To be brutally honest here, i don't think that giving Ole 200-300 mil is a good move.

We shldnt give any manager any money. We shld have a sporting director and transfer team in charge of transfers. And we absolutely need to spend big this summer due to the amount of dross that needs replacing

I told you so moment. We should have never announced it till the end of the season even if he was to get the job.

That first 10 mins, We have started like that under Mourinho too but we have a serious problem with composure. We always need way too many chances to score, then we inevitably get punished by the other team. That's on the players, he needs to address that.

I want to see some fresh ideas. It's all gone stale since those first few games.

His decisions are suspect but as he's been given the contract, we'll have to see what happens in the summer.

I hope to see him ship deadwood like Lingard & Young out. If i see him buying an experienced striker to replace Rashford too, then i'll be optimistic about next year.

Felt it was a bad appointment at the time and our performances since have not changed my mind. Will be surprised if he is our manager 1 year from now.
Only time and signings will tell. Go into next season with that midfield and full backs and he’ll be gone before Xmas

Hes taken us from 6th to 6th mate.
but lets forget, we were actually 10+ points of 4th but now have a chance. But football fans have short memory
The expected return in terms of performance for each GBP spent is higher for Poch than for Ole. People here think that players share their own romantic red-tinted views of Ole. Do the current players have faith in him? Will potential signings have faith in him with the record he is putting together?

Anyway it will all come out in the wash and people on here will realize that sentiment only goes so far.

How much has Ole spent? If you're going to shit on our manager at least make it realistic, the other day another poch lover said poch has experience of managing a big club and now you're making shit up to support a otherwise fair argument.

Stop clutching small straws and grab the big one.

God bless Ole. He’s got a hell of job coming up in the next four months. I’m not going to be humour the fact that he could possibly not be our manager come the start of next season quite yet.

1) Fight for Champions League football. As much as finishing in the top four would have been seen as a great achievement when he joined, failing to do so will be seen as a real disappointment now. All the upward momentum has dissapated after 5 losses in 7 and the next games are Everton away, City at home and Chelsea at home. Ole’s got to finish strongly to ensure his reign doesn’t become one of apathy heading into the summer. United are currently on one of their worst runs in the last 30 years: the last time we lost 5 in 7 in one season was November 1996 and it could get worse. Players will have one less reason to join United without being in the CL.

2) Culling the deadwood. United have been carrying a lot of medicore players for too long. A number of these need to be driven out with elite placements to come in. Herrera, Mata, Valencia and Darmian should all expire and move on. Rojo should follow with no obvious role at the club. That’s five already with others possible, Fellaini having left is six, but moving underwhelming players on with lucrative contracts is really difficult.

3) Securing the future. The club should try and secure the future of the two elite players in the squad. Both Pogba and De Gea should be given a strong sell that they can realise their ambition at United and they are the figureheads of the club going forward. Neither are perfect, but they are our best players and it would make a big statement for them both to re-sign. I want them committed and us to get the most out of them. Sanchez’s wages are going to complicate this and it may well be that all three are moved on to get back on top of our wages, but I hope it won’t come to that.

4) Identifying and convincing signings. I don’t think United require a massive amount. A few elite players will make a big difference in raising the performance and outlook of the squad. A right back and a defensive, holding midfielder have to be the priorities. We cannot enter next season without them. We will likely want a player to play on the right wing or right side of our attack too. Top players in those positions would make a good summer, but identifying them is tough enough, nevermind the competition to convince them to come here. The key is that a few, elite players would be better than more average signings.

5) Lack of sporting structure. It would be one thing for a new manager to come in and operate in an organised structure, but we don’t have a Director of Football still. Many of us were convinced that that appointment was more important than the manager to get right and it has still not been addressed. Until we get that right, all of our managers will continue to be undermined in the medium and long term. Oh, there’s also the fact that we may be looking for a new head of the academy in the weeks and months to follow.

Edit: Error

Given the piss poor team selections, subs, and tactics, and the fact he's extended the contracts of Young, Jones, offered Mata a new contract, and told Rojo he wants him to stay, I can't say my expectations are high for next season.

That is a very very negative way of looking into next season, Ole has made few mistakes in his short tenure so far but he’s also done few things right. You can only mould bang average players so much.

We have a pretty massive summer on our hands, both Liverpool and City are in with a genuine chance of winning 2 biggest prizes. Not to mention one of Arse/Chelsea would probably win the EL. If we feck around again, forget closing the gap to Top 2 we’ll fall behind the teams we’d be competing against.

Ole's at the wheel

Made the appointment too soon. I said in in February on here that we should wait til April, dont know why we had to rush this decision. Woody is a disaster. The club is run by idiots, shambles. I dont blame Ole directly, he got into a position that he has no business being in. We also dont make it easy for him.

The right move would have been a back 3 with Lindelöf man marking Messi, or Dalot at RB if he really wanted a back 4

Like Dalot has been superb lately. He's far from ready. I do think Ole was too agressive with his lineup though.

one thing is for sure

given the individual performances of some of the players over the last 4/5 weeks there is 0% chance anyone could be going into the transfer window thinking that this squad is anywhere near good enough

Solskjaer has intimated himself that it is dog eat dog and players will need to step up to survive. I've no issue with his approach tonight, similar to other games we lost against Wolves, Arsenal where we missed early opportunities

we desperately need about 5 new starters - he needs to be backed - we've been banging on about it for years

youd take about 3 of those Ajax players in a heartbeat - just a shame we missed out on De Jong - with the right backing we will be a force again

I'm not going to blame Ole for anything but team selection, subs and tactics. He's inherited a team in a bad place half way through so that has to be taken into account.

