Official: City signs Clichy

Clichy's 95% to blame. Kompany waited for him to challenge Nani so he could pick up the pieces. For some reason Clichy (because he's a brainless defender) ran off to the wing and left Kompany one-on-one.

Nice bit of business he was, picking up such a solid backup defender

Strange signing. When one of your rivals is happy to sell you a player, there is probably something rotten in Denmark.

Other than Top.

Not really the way I saw it. To me it looked like Clichy was making an angle for Kompany to make a pass.

Clichy was guilty of failing to communicate properly but Kompany should have took charge IMO.

It was so obvious what you had to do as a LB - challenge for the ball and let the spare defender pick it off. Not run away and leave Kompany one-on-one.

How did you work that one out? All LB's challenge for the ball and CB's become spare defenders?

I would have sworn that you had him as the best Left back in the league in these forums for three years running.

I thought it was his fault as well tbh, he started off running towards the ball while it was in the air, so Kompany backed off to let him deal with it. As the ball bounced and Nani got closer Clichy ran to the wing which forced Kompany to rush into an attempted clearance that he wasnt in position for which Nani blocked, and then he went and scored.

When are you thinking he should have challenged? The first bounce or when Kompany made a hash of it?

As I say, too me it seemed Clichy wanted to make an angle for the pass rather than getting in Kompany's way.

feck the angle for a possible pass - stomp out the danger. If he goes for the ball and makes sure Nani doesn't get it (easy) then Kompany sweeps up.

The stinky bastard

but you're right. It's like Sylvestra to Arsenal. Fergie knew he was shit, Wenger wanted a cheap defender and he sold him within a year.

City are fecking idiots while Arsenal are laughing all the way to the bank in the same fashion they were about Ade

after watching it five or six times clichy, had he hustled, might have met the ball when it came down. you don't know what kompany and he were saying to each other, while the ball was in the air, if anything. the ball landed in no man's land and the rest is history. the two of them fecked it up for sure. nani's pressure on kompany made the moment. great finish.

Weak link.

Based on this 1 game or in general? I'd say in fairness he's had a good first season and looks a lot better than he did towards the end of his Arsenal career. He's definitely one of the better left backs in the league and for the money they paid he was a good signing. With a back up/rotation option with Kolorov as well I'd not say he, or that position, is a weak link.

He's struggling a bit against Sturridge at the moment but not to much really, the commentary seems to have a tendency to talk up whatever these young strikers are doing, especially if they're English. Don't get me wrong he's got the better of Clichy a few times but I'd not single him out as being a weak link.

My friend who is a Gooner once claimed that Clichy is six times the player Evra was, is, and ever shall be.

He is obviously their weekest link, I can't imagine they'll be happy with him for good, average player.

They will just sign Alba for £30M or so in the summer, wouldn't be a surprise. Shit club.

Called it

Check back through the thread, I think he's shite, always have.

Fair enough if that's your opinion in general, I do agree he looked poor at Arsenal towards the end of his career but I'd say he's pretty revitalised at City now he's come to a different club, looks a good player again. There is better but for the options they have I don't think it's a huge problem for City. That's why I asked, wouldn't think it's fair to judge on 1 game and fair enough if you've not.

But yeah, I do look a bit of a tit now in hindsight but still reckon he's been decent at City.

Has he started many games for them? Each time I see them, Kolarov seems to play nearly all the time.

I think Arsenal saw what happened with the fantastic success story that was Agent Silvestre and sent their very own special weapon up to City...

Aye I've thought he looked surprisingly decent, looked a better player for City than Kolarov has certainly.

His big weakness though is he's a poor defender one v one. Always have been, always will be. Isolated, up against a winger worth his chalk, he WILL be given the runabout. Much like Richards on the other side.

City dominates games and try to get them on the offensive. When City are pushed back, those are the weak spots.
