Odion Ighalo - 6 month loan deal done

People have lost the plot to be moaning about this.

We have three fit players who can play in the front three, one of whom is 18 and another injury prone. Ole has already been starting two up front partly because of this. We needed an option off the bench or god forbid, if Martial gets injured.

But some are saying they'd rather we got no one? Eh? We're an injury away from Lingard starting every game until the end of the season here :lol:

Yes, absolutely. And I think the majority are happy.

But unless you bring in Messi and Mbappe, there’ll be a lot on here moaning.

Cavani was not remotely doable. He was only interested in a move to Madrid and PSG were very clear that they would not part with him for less than a 20 million transfer fee. If by some miracle we could have persuaded him to come to sunny Manchester for Europa League and a battle for 4th he would have wanted a new contract and Sanchez level wages which at his age would have been monumentally stupid for us to do.

You know Ed, he can only work on one deal at a time. What about six pack abs, attitude and a good first touch, would that suffice?
 
The people moaning ing are probably the same people who would moan when we either have an overpaid 30-odd year old Cavani still in our books in a few years or even more dead weight, and would go crazy if we bought no one saying that anyone would be better. There is just no pleasing some people and they just want to find a reason to moan.

Hardly expecting this guy to set the world on fire, but if we actually have a bench player who offers some sort of threat on goal that's an improvement that we desperately needed.

The talk of having a long term plan actually seems to be true based on this window. We were after young, promising players in 2 positions we need improvement in, we got one and failed the other, so rather than panic buying more future dead wood we took a short term. gamble with very little risk attached. Maybe they really are backing Ole and we'll see more in the summer. Whether they're right to back his plan is a whole other conversation, but I'm just happy that the club are acknowledging that we need to mix our squad up and actually doing something about it.
 
It is what it is. Would sooner him be here than not and what's also overlooked is he is a leader.

Don't mind the move really. We need another striker to take the pressure of Martial and Greenwood a bit, he knows the league and could even be a hit. Looking forward to see how he returns!

It would, but if he had good-enough first touch, his career would have been a bit more distinguished? It's not just that he's rotted in Chinese league last three years. He hasn't done anything remarkable before that as well. Yeah, Ed is a disaster. It's almost like he is intentionally this stupid, or he messes with fans because he hates us? :D

This is two more players than I honestly expected in this window and I've no problem with either of them.

United are definitely more line likely to actually put up a fight for 4th with these two than we were without them.
 
The people complaining over a god damn temporary loan move, most likely, for a player who's done well in the prem in recent times and who's dream is to play for United. Cool it.

Who else did you expect to be signed in January? fecking muppets, legit. Almost want to pull out the classic this aint football manager shit. What other options were there?

We are not struggling to score goals because of a lack of striker. We are struggling because there is a lack of structure and system designed to create chances for our strikers. This is the reason why people always remember the chances we miss because we have a serious lack of ideas in our system . One player will not change this and certainly not a desperate singing like this.

Because haaland and his agent were behaving as if he had already made it and as if he owes us something? No matter the ability, we're United and we are not a small time club. We dictate the terms.

People would moan that Messi is too old and Mbappe doesn't want to be here enough. We could have cloned peak Fergie and George Best and people would still find a way to moan.

Sounds like he was 4th choice at best. Possibly 5th if the Rondon rumours are to be believed.

I think Ole prioritised PL experience so as to ensure a quick adaptation to the PL. I reckon the likes of Gaich were probably further down the list.

He was never the answer. Because he doesn't see himself as a striker. Yet we tell Lukaku that Rashford is our number one striker. Rashford doesn't even see himself as a striker. He prefers playing on the left. He has said this repeatedly. Ighalo will not play where Rashford plays. He is closer to Lukaku than anyone. We needed a replacement for Lukaku, and we have got Lukaku-lite. Let's hope he blows us all away...and, look, it is not Ighalo's fault. He has a great opportunity and I hope he takes it and shows what he showed when he went to Watford.

Maybe he has the first touch, just doesn't have the finishing prowess :nervous: he went for the money really didn't he, it was the best time to sell to chinese teams as there wasn't the 100% tax on foreign players either. He probably does, or he's just incompetent, or both :lol:

Giroud was never on the table for a top 4 rival. It was an excercise in futility for Spurs to waste their window on him.

One thing that's obvious is that Ole likes his forwards to be quick. Ings, Haaland, King and Ighalo all have that. It may have been what precluded offers for Cavani and Mertens.
 
I'm probably mad but this may end up being a signing that surprises us . He may just do well. We got Sanchez and Falcao before who were underwhelming this might go the other way . Fingers crossed

Absolutely. The stuff that goes on at Old Trafford is no reflection on him. He has such an opportunity...and you know what, we could just see him shine. Let's hope so.
 
I think this is a great signing . Low risk, easy to move on if it doesn’t work out, or we find better, and a reasonable chance he succeeds. Didn’t expect anyone to join the squad and then get a couple more injuries in the next game. So a loan win for me.

Absolutely. They were players with big reputations who had everything to lose. Ighalo has nothing to lose. That's a perfect storm. After Martial's performance against City, if Ighalo had been available, I would have had him in.

Jose attracted Zlatan and Pogba here. LVG convinced the likes of Di Maria, Falcao & Basti.... Ole failed to get Haarland (who played under him!) failed to get a 27 year old Norwegian United reject from Bournemouth... so settled for a 30 year old ex-Watford player from the Chinese league who shares his agent...to replace the 20 goal top flight 26 year old he sold in the summer!

But apparently we shouldn’t even dare to expect more...lest we be spoiled, or unbecoming of a true fan!

I don't see a negative in this approach given its short term

Worst case scenario is he comes on instead of lingard when needing a goal and has no impact
