He wins very few headers isn't that a problem for a CB?
With him and Martinez on either side it can certainly be an issue, especially against a more physical side. I'd say that he's pretty decent aerially though — not necessarily at winning the ball but at preventing the opposition to produce anything meaningful with their header. But overall with two centre back who aren't great in the air it's certainly a potential issue.

If we don't need someone (well, Mazraoui, and hopefully not) to cover for one of the wingback positions, you'd think that our main back three would be the same as it was tonight... with Yoro gradually replacing Mazraoui as the time goes (or De Ligt but more likely Mazraoui, at least at first). Yoro - Maguire - Shaw (again, IF fit) would be the go-to replacement for RCB - CCB - LCB respectively.

Yeah I'd agree with this, I think Yoro will be in the first 11 from next season though, or I hope he's progressed and shows enough to warrant being.

Dont understand why some still want him in right wing back based on the matchday thread. He's bloody awful there unless we're on the backfoot in an Anfield esque stadium. He's far better in RCB which gives Amad license to play higher up the pitch on RWB. There must be something I'm not getting because as far as I can see playing with 5 defenders has resulted in pretty embarrassing results at home. If we yet again start with both Dalot and Maz on wingback and we yet again lose/draw, then it'll be Rita Brown's definition of insanity by Amorim.

We really aren’t blessed with options. I agree he’s not great at RWB, and I’d have him and Yoro rotate at RCB but I also prefer Amad at 10.

So, when/if Maz, Martinez, Maguire, De Ligt and Yoro are all fully fit (discounting Shaw and Lindelof) who takes the 3 slots?

Maz DeLigt Martinez would be my first choice for the rest of the season with Yoro building minutes and experience.

Individually, those are the 3 best players for the back 3, but I wonder if collectively they leave a little bit wanting in height and pace.

We all prefer Amad at 10 but like you said we arent blessed with options. Maz playing at RCB, Amad at wing back and a Mainoo at 10 is definitely worth trying in the prem even if it's not Amad's best position. Everyone who's suggesting Maz-Dalot on wingbacks in the matchday thread shouldn't complain when it eventually results in a absolute slugfest of a performance.

I haven't really felt we're vulnerable to pace since settling into this set of five CBs (Martinez, De Ligt, Maguire, Yoro, Mazraoui) because collectively and under Amorim particularly they seem to just have better positioning and they read the game well.

Height is more of a concern but I think the trick is probably just to lose Maz/Yoro in favour of playing both Maguire and De Ligt against sides who are likely to pump balls into the box. There aren't that many teams who still do this so it won't need to happen much.

I actually prefer Amad as our RWB and think that may suit him in the longer term. He gets more space and is still able to get goals and assists while offering good energy and solid-enough defensive work. I think our challenge is to find an even better 10. Maybe that's where Tel comes in.

Either way, it's good to have a player who can play competently in multiple positions. Unfortunately Maz isn't a RWB and if push comes to shove we could easily sell him for profit. Good player though, one of the best signings we've made in years. Just unfortunate with the system change.

Definitely lacks pace which why we need to incorporate Yoro in there as soon as possible. Preferably the middle CB would have elite pace as well.

Man Utd 0:2 Crystal Palace New
Had a few good performances in the first half of the season but offers nothing now.

With the arrival of Dorgu, I hope this means Dalot moves back to the right side, and Mazraoui back to RCB. It’s the only position he should play in this system.

Didn’t see the game, but presuming he played at full back instead of one of the centre backs like in midweek?

Barely put foot wrong at RCB or RB all season.

Looked nothing but terrible at RWB all season.

Why is he persisting on playing him there?!?!

I think the most fascinating aspect of his game is that the great technique he showed early on is gone. His passes always lack proper zip on them now and his first touch doesn't look great either.

Yes. And he was probably our worst player today but there is some pretty strong competition for that particular prize today.

I was excited when we got him because I thought he was a versatile player. The more I see of him, the less versatile he looks. He can play as one of the centre backs (probably the one of the right), but that's it.

He's been so shit for so long now, can't wait until Dorgu comes in and either benches him or gets him back to RCB.

Absolutely woeful today, and I hope Amorim sees that. If there's anything of a silver lining of Martinez going down with an injury is that it increases the likelihood of Mazraoui being used as RCB cover so we'll see less of him at RWB.

He was very good in midweek. Again, seems to me he’s better in the RCB role. With the Martinez injury and the fact we have a new wingback, maybe he can get more opportunities in that role.

This is the most worrying thing. I understand the lethargy because he's probably not used to playing so many games but his passing, touch and decisions were really poor.

Its amazing that at Ajax he had a season with 5 goals and 2 asssists, or 6 goals and 6 assists in Belgium. He looks so uncomfortable past the halfway line

One of the biggest losers of this mid season manager change. He simply isn’t a wingback, it’s a shame because he looked great in a back four. Poor planning from the club has arguably ruined one of our only good signings in a while.

He was equally good at the RCB role when Amorim first took over. Hopefully either Dorgu hits the ground running or we get another attacker (or two) which allows Amad to go back to the wingback role, so Mazraoui can then move back into the centre and hopefully get back into his earlier season form.

Feel like the Dalot-Maz wing back pairing is another one of those duos which may be remembered for all the wrong reasons. Joining in the footsteps of Maguire-Lindelof, McFred, Dalot-Wan Bissaka and most recently Hojlund-Zirkzee

I feel for this guy.. A victim of his early success. A quality full back and a very able centre back in a back 3 but being asked to play wingback due to shortage of options.

He's not a wing back, he needs to play at RCB or be on the bench.
The manager needs to realise this and stop these average wing back performances.
