has been. I hope results follow.

We have goal difference of +7 after 21 games.

peak levels of delusion you say? Jeez you cant be serious?

You seriously going to try make the arguement that deadwood hasn't been cleared? Our squad is paper thin because we got rid of it without proper replacements.

I consider Jones, Lingard, Young and Mata genuine deadwood. Ole let go of Fellaini, Lukaku, Herrera and Smalling who I believe would be doing a lot better then the players he kept. I’m not saying they were great players, but hardly deadwood.

:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol: what are you on? I want some !!

I look at him and just see Moyes now. I’d probably actually rather Moyes at this point which says it all really.

Attributing 6th place to Ole while comparing to Jose is straight up bush league unless you put it in context that Jose himself got 26 points in 17 games and Ole accrued 40 in the remaining 21.

The season where jose is sacked, mind you.

If you're gonna compare the year x manager is sacked off course it wont be pretty.

Me too!!!! And I hate Moyes with a passion.

We are beyond tragic right now. I can’t wait until this period of the clubs history is over. We will look back on this and be seething we allowed this all to happen in the first place. The fans can have a huge influence but for whatever reason match going fans really seem that arsed.

I've seen so little speculation about him getting the sack in the papers as well unlike when we had Jose and Moyes. It's like no matter what he does he is staying

The papers/ links seem to be more focused on the players

I'm sure we will beat Norwich and "restrict" Liverpool to a 1-0 win and again itll be asked if a corner has been turned. We seem to turn so may corners we are effectively on a circle ending up back at square one each time.

Ole is not the whole problem with what is wrong with the club but a large percentage of it so needs to go However at the same time it needs to be used as part of a huge overhaul of the structure, including moving Ed to the corporate only side, appointing a DOF, reviewing the scouting network and the whole coaching structure

As I've said before Ed can hide behind him as he is such a yes man who is in his dream job he isnt qualified so of course he will say whatever the board want him to. Also if he is sacked the attention then falls to Ed as none of this is likely to have happened if he had done as stated and waited until the end of the season before appointing a permanent manager yes the initial run was great and I was Ole in however I wouldn't have been after the subsequent run, we could have said thanks for helping put and he left with our best wishes and we appoint a permanent manager. Also it would be yet another manager Ed has appointed who failed so of course the spot light will fall on him there have already been articles about him which I didnt notice under the last 3

I dont think it helps aside from Phelan though his era is now "outdated" that he has a very inexperienced coaching staff, though I am wondering if Carrick is perhaps the one who has worked to get Fred up to his expected level.

He is starting to sound like Moyes as well with half the stuff he said, his interview after City was interesting usually he is very smooth but he was pausing a lot and seemed almost lost for words.

We have a young squad? That's myth. Average age wise we're quite young. But most of our starting xi are either 25 plus or having more than several season playing in premier league.

De gea : veteran, what was it? 8 years with us?

Young : veteran
Maguire : new with us, but been on the league for ages
Lindelof : 3rd year with us
Dalot : 3rd year
Awb : same as maguire

Fred : 2nd year
Mct : 3rd year on first xi?
Pogba : 3rd year
Lingard : 3rd year
James : 1st year
Mata : veteran

Martial :5 years with us
Rashford : similar to martial

Apart from gomes, greenwood and williams which features little on weekly basis our squad is actually old by epl standard, 3-4 years you cant use they're adopting and learning as excuse.

In most team 3-4 years is the average tenure of being in one club, we still call then young and learning

Use whatever metrics you want. 2nd year start? Last year start? Last 30 games, pts per game, anything you want.

Ole would be deemed the next saf if he won what jose won in 3 years

Best post ever. The world is in safe hands. Finally Greta!

I believe they care but it’s like going to Church... they dare not say a bad word about the guy preaching gods word. Ole being the latest pastor.

No other big club would allow this to stand though. It's a joke. Ole isn't even our biggest problem which is even scarier.

I mean if people say our squad is not top 4 material, our board is shit, our players are young and inconsistent, we're going through a rebuild. Why not just get a manager that has done well in all these circumstances. Pochettino is right there

Maybe we should just hire Cristiano Ronaldo to manage us then as he’s a better player than Ole. In fact might be abit difficult, let’s just get Mark Hughes. Upgrade the athlete. The rubbish some of you posters say.
Maybe we should just back the current manager. This squad is the worst in terms of depth a quality for 30 years, Moyes had a better squad, so did jose and LVG. Ole has not been properly backed.

Where would you expect this squad to finish?

Yeah Martail, Rashford, McTom, AWB arent going to improve anymore, near retirement age now. Old squad.

What in his 10 years of management gives you any reasonable expectation that Ole has the skillset to improve the situation? We know from LVG and Jose that past glories are no assurance of future success but that doesn’t mean you just forget about qualifications and appoint some random ex-player.

There are no assurances with Ole, there are no assurances for any other manager who would come in. The only thing we know is the team is a bit sh*t right now, and a better squad generally equals better performances.

The transfer window is open right now
Solskjær: “If there’s something there for us, I’ve got the backing to do something. But if it’s not the right thing I won’t do anything.”
If he doesn’t improve the squad, it will be his decision.
