Obertan to Newcastle for £3m

The thing I find strange is him staying in England, he's said before that he felt homesick and it seems obvious his head was never really right, more French lads at Toon I suppose.

Best of luck to him and best for both parties. Wasn't going to make it here but he'll be a decent PL player.

Good luck to him. He showed flashes that he might make it at United, SAF and his coaching have a good track record of knowing when to move a player on.

Apparently having medicals at Newcastle...

He's now in the North East- closer to home, than if he was in Manchester.

BBC Sport - Gabriel Obertan set to move from Man Utd to Newcastle

Gabriel Obertan is set to move from Manchester United to Newcastle United on Monday, the BBC has learned.

The 22-year-old French winger signed for the Old Trafford club from Bordeaux in July 2009 but failed to gain a regular place in the first team.

Obertan made 28 first-team appearances and scored once in regular competition during his time at Manchester United.

That strike came in United's 3-0 win away to Turkish side Bursaspor in the Champions League in November 2010.

Obertan would become the fifth French speaking player to sign for the club during this transfer window, following the arrivals of Demba Ba, Yohan Cabaye, Sylvain Marveaux and Mehdi Abeid.

More to follow.

It appears permanent

he infuriates me......he's 6ft tall, lightenning quick...good technique, great shot, very tricky yet shit

Im glad hes gone. It will be interesting to see if he picks up his game after not doing so for us. He has the potential to do well but why he never did it at Old Trafford is beyond me.

Newcastle probably his best level imo.

Can't even see him play there regularly this season.

£10m earned on transfers this Summer already, if we can sell Gibson, Kuszczak and Diouf then my prediction about net outlay will be CORRECT.

A move which should benefit him

If he can sort himself out mentality he can become a decent player in the Premier League.

No it won't. You predicted a thirty million outlay.

Bit disappointed in this to be honest, i thought this player had great ability when he came to united, seems like his mentality was too weak to really kick on and cement a place.

shame really

Obertan has ability, but he seems to lack the mental determination to succeed at United. Lets face it, we have tons of wingers here now too.

He would've never seen the light of day at OT with all of the wingers and wing-capable players we have.

£16m on Jones, £17m on De Gea and £15m on Young - £47m.

We received £6m for O'Shea and Brown, £3m for Obertan, I assume Gibson would cost £5m, Kuszczak around £4m, Diouf around £2m, so £11m more - £20m.

£47m minus £20m equals £27m, so below £30m that I predicted in that thread.

Now if we sell Berbatov...

Yeah, I would be interested in that, too. Is this your £20 million net guess, or your second £30 million net guess?

£30m guess, although I might still be right about less than £20m.

But seriously, I'll probably be wrong about both, but I feel it'll be only marginal about £30m. :P

I don't think PIG would fetch us £4m tbh. £6m wasn't the fee for O'Shea and Brown too.

£6m was what I saw reported in most media. £2m for Brown and £4m for O'Shea. Gibson was supposed to be worth £6m for them which would add up to the widely reported £12m.

The people who really needed to know have been told.

Unfortunately he's just another Jonathan Greening/Chris Eagles. Just quicker. Good luck to him anyway. He can become a decent player if everything goes well for him really.
