ODI Sheep draft time?

So you need 3 write up's from us, one for each match? At least 2 as you can only make 1 change in R1!
Personally, I'd advise against it as voters would never read 3 detailed write ups. I surely won't. 1 proper write up with tweaks you are making for other tests being highlighted should solve the purpose I think.
Depends. If I'm dropping a all rounder for a specialist spinner, it may impact batting too.

But either way, just wondering what format is the write up expected?

3 lineup's
3 tables with stats
Probably a short note for each game

Anything else?
Why 3 tables? Stats would remain the same regardless of the pitch. Just have the stats for all 12 together highlighting the ones not playing all tests.
Yeah, that sounds decent. You can also give the person who wins the toss 2/3 matches with the other team deciding the fate of the one test match. Maybe we should ask @crappycraperson on this since he ran a similar draft like this for ODI's if I am not mistaken.

Is it also in anyway possible to ensure that within the 24hr period, first 8 hours goes for discussions in the first match and so on ? If someone is found violating those discussions, you can give them a warning at first and then dock 1 vote or something for subsequent offences ? That would largely negate discussions meandering towards pointlessness like we saw in the ODI and T20 drafts.

It would be even cooler if we could get individual vote tallying for each of the 8 hour time periods, but I know that is next to impossible.
Impossible to moderate that. You can't expect voters to check in thrice either.

We need at least 24 hours per test no? People will need to find the time to read through all our debate shit and then vote. You cant expect them to read through all 3 matchup posts in one day.
No, 24 hrs in total. Do your write up for all 3 tests in the main write up. Discussions to follow. Voters can feel free to vote when they like. If they want to wait till the discussions have been had, they can. Can't have 3 days per game.

Keep it simple ,unnecessary to write 3 different write ups.

Impossible to moderate that. You can't expect voters to check in thrice either.
But then you will see active posters obviously giving more importance to test matches they think they can win. It'll be a spam fest. There won't be equal distribution of discussions for the 3 test matches.

I didn't mean the voters. I realize that is near to impossible and a pain to moderate and frankly not worth it either. I meant the discussions. Via threadmarks and a bit of modding you could allot 8 hours for each test match. The OP can give sufficient information as to how the discussions will proceed and what not.

Voters will know there are 3 tests though so if you keep banging on about 1 test ignoring the other 2, it's not much use. You need to convince people you'll win 2 out of the 3 tests.

If you do that, you require the voters to hold off till all 3 tests have been discussed. Say we keep 6hrs for each tests, we need all voters to vote in the last 6hrs. That's not possible.

Alternative is to change the voting patterns. Rather than A vs B poll, setup scoreline poll.

Manager A wins the series 3-0
Manager A wins the series 2-1
Manager B wins the series 3-0
Manager B wins the series 2-1

I've eliminated tie/draw results out of the equation for simplicity's sake. That way, we know all 3 scenarios have been considered by voters.

If votes are equally divided, we can total up individual won matches to decide on the winner. i.e Manager with more 3-0 score will win...

This could work. You guys use it in the Football drafts as well right ? It's a little less straightforward with the cricket drafts, but this voting pattern would make sense.

Don't need to do toss, the ODI draft (I think it was that) eliminated them and we didn't miss it. Toss became the deciding factor too many times when games were close, as they often are.
It was the T20 draft I think. I dunno, I am one of those that think Toss is key. Many games and a few World Cups too are won and lost in real life because of it. But whatever the mod decides is fine by me.

Sounds good. Will ensure people have considered all 3 teats for sure.

From a discussion POV, the toss is vital in tests though unlike say T20s. Having the same side batting first in all e tests eliminates it's impact on the result while keeping the discussion related to it relevant.

How does having the same side bat first eliminate its relevance to the result? You will get the arguments of how the spinning pitch will deteriorate more over time so the team bowling second is advantaged. The same argument will not necessarily apply to the other pitches. I don't think it needs to be discussed, just treat both first innings as early as far as pitch condition goes and both second innings as late.

Batting first on the track that aids spinners is an advantage. Batting first on the green top is a disadvantage.

My only fear is that it ends up with these 2 tests being simply decided by the toss and the series being decided by the 3rd game.

I've gone for Merv Hughes. Steady 212 Test wickets. This is getting so difficult now. My Australia allowance of 3 is now full.

@RedTiger
Erm you already passed your three Aussie quota? Pick another player. You already have Ponting, Chappell and McDermott. And delete your post since someone else has a chance to pick him.

Also I know we all would like this to move as quickly as possible but if the time limit is 8 hours (from an original 12) can we at least give people 8 hours to pick, we are tagging people in the posts after all. If people wanted it over in a day it should be 20 minutes per pick!
You shouldn't feel pressured to make your pick asap, and obviously you are free to take your time of course. But the 8 hour limit is really for people sleeping / out & too busy to make the pick, rather than to really be used to choose the player, since we can mostly do that while others are picking. Not meaning to aim this at you specifically or anything.

We all should probably be making more use of Varun and PMing picks in advance to him, as well.

Time zone differences is the problem. I think everyone should PM their picks if possible to someone further apart in the list from them who is from the opposite time zone to keep this moving.

This time is the only time that all three time zones (gmt ist and East coast) would be awake concurrently so hopefully people speeding up the picking would help. You are entitled for 8 hours but picking ASAP is always advisable

I have tiger's pick.

Also, I think Chris is allowed to exceed the quota as long as he plays only three of them in the starting eleven

Alright then didnt think about it that way. Post Tiger's pick. Lets keep this moving.

@ChrisNelson your quota is already full buddy
Crap sorry had in my head when looking at my team that McDermott was NZ for some reason. Idiot. Ok here goes, Zaheer Khan instead, 311 wickets at a slightly higher average than I would like but as this is getting borderline impossible and I think batsmen will be slightly easier to pick out later in the draft, he's in.
