If we buy Van Dijk, Ronaldo, Haaland, Messi, Kante, Sancho, we might win the PL.

I think it is just context.

We have not finished back to back seasons in top 4 since 2012-2013. If Ole does that this season, it is progress.

If the board then don't invest after that to kick on, they are achieving their target which is top 4 every season, with not enough ambition to challenge for the league.
Is this a new thing. New achievements being created everyday (did not exist before) to elevate Ole.

This whole how can we expect to challenge City with their gargantuan spending is farcical. City have had the same owners and spending policy whilst Leicester, Chelsea and Liverpool have all gone on to win the league. Oh, and we also won the league whilst City had the Sheikh.

Why is this argument becoming so fashionable now that Ole’s weaknesses are being exposed? It’s baffling. We’ve spent a shed load on this current squad. Certainly more than the Liverpool, Chelsea and Leicester squads who won the title.

How can Bruno be our hardest working mid and leading scorer? Bonkers and a sad indictment of our strikers. Rashford 9 prem goals. Way off the pace of a leading striker. Maybe maguire and the boys aren’t the real villains here.......

It will be funny in a way (although mostly frustrating) if we win tomorrow, but bottles all titles. Terrible when it matters mentally, but can beat anyone when noone think we will have a chance.

Leicester is above us. Everton has two games less. Chelsea has momentum. Of course this is under the assumption that we won't win tomorrow.

Some managers don't handle the day-to-day coaching of stuff like that. Fergie didn't, and Ole has already said he doesn't. They bring in other coaches and assistants to handle that.

The key is the manager has to set an over-riding plan and style, and then bring in the right coaches to achieve that. That's where the question mark is as the coaches we have are all very young and unproven at that aspect, and we aren't seeing much evidence towards improvement on the field.
Surely thats on the manager to sack them and get experienced coaches in then, not just hope one day they will suddenly know how to coach actual tactics and a plan of attack.

Our most experienced coach at the club is Marcel Bout and he's the head of global scouting.

Whatever happened to that fella who came to us from Canada as a coach who's only claim to fame was he talked to Bielsa for 15 minutes?

Knowing us we'll probably raise our game massively tomorrow to regain the 2nd place trophy.

Martyn Pert was brought in as the strength and conditioning specialist to ease our injury woes and it seems he's doing a good job.

I’m fully expecting us to. I’m actually not worried about the upcoming tough run of games at all, because we usually clutch up and pull results out the bag when we’re not expected to. It’s the games where we get complacent that trip us up.

We’ll be fine for top four when you do the predictor so not too worried there, hard to say there’s been any progress though in last 3 years when we look very likely to end up on similar points and with a similar amount of wins for the 3rd season running.
Treading water somewhat. Looked promising for a short while too.

Yeah that's him, cheers. The joke is coming back now on how we've pert butt on the team. Have to admit we have improved on the injury side.

Anyone who doesn’t hold the typical “top red” blind optimism, borderline deluded view about Ole & the way the club is being run is met with some pretty nasty abuse on this forum. I’ve noticed it for a while. If you don’t think Ole is the man or Rashford is world class or point out the clear deficiencies in Bruno’s overall game then you’re branded an idiot & you don’t deserve an opinion. TopRedCafe.

A long post on the assumption we are second. The truth is we are not going to be near second in 3 weeks time. After the Derby tomorrow we still need to play Spurs, Liverpool, Westham and Leicester.

Without jumping on any bandwagons, I just realised....

1: We're top of the league (Jan 2021)
2: We're top scorers in the league (Feb 2021)
3: We're second in the league (Mar 2021)
...

Unfortunately if Ole does a good enough job to put us in a position to push on and maybe purchase the players we want, he'll keep his job.

I'd love for us to make a pro-active decision and get top 4, bring in a big player AND bring in a new manager to take us to the next level.

If we buy Van Dijk, Ronaldo, Haaland, Messi, Kante, Sancho, we might win the PL.

No these are not quotes from RAWK’s Man United thread about how shit we are, they’re just United fans on a United forum excited for the Derby! Why would anyone possibly think otherwise? Definitely Man United fans who sound absolutely nothing like the Scousers I know at work.

Do not disagree or you’ll be called the dreaded “top red”

If you’re a “top red” you’re not as good of a fan as them, they know what’s really going on. They’re just making a stand against the Glazers and mediocrity by obsessively writing thousands of posts slandering Ole and because they have standards and you don’t.

If you disagree, well then you’re obviously a deluded cult member.

There's nothing wrong in neither my post nor the majority of these you have quoted.

What a drama queen.

I have been a United fan since 1967. Even in the old second division. When did you start supporting United? Or you are an Ole fan?

Good for you, I didn’t start or chose to support United, I never had a choice, my dad watched United in the old second division too just like my Grandad.

Am I a fan of Ole? Yeah, why wouldn’t I be?

Reading the last few pages of this thread definitely sounded like certain rival fans I know, I mean the 2nd place trophy! Amazing.

Jose 2nd even coming off a EL win but still.

