Now for the holy grail: Playmaker

Maybe it's like the end of Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. The true answer(Holy Grail) is not the flashy option of Sneijder but rather the less attractive Tom Cleverley/Anderson.

Agreed all round. Cleverley is looking good but he is still a kid, he's playing very similar to how Modric plays in the middle and it's producing some sumptuous football, so he'd be my choice. I'd also back him to more of a squad man, willing to take being on the bench more often than the likes of Sneijder IMO.

I think if Chelsea have a bid accepted, we might get in on the action last moment. Last thing we want is a bidding war with Chelsea, Fergie is smarter then that. He must have definitely had a chat with 'arry today about Modric.

I'm very pleased with the starts Cleverley and Anderson have made and hope they push on from here. I would like to see a quality deep lying playmaker added though, Javi Martinez would be a good option, Ever Banega number 1 choice, or even M'Vila as more of a straight up DM with great athleticism and mobility.

We still need a midfielder or two to match Europe's elite (Barca & Real). We can still probably win the league with the squad we have already.

this. provided the current 5 or 6(including pogba) mentioned above stays healthy and fit for large part of the season then we are good enough to win the PL, no disrespect to others.

but to match barca and real ( who both got loads of quality and talent in midfield at this moment), we perhaps needs another midfielder.

If some other team can do the hard work for us (knocking out Barcelona and Real) then we can take Europe :)

The Snejider situation is still interesting though, still hoping for good news on August 31.

Anderson and Cleverley have been great so far but neither of them are "creative" players, if we're going down that route here. I thought Rooney would be used in that way but he hasn't really.

I still think we need another midfield, most def.

The US tour, Charity Shield, and the Premiership games seems to have killed the muppet in me...

We still need something there. Yesterday's midfield performance wasn't THAT good for 60 minutes, and that wasn't against Modric+Sandro or even Huddlestone... Obviously we still have Fletcher and Carrick to come in, but the very fact we've been talking about a new midfielder has something to do with them (mostly Carrick) as well. There's still a need for something extra. Maybe not Sneijder, maybe not even a real creative player, more of a 50/50, but I'm still not thrilled with that we've got.

M'Villa or Banega but the former looks to be going to Le Arse and the latter staying put.

Once upon a time our midfield future was these guys:

Cant find the Bellion goal against Arsenal, and I am aware he isn't a midfielder.

Too add to the, how times have changed.

The last remaining embers of this summer transfer window are barely flickering, soon be be blown away by the winds of Autumn.

I'm not too bothered though as no one else has really addressed their key issues either. Mata is a good buy for Chelsea but won't be a difference maker alone, City have made 2 class buys and will be a closer threat, Arsenal have more problems than a transexual albino hooker with aids, and Harry has the shakes due to going cold turkey.

Now we might get ass fecked in the CL if we meet Barca or Real, but as far as the Prem goes I think it will be business as usual with the same top 3 as last season, hopefully in the same order.

Cleverley is a good player, but still one for the future. Forget Barca he will be really tested when we have a tough away tie in the league, like Stamford Bridge or Anfield. Even Real Madrid in the UCL. He is definitely not ready. We need to sign someone in the midfield this summer and I hope we get Modric, he would be perfect.

Funny.
All the signs show he is ready. He's 22 for christ sake, it's not like we're playing an 18 year old who just popped up from the academy. Cleverley has gone on loan at 3 different tiers and excelled at each.

Imagine our signings this summer had been;

De gea
Jones
Young
Cleverley
Welbeck

I'd be delighted, especially given the start they've made. The fact that two of them are our own should make it all the better.

We're a little bit spoilt always wanting that one more signing...

You think he can pull the strings when we play the big games like Liverpool, Chelsea, etc.? Possible Real, Barca in the UCL? You must be having a laugh, take off those red tinted glasses. He is good and has a lot of potential, but he needs time and we need to ease him in. He has never played in Europe, FFS.

A sensible opinion at last.

Phil Jones is 19 and hasn't played in Europe, would you not be comfortable with him playing?

:wenger::lol: @ those who were convinced a midfielder would be signed and down right insulted those that said otherwise

I know the window hasn't close yet but lets face it it's looking almost certain that our business is done for this window
