He got his tactics absolutely spot on today. The best he can hope for is backhanded compliments of course.

Nothing wrong with Ole's tactics. Quite good in fact. I am not sure he is right man for long term but if he can get performances like that from team week in week out and we stay clear of injuries, we can still get something from season.
On the other hand, performances vs big teams is not our worry though. It is vs bottom teams where we need to create against packed defense and that's when he appears clueless. Anyway, today is not a day to blame him.

One of those games where a clean sheet in the second half justifies the approach, but a late goal leaves you struggling for obvious positives. Liverpool struggled to create good chances, but ultimately were going to be the only winners if the match continued.

Feels like we remain in purgatory, but the next four matches all being away and no away wins since Paris means we could well have a new manager by our next home game. Ole is going to have to win one of them surely. Can’t afford more dropped points against (fellow) bottom half sides and a cup exit to a rival thriving with youth under a legend whilst banned from the transfer market.

It cannot be solely down to personnel we're dropping so many points from winning positions.

For all the talking he does about the mentality, the knowing what the club is about and all those empty phrases he says its clear is just gargabe.

I don’t want to hear anyone say he gets what ManUtd its about, what he just done sitting back at old trafford shows he gets shit about this club. Should be sack immediately, waste of time. A legend as a player but a failure as a manager.

It was a tight game and our goal came from a foul
No it didn't, but if it makes you feel better to pretend it does then that's up to you. It's utterly astounding how stoically negative some posters are about our team. Does being wrong, even on occasion, frighten you that much?

One of our best performances under OGS. Doesn't do much to dispel the notion that we are just a defensive side that relies on pace on the counter attack and we don't do much beyond that, though.

Ole is decent at setting teams up in this sort of game. It's when we have the majority of the ball he runs out of ideas.

Still feel he should have made use of his subs, the team were out on their feet.

Can't believe the level of moaning after we were a few minutes away from beating the best team in the league and stopping their winning form
They are a miserable bunch. They may have good reason to want the manager out, but this game definitely isn't it.

It cannot be solely down to personnel we're dropping so many points from winning positions.

It's a mental thing, we score and then we relax and don't play nearly with the same focus to keep the ball, we surrender possession and therefore give a chance to the oppoent to create something

Better than I expected but the second half was out of the Moyes playbook, complete with conceding the late equaliser.

Norwich will be a truer test of where we are heading and our ability to create scoring opportunities.

How do you know this isn't how Ole wants us to play? Most of his games are exactly like this and we are absolutely awful going forward.

Ole plays like this since this season started. How the hell people know that he wants/knows to play attacking football. This is ridiculous now. I keep hearing on this forum how Ole is attacking coach and shit like that. How he is attacking coach? He plays cautios against minor teams ffs

Because it's not how he approached games when he first got here and if you listen to his interviews you'd know he wants us to take more risks and score more goals.

A few seasons ago we pulled off a draw at Anfield - a place where we NEVER play well - and José was universally crucified for it.

How times have changed indeed.
If I remember correctly, we were flying high before that game, dreaming of a title challenge with all the 4-0s, and we seemingly didn't even bother attacking despite scoring as many as City at that point.

So, it's a bit different here when we're talking about avoiding the relegation zone!

I'm extremely disappointed in him. Given his coaching merits he's been given an opportunity of a lifetime here and he's throwing it away. He should have used this as an opportunity to progress in his managerial career but he can't because at the end of the day he's just not good enough. No amount of time or players will ever change this fact. Horribly dull football, getting outplayed and failing to win many times even losing against absolute shit house teams, lackluster coaching, training regime that piles up injuries. There are far too many negatives around this guy as a coach.

It's 9 games in now and we are only 2 points better than Bruce's Newcastle. I'm not behind the idea of giving him more time as he's simply not up for the challenge. Once again the ineptitude of the ownership and Ed will cost us big because once again they are only delaying the inevitable. I'm completely certain Ole will be gone sooner or later and for the second year in a row we will have thrown away a season for absolutely nothing. Ole doesn't have what it takes at this level.

