Old Trafford extension

Shall I register and spread the gospel?

You can do. A lot of my posts in here have taken info from over there and vice-versa.

Good job, M.

I think the latest artist's impression is right. The wall is wide at both sides and it thins out in the middle. Which makes me think Aidan's theory's wrong. And you can see the little part that's at the same level of the North Stand. They did this because the raised part of the struture would've caused the seats next to the North stand to have obscured views. If that make sense.

Yup, there's certainly more to it than my initial theory! Weird how the seats creep up then suddenly drop away again just before the North stand. It basically all looks pretty higgeldy piggeldy (I wonder if that's how that's spelt?).
My new theory is that the architects, artist, foremen and everybody involved are on a powerful cocktail of hallucinogenics, and we should all thank our lucky stars that we have a useable extension at all, even if it does look weird and shit...

That concrete wall thing will become exec lounges and sportsbars, with glass fronts so, wont look as bad.

I definitely don't go along with this one. Why / How build massive concrete walls, and then knock windows through them? Mind you, bearing in mind my new theory (above), you could just be right...

Looking at the plans for the new exec lounges they have to go somewhere, and the walls which do look quite temporary could easily be replaced by the windows. The lounges also supposedly open out onto the seats in front as well.

I see a white concrete wall!

I thought we'd already established that whoever made that image didn't have a clue what he was doing? Just wondering where the exec lounges face out onto.

This is all we have, showing no new boxes, rather a load of hospitality suites.

You don't build a concrete wall and then make holes in it for windows.

Is the wall a funny shape?

or is it the seats looking at that picture it look s to me as though the seat rows are not all the same length
Something like
-----
------------
---------------------
--------------------------

this sort of effect making the wall look a strange shape

on the computer aided vid that I was looking at this morning the wall also looked exactly the same as it does in the picture

I can't see any logical reason why they've done it, the way they have. It's a fecking mess.

as far as i know, the new executive boxes and suites are not where the concrete wall is, whoever said that (Stretford End Flags?) is mistaken. The new facilities are just where the old boxes were, with the ceilings raised. If you read a lot of the stuff about the new lounges etc it says you take your seat outside of the boxes. Therefore, in the seating area below the concrete wall. There are two holes in the concrete wall that allow access from the lounge areas and this part of the ground will have padded seats with cup holders (!!!)....big wow, a cup holder for £10k a season!!

I was having a butchers on that forum Weaste linked, and a bloke on their reckons the bottom half is for exec seating, and for this reason has wider steps, which is why it looks the way it does.(the way the wall goes wide than thins out and finally becoming wide again)

Possible.

From the pics on the official site, it's only Executive Boxes and "Super Suites" that have a view of the pitch. The latter of these looks suspiciously like a double sized executive box. They all have weird curvey ceilings, which fits with being the ones you can see on Weaste's plan above.
Anybody been in any of the existing boxes shed any light? Wheres AEBM when you need him?

The view i've seen from the new suites must be looking out on to the car parks then rather than the pitch then. Not sure if the picture looks worse or better than it will be because of the fish eye cam its using.

Lovely, its as cozy as any Holiday Inn I've ever stayed at. Those walnut finished laminates are tremendous, I know I just can't wait to use em.

I'll take some pics tomorrow from tier 3...should get some better ideas from up there how it fits together...

Good pictures those. You can see on them, that there's no reason for that wall. I think the bloke on Weastedevil's forum is right that the bottom half has wider steps, for exec seats.(hence the the wall, as the bottom half is has a different gradient)

the gables are down on the East Stand side now...

apologies for the shite camera work, I had the shakes...
