Obertan to Newcastle for £3m

It seems some of you think a loan specifically to newcastle could range from very good to very bad
Could you elaborate a bit?

what happened to Rossi in his spell at Newcastle?! we sold him for 5m and now his value is 30m...

They played 1 up front and hoofed the ball up towards the striker. Rossi did okay when he was given the chance but thats not his kind of football

I think it will be very bad as he won't get games.

I don't think he's good enough even for Newcastle.

Barton's a better player than Obertan so in practical terms we'd probably be better off with a swap (ignoring all the 'other' stuff that surrounds Barton) but since he's on a free and Obertan must still be worth a couple of million it wouldn't be a great deal.

Obertan has more talent/ability/potential.

I would prefer loaning him to someone like Aston Villa, but Newcastle are a big club as well. I just hope if he does go there, his loan is more beneficial than Rossi's. He needs to show he can perform consistently when there's pressure on him. Mastering the Newcastle soap opera would really show his true worth. An impressive loan spell gave Cleverley and Welbeck their opportunity and this looks like his final chance to do the same.

We have yet more attackers like Morrison who will be pushing for first team inclusion fairly soon and possibly at his expense.

Hmm. Still think he's a million miles ahead of the likes of Bebe. If I'd have sold either of the two it would definitely have been the latter.

I was hoping we would get at least a £2m profit. But it looks like a £3m deal from what I read in the Daily Mail.

Cracking talent, seems to struggle mentally as Blanc suggested. Doesn't seem to have faith in his own ability and whilst I think he still has something about him I think a move with less pressure of being at United could help him.

Worth more than £3 million for his pace alone but I wouldnt be surprised if he did move on.

What has he done in 2 years to make such a profit? He has not progressed even slightly since the day we signed him.

If we get what we paid for that is fair enough. Perhaps there could be a 1M add on if he makes a certain amount of appearances but that is all we could expect.

I will not loose any sleep over this but at the same time a year loan 1st and then decide may have been a good idea as well.

Either way another year in our reserves was doing nothing, he was going nowhere

He's bulked up a load and improved fitness, which will increase his chances of succeeding at Newcastle at least. His finishing seems to have come on leaps and bounds too.

Pardew has confirmed that it's a permanent deal and he is having his medical there on monday.

So he's gone, a pity i thought as we could afford to give him another season. Now we're left with Gibson and PIG clearing out the deadwood

Confirmed?
Pardew said he's coming in for a medical on Monday, ahead of signing a deal.

A another winger for Newcastle?

They`ve already Ben Arfa, Gutierrez, Marveaux, Gosling, Lovenkrands and Ferguson (Good talent).
We don't really have that many wingers on the books.

Ferguson's had a little time on the left side but is a left back. For now he's considered Enrique backup, possibly Enrique replacement.

Lovenkrands is 3rd or 4th choice striker and extreme backup right wing.

Pardew has said he's looking at playing a 4-5-1 and given the players at disposal I'm guessing that means one/two of Abeid/Tiote/Gosling/Guthrie anchoring the midfield and three/four of Cabaye/Barton/Jonas/Marveaux/Obertan/Ben Arfa/Taylor ahead of them. Decent competition and backup.

Could be a very strong midfield five, could turn out crap, we'll have to wait and see.

Not bothered he's gone. He never showed enough beyond pace, and his glacial rate of progress made me think he was never going to make it here.

Best of luck to him.

I don't mind Gibson so much (he will leave though it seems), so in my view we've already cleared out the deadwood.

Not bad. Can't remember the last time there was a United squad where there was basically no player I felt was a waste of time.

I think we should keep Gibson for one more season so he could provide some experience for our CC and FA Cup games.

Good luck to him, hope he can express his potential for Newcastle

Didnt expect this. When I first heard it, thought it was rubbish.
Most players need a run of games even when they are playing poorly to get going. Its hard to get that with the squad at united.

Good luck to him.
Wonder if have a buy back clause

Apparently having medicals at Newcastle...

Thing is, he did not even get a game when Giggs and Nani were our only available wingers. Sir Alex opted to put Gibson or Anderson there instead of him.

Is it that he is not improving becuase he is not getting a run of games, or is it that he is not getting a run of games because he is not improving, and there are better choices than him? The manager has to see a good reason why he should give Obertan a run of games, and he apparently didn't. Same with Bebe.