I'm not knocking him today, we were always up against it and a point is more than I expected. Bitterly disappointing way to squander 3pts and a soft, soft goal but whatever. This isn't the time to judge Ole, in my opinion. That time comes from here on out against teams Man United should be beating even with injuries. It'll be interesting to see how Ole and the boys respond for the next game.

You can't use the squad excuse when it's still a better squad than the teams I've named though - that's my point. You can't keep using the squad excuse when it doesn't always apply.
Its on how you define the squad I suppose.

If we had 20 mediocre first team players to rotate between, we would be winning against those sides.

We dont. We have 2 top ones. 4-5 good ones.. 4-5 mediocre ones.. some horrible ones and some kids.. and a lot of the better ones were out injured for that stretch of games.

I dont want us to swap squads with any of them.. of course not. But we dont have good enough players to come in for those matches.

I dont have any expectations from our second string.. and with 3-4 starters out injured, 3-4 backups play the big games.. and the ones coming in for the less important ones (Rochdale, AZ away.. Alkmar and AZ are the same side btw) are pretty bad.

Newcastle being the league was important.. Just rechecked the squad..

had our 3rd choice RB, second choice LB, our first choice CB was out so Tuanzebe started. Fred and Mata were playing. Rashford was playing despite not being fully fit. Rojo, Greenwood and Chong came on. Gomes, Williams and Matic were on the bench..

That is a terrible squad. That will struggle against any premier league side that plays together on a weekly basis.

The off-form team is also Ole's doing. It's not like he has had no hand in it. Frankly, if Ole wasn't the legend he was for us, this performance would have been crucified by the fans. Mourinho actually had us play slightly better offensively even when we parked the bus. The second half today was horrible to watch. Holding on to dear lives at home the entire second half.
Ole inherited most of this team from Mourinho except for the 3 signings he made. This is the same team with a "virus" inside..

Doesn't change the fact that it's a venue where we literally never play well. Aside from Juanfield, all our victories there that I can remember have been smash-and-grabs after being dominated for 90 minutes (i.e. O'Shea in 2007 and Tevez the following season).

It's a mental thing, we score and then we relax and don't play nearly with the same focus to keep the ball, we surrender possession and therefore give a chance to the oppoent to create something

It’s not so much we relax, just that we massively struggle to create chances and score goals. When we’re winning 1-0, every team knows they’re just one goal away from a result, so it gives them impetus. We have so much difficulty scoring goals, that’s the main issue. Every single goal we score is an effort. If we were free scoring then the problem would solve itself.

Ah, i was waiting for that "Ole said it" argument. Well, then Lovren is best defender in the world i guess.

Ole is full of shit. Guy came here with legendary status and with knowledge how fans turned against Jose because he moaned a lot. So from day one he is doing his PR stuff. Smile, everything is great, boys this boys that, speaking about old days and speaking everything what fans want to hear.
I don't care what he is saying. I care what we do on the pitch. And on the pitch our setup against any team is defensive and clueless.

When did common sense completely disappear? Jose's comments are spot on. Any fair minded person should be able to see that.

They were highly motivated, well set up and well drilled. It was a very professional commited performance.

We started with Young, Rojo, Fred and Pereira yet almost beat the European champions on a 17 game winning streak. Everyone said we'd get smashed 5-0 then they complain when we get an unlucky draw. I don't get it and I'm sick of trying to.

We matched them man for man for large periods of the game and deserved to win outright.

We didn't look like underdogs to me. Liverpool were lucky to escape with a point all things considered.

How weren't we underdogs? Did you watch the game and see how respective teams played? One was allowed to have the ball, while the other camped in their own half only to punt the ball forward when there was a turnover.

Double standards on this forum is what grinds me the most. What Ole did today was no different to Mourinho was doing in pretty much every big match, but he had the nous to pull 3 points off with his management. Yet, one was laid into by everyone including posters like you for playing like cowards. Now, you want the same set of fans to give Ole 'credit' for outwitting an away team on their own patch for 60 mins?