We keep failing to clear out deadwood and probably fix the squad then blame the manager when bad signings don't work out and the deadwood are still deadwood. I just hope the board don't do the same to Ole.

Saying that Ole has got it wrong recently in all the categories i mentioned. Might not have made a difference anyway but he needs to learn quick. Go back to whats worked rather than copying Jose.

Mistake to give him the full time job. Should've been poch

I'm sure potch would have seen off barca tonight with that 11 out on the pitch.( with rashford missing that chance and Dave chucking one in his own net)

This club is horribly run by Woodward and co.

They've ruined all of SAF's extraordinary work.

Ole deserves a decent transfer window, but I have concerns.

Time after time Young is getting games despite continuously being a 1/10 player. He can't defend, cross or even pass.

Players are playing out of position, why is Jones RB instead of Dalot to begin with?

Why do we keep persisting with players out of form. Why not try youth, or anything different?

To be fair Ole has tried a few things and it seems whatever he tries we are still poor, so I think the squad requires serious work no matter who the manager is.

What I don't get is where he managed to get us flowing to perfection to begin with and suddenly useless game after game.

Surely the manager bounce can't be the only reason.

Nope. That 110% correct. Expected return. The probable given avg. return is higher for Poch given that he has successfully spent well.

And no, I did not invent the methodology.

The delusional knee-jerk defensiveness around these parts is something else :wenger: .

Get back to me at the end of the season.

Putting hindsight on a side and mentioning some other players but him picking Young is again on him and him onlyt. Also, dont bother with "who else" nonsense. On top of it, he gave him contract extension so yay for that and no, he is not good enough even to be a squad player next season.

The big question here is.

Was there an actual proper process to hire the manager, as we said we would.

Did we sound out others? If not I'd be very worried.

Once again, how much had Ole spent? Which players had he bought?

You really are delusional if you think Ole has singed anyone.

I was laughed at for suggesting Ten Haag, but I still think Solskjaer was the right choice given the circumstances and I have faith in him and particularly the management team alongside him. We're not good enough as a squad but give the guy a chance to bring in some of his own players and let's see where he can take us. A decent window and setting a real identity would be a good start. I hope we can phase out Matic and Young as soon as possible

It seems to be just that. It just lasted exceptionnaly long

Marco Rose and Poch, many tiers 1 journalist reported we were in for them.

These things have nothing to do with Jose or "next transfer window". These things are pure proof how good tactician he is.
1) played Young who is out of form. Pick Darmian or Rojo. Are they better? Who knows but try
2) The one thing which looks decent is Mike and Lindelof as central pair. Why to brake them? If you want to play Jones, put him on the right. Or put Darmian. He put central defender (Bailly) on the right against Psg which cost us. He did it again.
3) Lukaku on the bench
4) Lingard on the pitch

His team selections are all over the place

I tend to disagree. Oles approach then was all about pressing and high pressure and we moved away from it. Maybe due to injuries and intensity etc.

To me this has been part of the issue in our drop in form.

How can we be optimistic when he gave Young and Jones a new contract?

Does that really show enough ambition? What's going to change when you keep the same dross year afyer year.

I’d guarantee we didn’t. This was always the risk with an interim manager, especially one as loved as Solskjær, if he did well you almost have to give him the job regardless of whether he’s the best man for it or not. If you don’t and it goes wrong then you’re screwed. Solskjaer wasn’t the best manager we could get but time will tell if he was the right one. The squad is shit so I can’t blame him for recent performances but the problem is that we’re now in a worse run of form than any we had under Mourinho and a few more tough games to come.

He deserves at least a season with some of his own signings but there are legitimate reasons to be concerned with the decision makers in our club. It’s always the easy way out.

One criticism I have of Ole is, he keeps trying this Lingard through the middle and Rash & Martial on either flank thing. How many times has it worked? Can't remember a game where Lingard was good playing that position.

Smashley will be on the bench every week next season and won't be getting another extension. I think it is pretty obvious that the extensions handed around at the start of the year were decided by Woodward and not Ole as at that point he was no sure thing to get the job and Ed seems to think wasting millions on a new contract is a better investment than letting a crap player leave on a free.

I am not going to lose faith in Ole at this point as I have seen some tactical moves and creative thinking that make me believe he can be effective once he gets a proper pre-season and is able to change up the squad. Results have been poor lately but the caliber of opposition has been pretty good in most of these games and we have not had much luck, Shaw scoring an own goal, Busquets committing half a dozen bookable offences and staying on the field etc.

I am hopeful that following his recent comments Ole is going to be ruthless about moving people on in the summer and given the backing to do that and bring in the right kind of players I think he can do the job. If he gets the money and builds his team and fails then I won't be making excuses for him but I am also not going to bury him before he has had a chance to do anything either. Getting back to title winning level is going to be a 3 or 4 year job at least and knee jerk reactions and constantly changing course won't make it happen any faster.
