Odion Ighalo - 6 month loan deal done

But seriously, some amzingly OTT reactions to this. I mean...how does anyone think this is replacing Lukaku??? If Rashford didn't get injured, we wouldn't even be looking for a striker. It's a 6 month loan deal for a Prem proven striker. We're not signing a player to take us to the next level. We're a Martial injury away from throwing in the towel upfront. This looks like a sensible deal, at a time when it was almost impossible to get anyone you'd really want in.
I think quite a few people were getting wet at the prospect of being able to lose their shit because we didn't sign a striker in the window. Now we've done that they've been robbed the at the chance of unadulterated outrage at Solskjaer, Woodward and the board.

Jim White mentioned Aston Villa rejected the chance for Ighalo to join them yesterday. Jim and his imaginary sources. Muppet

To all crying people here - who did you expect us to sign on 6 month loan in January? Ronaldo? There is pretty much 0 choice. It’s 6 month loan ffs, if he is shite then whatever but he might just score a few goals and help the team. We got nothing to lose really so stop moaning.
Are you hired by Woodward to write such complete bullshit? Ton of strikers transferred in this winter window, pretty much all of them better than Ighalo. We didn't have to make it a loan, if we had balls to close Haaland. But even in loans - Cavani was doable. Lots of other choices.

Some of you people sound like by signing fecking Ighalo we have signed in-form Messi. Just because he has six-pack on some photo, apparently he's in-form. As if that is what in-form for EPL means... Somebody even had a nerve to say that Ighalo played better in African Cup than Mo Salah. I guess we are going to conclude then that we just signed somebody who is better than Salah? Incredible

Having the extra body is the important thing as it allows for a rest to some players and I would rather see him come on than lingard when needing a goal

No obligation to buy
Inexpensive
He will want to be here and prove himself so will work hard

I don't see an issue with this

Can we sing his name like we used to sing Radamel Falcao?

Lo lolo lolo lolo Odioooon Ighalooo
Lo lolo lolo lolo Lo lolo lolo lolo
Odioooooon Ighalooo oooo

Why I have doubts? Because I didn't rate him particularly highly when he was last in England.

More to the point, he's another striker on our books whose box-play is far from his biggest strength. As an alternative to Rashford and Martial, all he offers is inferiority. I would have preferred someone with a different toolset to give us a change off the bench. But I guess Ole has a preference and our options were limited.
No I meant why it was good business? :p

It is sort of an act of desperation, In the sense that we are desperate for another forward.

would we prefer Lautaro Martinez, haaland, dembele? Sure. but that’s not happening now.

You are completing missing the point. Nobody is advocating that Lukaku should have stayed. But when you let Lukaku go, you have to replace him at least with something equal. Ighalo is not even in the ballpark of Lukaku, not just now, but he was never even close to Lukaku's level. This is a fecking embarrassment.
Skill wise he might not be but he'll put more effort in for the team, Lukaku was pure lazy with a poor attitude, something Ighalo probably trumps him on. I also think we put our eggs in the Haaland basket until the move didnt make sense for us and injuries happened.

I can't believe Ole, who didn't want a Lukaku kind of player, goes and gets in someone who is just that, and nowhere near as good even when fit.

How is he even similiar to Lukaku? He's got pace, a good first touch and good dribbling technique and works hard to create space.

Hope it works out for both parties.Good luck Ighalo.

Assuming someone is running around trying to find a current United shirt in Shanghai for him to hold up for a pic

Like Many said above , Ighalo is a fan of the club. He will be over the moon at signing with us. He definitely won't be a mercenary who is here for the money..if anything he will be here to prove himself and see if he can get a permanent contract.

I don't know he will be a prime RvN , but I don't think we will moan about his workrate. I think he will work his socks off. Let's just hope he gets the rub of the green and he can score a few. Let everyone laugh at him, We need to get behind this lad. If it doesn't work out, hey ho.
Seriously, the people moaning (critics) are probably of those who keep statistics of how many licks their wife gave them during a blowjob and then use it against her.

The thing is, we may not be in an ideal situation but the truth is we're going towards a better direction and we're in this together so let's suck it up and just keep a little positivity going.

I would say there was also the idea of not wasting Bruno's talents, put a proper traditional striker in front of him.

Just what we wanted. A striker who cant finish his shots
I mean Ighalo will help from the bench and will add numbers to a fairly depleted forward line up. But I am sceptical whether he would be a better option than perhaps Greenwood from the bench. We'll have to see I guess.

If he is motivated and stays fit, he could surprise quite a few people on here. Thought he was good at Watford most of the time.
Lifelong Utd fan he’ll be motivated alright.
I grew up near Watford and know a few match going fans. He can be a handful on his day and is a good poacher. Quick too.
Good option for us in the circs he’ll do well I think.
Good move from the club, very happy with this. At the very least he might shame martial into making a run now and then......

Yeah, I am fecking hired by Woodward  You know feck all and just spouting BS yourself. Maybe Haaland simply didn't want to join us, maybe Canavi wants to go to Atletico or maybe we just didn't want to spend £40m on mediocre players like King and rather spent the money on Bruno. Don't pretend you know what's happening behind the scenes.

Okay, friend of mine who is a massive Watford fan talking about Ighalo used a word to describe him joining United: "Unbelievable."

"He was brilliant for Watford but not sure he is United quality. I'd have gone all out for Cavani or Mertens. Even Giroud. Watford fans were sad to see him go when he did. We got £30m for him and he went for big wages. I'd have him back at Watford, yes. Good enough for us. Villa turned him down, apparently.
"It is Plan Y. Smacks of a bit of panic."

Listen, forget the bench. This geezer is gonna start games, I can guarantee you. He will be absolutely positive for greenwood and will kick martial up the bum.

OK, but Haaland signed more than a month ago. We had plenty of time to recover even from that major feck-up. Lukaku exited as an asshole, but just "effort" is also not sufficient. We are playing at the top level. Six pack abs and attitude won't cut it.

I'm sure if either were available we'd have gone for them.

Chelsea literally wanted to get Mertens so they could move Giroud on and couldn't get it done. So it's not that straight forward evidently.

He comes from the Chinese league and I fear he is not on the same fair level as he showed in Watford. He has played for a long time in a league where there are some really good players, but many, many bad ones.

United are struggling to score goals, so you have signed a goalscorer on a short term deal.

You are struggling to create goals so you have signed a creative midfielder who can also score goals.

Knowing how hard it is to get good players in January, would you not have taken that at the start of the window?

Villa couldn't afford his wages (£100k a week) which is why they turned him down. Inter and Spurs tried to sign him today but he wanted to join us.
