He got his tactics absolutely spot on today. The best he can hope for is backhanded compliments of course.
No it didn't, but if it makes you feel better to pretend it does then that's up to you. It's utterly astounding how stoically negative some posters are about our team. Does being wrong, even on occasion, frighten you that much?It was a tight game and our goal came from a foul
They are a miserable bunch. They may have good reason to want the manager out, but this game definitely isn't it.Can't believe the level of moaning after we were a few minutes away from beating the best team in the league and stopping their winning form
It cannot be solely down to personnel we're dropping so many points from winning positions.
How do you know this isn't how Ole wants us to play? Most of his games are exactly like this and we are absolutely awful going forward.
Ole plays like this since this season started. How the hell people know that he wants/knows to play attacking football. This is ridiculous now. I keep hearing on this forum how Ole is attacking coach and shit like that. How he is attacking coach? He plays cautios against minor teams ffs
You can't just enjoy ending Liverpool's winning streak?
If I remember correctly, we were flying high before that game, dreaming of a title challenge with all the 4-0s, and we seemingly didn't even bother attacking despite scoring as many as City at that point.A few seasons ago we pulled off a draw at Anfield - a place where we NEVER play well - and José was universally crucified for it.
How times have changed indeed.
Its on how you define the squad I suppose. You can't use the squad excuse when it's still a better squad than the teams I've named though - that's my point. You can't keep using the squad excuse when it doesn't always apply.
Ole inherited most of this team from Mourinho except for the 3 signings he made. This is the same team with a "virus" inside..The off-form team is also Ole's doing. It's not like he has had no hand in it. Frankly, if Ole wasn't the legend he was for us, this performance would have been crucified by the fans. Mourinho actually had us play slightly better offensively even when we parked the bus. The second half today was horrible to watch. Holding on to dear lives at home the entire second half.
Doesn't change the fact that it's a venue where we literally never play well. Aside from Juanfield, all our victories there that I can remember have been smash-and-grabs after being dominated for 90 minutes (i.e. O'Shea in 2007 and Tevez the following season). If I remember correctly, we were flying high before that game, dreaming of a title challenge with all the 4-0s, and we seemingly didn't even bother attacking despite scoring as many as City at that point.
So, it's a bit different here when we're talking about avoiding the relegation zone!
It's a mental thing, we score and then we relax and don't play nearly with the same focus to keep the ball, we surrender possession and therefore give a chance to the oppoent to create something
Ah, i was waiting for that "Ole said it" argument. Well, then Lovren is best defender in the world i guess.Because it's not how he approached games when he first got here and if you listen to his interviews you'd know he wants us to take more risks and score more goals.
We matched them man for man for large periods of the game and deserved to win outright.
We didn't look like underdogs to me. Liverpool were lucky to escape with a point all things considered.
Hopefully, we can break this "1 goal wall" with Martial's return and reach 2 goals a game from time to time. You do make an excellent point, I just wondered if it wouldn't be better to improve the possession (albeit sideways passing) if we struggle for goals, this way we reduce our exposure. It’s not so much we relax, just that we massively struggle to create chances and score goals. When we’re winning 1-0, every team knows they’re just one goal away from a result, so it gives them impetus. We have so much difficulty scoring goals, that’s the main issue. Every single goal we score is an effort. If we were free scoring then the problem would solve itself.
I'm not disagreeing there, but we didn't even bother to attack in the game despite doing as well as City at that point, and, again, if I remember correctly, after said game we lost all our form. The result was never the problem; the way we set-up was. I'm not saying we should've dominated with 68% possession like Liverpool here, but some intent to actually score would've been nice.Doesn't change the fact that it's a venue where we literally never play well. Aside from Juanfield, all our victories there that I can remember have been smash-and-grabs after being dominated for 90 minutes (i.e. O'Shea in 2007 and Tevez the following season).
He talks a lot, does Ole. I can say basically the same things he does but I won't be able to coach the team to perform how I would like to see them. Does that mean I am also with a shout to become the manager of this team?Because it's not how he approached games when he first got here and if you listen to his interviews you'd know he wants us to take more risks and score more goals.
No it didn't, but if it makes you feel better to pretend it does then that's up to you. It's utterly astounding how stoically negative some posters are about our team. Does being wrong, even on occasion, frighten you that much?
So Ole took a team which finished second and had won the EL prior to that season, signed three players and us playing awful football along with horrendous results.Ole inherited most of this team from Mourinho except for the 3 signings he made. This is the same team with a "virus" inside..
I am not sure its relaxing. I think we just get scared and try to keep what we have.. We panic. Stop looking for players and just start kicking out out and surrendering possession..It's a mental thing, we score and then we relax and don't play nearly with the same focus to keep the ball, we surrender possession and therefore give a chance to the oppoent to create something
Yeah, I'm the one with a narrative... You think backhanded compliments somehow balances it? Sure.Actually I had an argument with @kouroux were I said that to ole's credit our tactics were flawless today and he disagreed with it. However if that fits your narrative
Exactly. Its on how you define the squad I suppose.
If we had 20 mediocre first team players to rotate between, we would be winning against those sides.
We dont. We have 2 top ones. 4-5 good ones.. 4-5 mediocre ones.. some horrible ones and some kids.. and a lot of the better ones were out injured for that stretch of games.
I dont want us to swap squads with any of them.. of course not. But we dont have good enough players to come in for those matches.
I dont have any expectations from our second string.. and with 3-4 starters out injured, 3-4 backups play the big games.. and the ones coming in for the less important ones (Rochdale, AZ away.. Alkmar and AZ are the same side btw) are pretty bad.
Newcastle being the league was important.. Just rechecked the squad..
had our 3rd choice RB, second choice LB, our first choice CB was out so Tuanzebe started. Fred and Mata were playing. Rashford was playing despite not being fully fit. Rojo, Greenwood and Chong came on. Gomes, Williams and Matic were on the bench..
That is a terrible squad. That will struggle against any premier league side that plays together on a weekly basis.
You mean the team with the "virus" in it that Mourinho gave up on it before the start of last season? So Ole took a team which finished second and had won the EL prior to that season, signed three players and us playing awful football along with horrendous results.
I know our team isn't good enough to be PL champions but the way we played today second half was straight out of Mourinho's playbook. The one which we all dreaded seeing.
I have a good example when McTominay had control of a bouncing ball, nothing too tough I think but he still was pressed, he just needlessly booted it high and immediately lost it.I am not sure its relaxing. I think we just get scared and try to keep what we have.. We panic. Stop looking for players and just start kicking out out and surrendering possession..
Being terribly low on confidence obviously doesnt help. We need to get a few wins to hopefully put things right..
A good run, doesnt matter how it comes.. a couple of scrappy 1-0 wins with us holding on will probably help them too.
Are you referring to Pogba with those constant "virus" reference? If so, are you trying to say he has such a sway that even when he isn't with the squad, we play like a team from League 1?You mean the team with the "virus" in it that Mourinho gave up on it before the start of last season?
Celebrating a draw at OT against the scousers, go you. How times have changed.
No. I m just quoting Mourinho. I don't know who the virus is cause i m not informed as Mourinho is.Are you referring to Pogba with those constant "virus" reference? If so, are you trying to say he has such a sway that even when he isn't with the squad, we play like a team from League 1?
