If fairness to Ole, what are the alternatives to Young?

If he’s still skipper and first name on the team sheet next year that’s different but at the moment, I can understand him starting.

Have to say it again. Giving him a job after 15 games is incredibly short-sighted by the board.
Let's pray Ed Woodward at least has some self-respect and doesn't back out with his stupid decision now and give Ole all the money in the summer.

We generally stump up some cash when we miss out on CL qualification, as is looking very likely.

Ole will have money to spend - whether we spend it wisely or not is a different matter, obviously.

This is not Ole's fault. We've been garbage and toothless against Spanish teams (notably Barcelona) since the Ferguson days. That's gonna take time to fix. I'm still convinced that Solskjaer is the right man to take us forward. I like his style of face paced, counter attacking football.

Very very calculated ,crafty move by Woodward giving ole the job, the board know us fans want Ole to do well and that us fans will never turn on ole and make it a toxic atmosphere like we would with other managers , crafty slimy little weasel running the footballing side of things atrociously

He doesn't have the calibre of player that's needed to compete at this level.

Granted, the obsession with Young is his fault.

I'll give Ole the summer and hopefully he's as ruthless as Sir Alex, if not; -- it'll be the end of him. I guess we'll have to see.

I know people will point to the x number of defeats in x number of games... but look who he’s had to play

Wolves away twice(!) where even City and Liverpool struggled like feck

Arsenal away which is still a tough ask

And Barcelona home and away who are a way better team

Three of those games were cup draws too and OGS has had hideous draw luck in his short time here. Klopp draws the weakest team in the Champions League quarters and Guardiolas had the easiest run to an FA Cup Final I’ve ever seen. Every games been like a cup final almost since he came here. The league games are just to keep up the hope of being 4th and the cup draws have been against the toughest opposition available.

In the overall scheme of things this is no biggie. Ole had an unprecedented start & the law of average eventually had to catch up. We got extremely lucky against PSG and have done well in the league. The only real disappoint so far has been the loss to Wolves in the FA cup. Ole is squeezing the max out of this menagerie of total shitehawks.

The only worry for me is that we haven't seen a clear pattern of play emerge till now. Usually you expect a manager to implement some of his identity after 4-5 months in-charge. Hopefully, we start seeing it next season after Ole has had a good window.

Bumping this thread after we lose to Barcelona in CL quarter finals is redcafe's peak.

Dalot. Darmian. Rojo.

Literally anyone in our squad would be better than a player who costs us goals nearly every single time he plays.

Barcelona has better players than United. Ole is not a miracle worker.
I don't know man, trusting young to play in the form he is in when Dalot can start is miracle-levels for me.

Apart from that, he's done a positive miracle on our results.

All we are now is a commercial enterprise. We will sign players to sell shirts rather than for the good of the TEAM. Solskjaer will be a yes man that will probably be sacked for not getting 4th in 2 years time. What tonight is proving me, the likes of Rashford, lingard, martial are fringe players and nothing else! We are miles behind the elite. And goes to show perhaps, Mourinho was right.

Not one of them has shown enough quality over the course of the season to suggest they would be a better alternative.

Ole is stuck with Young just as much as we are - for the time being anyway.

People are putting far too much into the "Miracle of Paris", true we knocked out PSG, which is what mattered in the end, but the reality of the situation is that we were mostly awful, we scored from a penalty, a Buffon error, and a defender error, that's how we got through, we got a lot of luck. This Barca match is truly showing our team for the average mass of players it is, and i'll be honest and say i wasn't 100% behind the Ole appointment either, but, he needs to be given a chance with some actual good players.

Sorry but what good is experience if the player in question has absolutely no ability to play football?
I am sorry but until this season, a lot in here considered Young to be one of the better full backs in the league. If we had a great alternative waiting in the wings I would understand people’s frustration. As it is, it seems that people are moaning just because its what they have become used to these days.
The reality is that we started both the matches well and were undone by GOAT quality. Its Barcelona, we were never favourites for going through. Even one of Fergie’s best sides came undone on 2 occasions and in both cases we were played off the park. If we were to analyse those games, I am sure we could question the selections that Fergie made on those days

None of them has shown enough quality to suggest they are good enough for the long term no, but vs. Young? He is as bad a player as i've ever seen in a United shirt.

Don't think anyone is saying we should get rid. But to ignore 5 defeats in 7 and the way we've been dispatched lately is naive. His team selection and tactics have been awful. His substitutions are even worse. It's not all on the players. Young doesn't pick himself.

Don't waste your time. Poch or Zidane would have won all 5 with this team.

Dalot maybe but the other 2, not a chance. Young is a better bet than those and should be in the side before them both.

Would have we been here under Mourinho? Probably, probably not. No one cares. We ave Ole now and we have to get behind him in tough times. People need to realize this is not Football Manager or FIFA, this is real life. Managers need time, especially when appointed in the middle of the season. Also, you can't just sell 7-8 of your players, replace them with marquee signings such as Varane, SMS, Alex Sandro and many, many others and expect the new bunch to instantly start performing.

Give. The man. Time. Right choice or not, we'll see in an year or two. Until then, give him the support he deserves and, most of all, needs.

I said it all along, as did many on here. The most moronic decision since appointing Moyes.

Why on earth give him the job and not wait until the end of the season and see how he has done?? He was never going to take another job was he?

This is not kneejerk but I think we may have to get rid and get poch in, whatever it costs.
Otherwise we are going through the motions for another crap season just to save face and say we have ole time etc

You write this is not kneejerk and then go on a complete kneejerk. Congrats.

The absolute state of this post!

To be fair to Ole . His tactics have been mostly spot on for most of the matches even in defeats but his players have let him down . But having said that his subs have been awful mostly . Honestly this is not a internship job so he needs to be ruthless in the transfer window and make a young fast attacking team for next season .

Winning the CL was a pipedream this season.
You guys complain so much, we are 6th in the league (table doesn't lie) and played and gone out to arguably the best team in Europe.
We all know the situation. We all knew the deficiencies before today.
Getting 4th after Jose would be a great salvage from this car crash of a season.

Pathetic from some of the people in the match day thread already asking for Ole to be sacked

The point is the alternatives are clearly no better - not enough to be an obvious replacement. It's the same as the Lingard situation, look at the alternatives to him starting tonight; Mata, Sanchez, Lukaku. Exactly.

The fact of the matter is our squad is not even remotely close to the standard required. Ole inherited these players, he is going to need time to fix the squad.

It's not Ole's fault as much as it wasn't Mourinho's fault. How many managers do we need to go through to realize it's the god damn players ?

Careful, you might upset people.

You really think Poch is going to do any better with these players who some can't string a few passes together or have totally lapse in concentration.

Let's back Ole through this transition period and it's going to be growing pains but if the board doesn't back Ole with his vision and the players he needs for his tactics, then we just going to rinse and repeat the same issue whoever is going to take us in charge.

My biggest issue is why we still play like we're managed by Mourinho. How has that not changed?
I dont think so. We're trying to play more positive and attacking but it isnt working. I'll get a ton of abuse but Jose was right on some things. Then again he did assemble this squad so didnt help himself at all.

Reading between the lines I’d say no one else was really available so we gave it full time to Ole before the end of the season.

Let’s not forget that Messi tore Spurs a new arsehole at Wembley this season too.
