Official: City signs Clichy

Gibbs is being touted as hua replacement which would weaken Arsenal IMO. I'm surprised by the hype that he has been getting, he is very average.

Maybe now Arsenal will have a left back that knows how to clear a ball and not lose it to an attacker next to his box.

"Gael Clichy in 2009 after Adebayor leaves 'I really believe if you are a player who thinks only about money then you could end up @ ManCity'"

Clichy is 'good'. As far as I'm concerned city can continue overpaying such players as much as they want - with the FFP coming in they will regret putting squad players on huge salaries that couldve attracted better names.

Do we know his wages yet?

I haven't seen anything reported.

In chatting to an Arsenal fan at work today he seemed to think Arsenal are buying Cissokho from Lyon to replace Clichy.

Gaël Clichy: "I understand that the people who live in Manchester are the true fans. They are from City."

Blimey. City's new boys must get some serious prepping because their first interview.

Cissokho's coming off of a terrible season. Can't remember the source (possibly a journo on Twitter) but there was something about the club actually saying as much.

On topic, I think Arsenal have done well here. Clichy epitomised Arsenal IMO, he looked like he was amazing and I remember thinking he would overtake Evra very soon. Since then, Evra's had a tough two seasons and Clichy's looked woeful. So much potential and he's made no steps towards it. The exact sort of player that Arsenal need to clear out this year and start fresh without - they need players who perform to the best of their ability and/or use their talent effectively. Right now they're carrying too many players on the basis of what they could achieve.

That said, he's still not old so he could fulfil that promise. Again though, who fulfils their potential at Citeh? He had a chance at 'Pool under Dalglish but at Citeh? I don't think so.

Most probably, it's in their contract - there are a couple of sentences prepared by Gary Cook that every City signing will have to learn by heart and then repeat it in front of the press..

Gaël Clichy: "I understand that the people who live in Manchester are the true fans. They are from City. Smile at camera."

Even City fans won't be fooled by that.

I reckon Wenger will see Gibbs as the natural replacement for Clichy, just like he saw Clichy as the natural replacement for A. Cole.

The problem for him is that Gibbs looks to be quite inferior to Clichy, just as Clichy was to Cashley.

Gibbs is good but he is so injury prone. He will be England's left back after Cole is done. It is going to be Gibbs and Baines.

Kolarov isn't really that bad, it's a bit of a sideways move for City and no great loss for Arsenal. Clichy strikes me as a player that you can't really care about, he could cease to exist and no one would notice.

Clichy gets openly destroyed by any half decent winger these days, 3 years ago he looked the muts nutts but his games gone dramatically down hill since then, if hes the best City can get at left back then happy days, when your buying defenders from Arsenal you know your transfer strategy is fecked up.