It's all about the manager. If he's loved It's progress. If he's Jose It's regression.

That should be the case, yes. If Ole is in command of what coaches we hire and what their overall goal is, failure in that aspect does ultimately come back on him. So I'm not excusing him of guilt in the aspect, just that it's not as direct as the guy I was responding to said.

I do wonder if hiring the coaches is set up like our transfers are now though, where a committee of people decide on it rather than just the manager himself. I hope not as that is forcing the manager to work with one hand tied behind his back.

It's only progress if we improve our style of play, performances and results while achieving back to back top four finishes. The first two certainly haven't improved at all on last season. Results very much hanging in the balance right now.

And if we get dragged into any sort of top four dogfight over the last 10 games of the season, having been top of the table and 7 points clear of the top four fight on gameweek 20, then it's representative of nothing other than a newly developed culture of bottling it, having zero consistency and having long barren periods at crucial times again and again season after season.

This idea that we have bottled it is absolute shite. Our best first team players are good and can just about challenge, but the backup players are nowhere near that standard.

In the context of the most congested fixture list in the history of the league.

Our first team players are fatigued not bottlers.

Nb. Although the jury is out on Maguire and our CBs.

I think you have a complex about Jose. :D

Him finishing 2nd was not a badge of shame, it was our first season of progression in a long time. I was optimistic at that stage.

The problem with Jose is that he imploded immediately after that season. Admittedly, that was because the board didn't match his ambition and didn't back him. Which sadly looks like its happening again.

But Jose has long gone, and he does not look like the manager he was in the early noughties. He is irrelevant now.

What are you on about?

My comment could not be misconstrued and made to look like RAWK.

I was Ole in for a long time, and to be honest I still think he could do a good job, my problem is, as is almost always the case, we won't contemplate a change that could take us to the next step when we are doing OK/well. We'll only get another manager when(if) it falls apart, meaning whoever comes in has a job twice as difficult that will take twice as long. City got Pep when they were still very strong, for example.

Our team is the Ferrari of counter attacking.
We're great at it, but when teams defend deeper, which is starting to happen, we cannot deal with it.
We're trained one way and if it doesn't work we have no plan B.

Technically, I'd say Bruno and Pogba are the only players who can pick out passes, whether long or short, and even then, it depends on which Pogba turns up.

Up front with the likes of Martial, Rashford, James and Greenwood, they want space to run into. When it comes to tight spaces, were intricate passes are required, we just do not have the personnel.

This was the reason we won so many pens, even in these tighter spaces we tried to run through them. They've dried up now as well, so here we are, back to a 6month patch were Ole doesn't have a clue what to do

And my post was wrong precisely where?

That's right. It was factual and accurate at the time. However, I note we're now third in the league, so point (3) needs updating.

What, exactly, was the point of your post? That people shouldn't have opinions on an Internet forum? That they shouldn't post things you don't like? That they shouldn't post things you don't like the day before a derby match?

Or is it that you don't like people calling you "top red" as a way of shutting down a debate without addressing any of the points you make? That would be ironic, wouldn't it?

Lose or draw today and his Premier League win rate for his 2 full time seasons in charge is 48%, incredibly that's the worst since SAF.

Include his honeymoon period and that bumps him up to level with Moyes on 50%.

Shit, I kinda wish I hadn't posted that, I'm gonna regret it aren't I? :nervous:

Yes as a manager you should be able to do that . If he hasn't got that he is just a glorified coach himself.

Will be interesting to see if he bottles top 4

No it won't be interesting. It'll be incredibly disappointing for everybody connected to the club. Try to sound less as though its something you want to happen

You talk about having a nuanced debate then don’t answer my question as to whether you only have a problem with people who are new to the forum?

It seems you only have a problem with newbies who like Solskjaer, like I said you haven’t criticised any of the long time members who’ve compared people who think Ole’s doing a good job to “deluded trump supporters” and “cult members” no answer for this? I’m on 5 posts a day because I’ve been on this forum a month and already have 5 likes, well on the way to becoming a god mode full member. I’ll even be able to post a lot in the gaming section like you soon, anyway let’s not turn this into a debate about how many likes I have on a football forum. I thought you wanted a nuanced debate?

The idea that newbies have somehow lowered the quality of posting on this thread is hilarious when there’s many long time posters on this thread who have said far far worse than me (none of which you’ve criticised).

Really creepy post this.

Seeing as you've been going through my post history I'm sure you've seen me get into debates constantly with long standing members.

Newbie or not, bullshit, agenda driven posting needs to be called out. Exactly what I did to you. I've noticed you a few times now, and I don't think I've ever seen you contribute to a discussion.

For example

Like I said you'll be stuck on your 5 posts a day for a while if that is the sum total of your contribution. Nothing wrong with having a different view, infact this place would be boring if we all agreed, but you seem to struggle interacting with people you disagree with.

It doesn't make for good reading when you lay it out like that, but only 5 teams have a 50% or better win rate this season so far and it may well end up finishing with less than that. 2 of those 5 have had no European football to cram into the fixture list. This is not a great season to be padding the win % column