I'll take a point vs these lot given our state these days, but let's not pretend we're heading anywhere under him. He's very much a poor mans Mourinho but without his toxicity, and ultimately it's not good enough.

Hopefully, we can break this "1 goal wall" with Martial's return and reach 2 goals a game from time to time. You do make an excellent point, I just wondered if it wouldn't be better to improve the possession (albeit sideways passing) if we struggle for goals, this way we reduce our exposure.

I'm not disagreeing there, but we didn't even bother to attack in the game despite doing as well as City at that point, and, again, if I remember correctly, after said game we lost all our form. The result was never the problem; the way we set-up was. I'm not saying we should've dominated with 68% possession like Liverpool here, but some intent to actually score would've been nice.

Setting up like that now is more understandable because, quite frankly, we're atrocious, which is why there isn't as much criticism despite being at home, too.

Because it's not how he approached games when he first got here and if you listen to his interviews you'd know he wants us to take more risks and score more goals.
He talks a lot, does Ole. I can say basically the same things he does but I won't be able to coach the team to perform how I would like to see them. Does that mean I am also with a shout to become the manager of this team?

He just said that a point at home is nothing to celebrate about. He's much better than Moyes at least.

No it didn't, but if it makes you feel better to pretend it does then that's up to you. It's utterly astounding how stoically negative some posters are about our team. Does being wrong, even on occasion, frighten you that much?

Actually I had an argument with @kouroux were I said that to ole's credit our tactics were flawless today and he disagreed with it. However if that fits your narrative

I want him out, but credit where it's due - he did well today and we were unlucky not to get a win.

Ole inherited most of this team from Mourinho except for the 3 signings he made. This is the same team with a "virus" inside..
So Ole took a team which finished second and had won the EL prior to that season, signed three players and us playing awful football along with horrendous results.

I know our team isn't good enough to be PL champions but the way we played today second half was straight out of Mourinho's playbook. The one which we all dreaded seeing.

It's a mental thing, we score and then we relax and don't play nearly with the same focus to keep the ball, we surrender possession and therefore give a chance to the oppoent to create something
I am not sure its relaxing. I think we just get scared and try to keep what we have.. We panic. Stop looking for players and just start kicking out out and surrendering possession..

Being terribly low on confidence obviously doesnt help. We need to get a few wins to hopefully put things right..

A good run, doesnt matter how it comes.. a couple of scrappy 1-0 wins with us holding on will probably help them too.

Yeah, I'm the one with a narrative... You think backhanded compliments somehow balances it? Sure.

Exactly.

I have a good example when McTominay had control of a bouncing ball, nothing too tough I think but he still was pressed, he just needlessly booted it high and immediately lost it.
These little moments need to be handled better in order for the confidence to set itself.

At least it seems like he has really fixed our defensive mess. Not saying that he has done good tactical work in defense but Maguire and Wan-Bissaka are both really good. With and without the ball.

But midfield/offense is in terms of width just a bad joke. Our starting line up isn't too bad but i think we need to make a few of our starters squad players and replace them with top class starters. 2 in Midfield and at least 1 in attack. James/Rashford shouldn't be guaranteed starters when everybody is fit (one of them), in Midfield only Pogba should start with everybody being fit. DDG, Shaw, Maguire, Lindelöf/Tuanzebe, Wan-Bissaka, Pogba, Martial, James/Rashford. 8 starting spots imo, but need 3 more top class players.

You mean the team with the "virus" in it that Mourinho gave up on it before the start of last season?
Are you referring to Pogba with those constant "virus" reference? If so, are you trying to say he has such a sway that even when he isn't with the squad, we play like a team from League 1?

Celebrating a draw at OT against the scousers, go you. How times have changed.

I'm gutted we conceded with five minutes remaining, just like the rest of our fans, but I'm content in the fact that our lads showed a little fight and spirit this afternoon, rather than the effortless shitshow that has become the norm this season.

No. I m just quoting Mourinho. I don't know who the virus is cause i m not informed as Mourinho is.
