Manchester United line up surprise move for Dutchman

Quite often in the Football Transfer Tavern we have to take some speculation with a pinch of salt and a story emerging from Italy this evening appears to be one of those instances.

According to Italian source Calcio Mercato, Manchester United are lining up a surprise move for Galatasaray midfielder Wesley Sneijder as David Moyes seeks a marquee midfield signing before the transfer window closes on September 2nd.

Sneijder was a long-term target for former United manager Sir Alex Ferguson and he has now revived his career in Turkey after struggling towards the end of his spell in Serie A with Inter Milan.

The 29-year-old made the switch to Istanbul back in January in a £6 million cut price deal and impressed leading his new side to the Turkish Super Lig title and the Champions League quarter finals. Now reports indicate that Moyes could move again for Ferguson's previous fancy.

The new United boss has struggled to land any high profile signings he wanted this summer and perhaps a move for the Dutch playmaker could yet happen as he seeks extra creativity and goals in the side he inherited from Ferguson.

Barcelona's Cesc Fabregas and Thiago Alcantara have both slipped through the net while the pursuit for Everton's Marouane Fellaini has so far proved fruitless as the former Toffees boss looks for more midfield options at Old Trafford.

However we're unsure if this rumour will go any further than mere speculation but as one punter points out, stranger things have happened in this transfer window.

Apparently he's lessened his demands to a billion quid per week, and ownership of Old Trafford.

I swear it's Sneijder himself who starts these rumours.

Sounds promising:

Luis Van Gaal insists Galatasaray star Sneijder will not regain the honour - nor his place in the starting XI - until he improves his physical condition. "He wasn't fully fit and he hasn't been fit for a whole year," Van Gaal told SBS6. "You could see that on the pitch. As long as he isn't in shape, he can't be in the team and he can't be captain."

He's only got 2 Twitter followers left since all the United fans unfollowed him.

Ozil and Sneijder.

Now all we need is a bid for Benzema and a rebid for Thiago.

Ah the good ship Sneijder which even though it sank a while ago, continues to sail upon the winds of mongery.

He'd be a good stop gap with nobody else available, in all seriousness.
He wouldn't really, he's shot physically and doesn't seem to care anymore plus he'd probably still expect big wages.

We could probably do our own Boom Bust Cycle diagram just with the summer transfer window and midfielders.

He's linked with a lot of clubs:
