They can't even fix the bloody roof and they expect us to believe that they - an American group that have had it drilled into them by their NFL experiences that you can simply whore out the franchise name to whichever city is willing to build you a new stadium with taxpayers money - are suddenly going to reach into their own pockets?

Either the Head of Social Engagement has found rising dissidence against the team forming or they plan to do something really dodgy in the near future and want some good publicity.

I was going to say the same. They would have costed all possible ways of doing it and a full rebuild further from the rail line must have worked out better and maybe a bit cheaper. Just hope it's true.

Fair enough, that’s a good thought. I could absolutely see them trying to secure investment for a new stadium. As you say either from the council or maybe some kind of sponsor. It’s just got to the stage with them that I just don’t believe a word they say anymore, only actions will do for me at this point.

I guess a lot of my scepticism comes from me believing that they want out but just can’t sell the club for what they want. Perhaps the old stadium is scaring away buyers though. That could be a possible motivation to renew it. Time will tell I suppose..

If the Glazers tear the place down it will be an absolute disgrace.
 
As well as the railway, wasn't there something to do with the water table or something? Only fecking table we're topping at this time...
 
If OT was rebuilt on the current site with an acknowledgement to the history of the current stadium incorporated into the build, I don't think I'd have a problem. I've seen OT change so much over the last 30 years.

Honestly, it should be rebuilt stand by stand. As a ground its starting to look and feel very tired. However, closing entire stands for long periods to allow them to be rebuilt will probably be unthinkable to the ownership.

All that being said it'd be nice to see our women and youth set up have a real stadium to play in.

Have you ever been to Leigh Sports Village? It's a very nice, fully covered 12,000 capacity stadium, fully seated in three of the four stands, where the Women, u-23 and u-19 teams play. It's a modern stadium, built in 2008.
 
Why would anyone support knocking OT down and starting from scratch? Feck the likes of Spurs and their flashy shit

Only way I'd support knocking down OT is if the club does it for a charitable sake to put us all out of our misery watching the shite we do every week while our two biggest rivals compete for the title every fecking year
 
Wonder what the new name will be if they rebuild. No way in hell they'll reject a sponsor.
 
Yeah knock, it down. Get rid of that damn awful third tier, remove the rail track issue once and for all, get some decent screens and up the capacity to 85-90K. Make United the hub of the North.

I have heard this story too many times but I reckon we might actually see some action this time around, the least they can do is refurb the concourse areas and sort out some of the issues around the stadium.

If they are sticking around then building a new ground is good business call, they will rinse it and make their money back, just look at what Spurs have managed to do.
 
The article about this in the Telegraph has an aerial photo of the area, showing the current stadium and a superimposed graphic of the proposed new stadium alongside.
Its location is to the west and much further away from the railway line. Partly on the site of the rail freight terminal, next door.

They say the plan is supposed to allow OT to continue in use, until Utd are ready to move next door into the new stadium.
A smaller stadium is proposed to be built on the OT site, presumably for the U-23’s, Women’s team and other sporting events.
You can bet more of the released land will see further redevelopment to help pay for the whole project.
They won’t be just building a new stadium in isolation. It’ll be the largest part of a bigger overall project.
 
As much as I know Old Trafford needs major works to bring it in line with the modern game, I would feel very reluctant to see it demolished.

Although, in the unlikely event that the Glazers actually wanted to invest properly in the club, then I would imagine we could build a new stadium just behind Old Trafford and not have to move to an alaternative venue in between moves.
 
Hard to even consider this given the Glazers' history of lying. Until some action is taken, I won't hold my breath.

My mum used to get it at the market. It came wrapped in wax paper. She used to toast it and spread it with home-made tomato pickle.
 
I know the train track is an issue, but can they not build downwards and increase capacity by lowering the pitch.

Barcelona did it in the past as have others.
 
Without reading, how many people are still throwing out the “train line” argument? This is a total myth with modern construction methods and materials.
The train line is no issue at all.
 
I’m conflicted in this, as a construction professional a new stadium is a fecking dream for me. But I love OT and the history. If they do build a new stadium, it needs to be a full on United village, pubs, bars, etc and proper state of the art concourse facilities.
 
Tear down OT? I hope that's a joke. If such thing ever happened they should just expand the arena, why the feck tear down an arena with such rich history?

I think new stadiums ruin clubs, the traditional aspect goes out the window and the atmosphere is never as good as it used to be.
 
Another option is to extend the south stand, take off the roof of the stadium and re-skin it to give a more modern look.

I honestly think they'll look at the revenue that can be generated with in built restaurants, bars, etc, and look to build a new stadium.
 
It’s time to go fully modern/stadium and logistics/ training and recovery facilities/scouting/sports science/recruitment/youth and ladies teams. We are a huge huge club. Top 3 in the world for revenue. The growth potential at a watershed moment in the game in England should be a major opportunity and we really need to capitalise before smaller clubs start passing us out further than they already have.
