NOTW exposes Pak match-fixing in Lord's Test

And now we have Pak blaming Pawar being head of ICC as a reason behind this conspiracy.

that has to be a joke
however, negative an opinion one has of Indian politicians, Pakistan trying to claim that after that is out in the open in the media, is frankly ridiculous

The patron of the PCB is the Pakistani President, Mr.Ten Percent..of course they are going to try to blame it on a conspiracy. How many people have ever admitted being corrupt?

feck it, ban pakistan for 5 years, who cares what it does to international cricket. No one goes to Pakistan anyways...

I never doubted for 1 min that pak wouldn't blame India.

Afterall raw agents planted the sting operation and money in there hotel rooms. If only they were capable of planning it let alone implementing it.

ummm no, I'm not confusing it with the Central Bureau of Investigations. I am amazed at the blindness/defensiveness shown by the Indian fans on here,

BCCI can't investigate anything, India makes the most money, we don't need anyone.

sharjah-grab.jpg

This is an example of what I mean...money over integrity. They can't prosecute, they can't gt arrest warrants, but they sure as hell can help provide information, instead of asking for the world to back off...

Your argument is silly, doesn't make sense and probably has AIDS.

Might be some more revelations in tomorrow's paper, SSN have a report in the next hour where they'll speak to the NOTW about if there are any new revelations.

NOTW claim Yasir Hameed rejected the chance to fix a match and that the ICC is investigating a 4th Pakistani player for alleged match fixing.

God I hope the Ratmal brothers are involved. They both faces only a blind mother could love, and personas to match.

Really can't stand them...

Some details of what tomorrows paper is saying:
  • The News of the World publishing full details of the ENTIRE investigation starting in January this year including printing the transcripts of every meeting, conversation, email and text exchange.
  • An explosive claim by a member of the Pakistan touring team that some of his team-mates ARE cheats. Opening batsman Yasir Hameed tells us bent teammates were fixing "almost every match". He said: "They've been caught. Only the ones that get caught are branded crooks.
"They were doing it (fixing) in almost every match. God knows what they were up to. Scotland Yard was after them for ages.
"It makes me angry because I'm playing my best and they are trying to lose."

  • How the ICC are now probing a FOURTH Pakistan touring player over match-rigging claims. The News of the World is not naming this player for legal reasons.
  • The three suspended Pakistan players face a staggering TWENTY THREE ICC charges between them - each charge runs to six pages.
  • Exposing the rantings of the Pakistan High Commissioner who outrageously claimed that the News of the World had "set up" Salman Butt, Mohammad Amir and Mohammad Asif. CCTV evidence proves the meeting with fixer Mazhar Majeed took place before any "no balls" had been bowled. Dated receipts and emails also prove the money handover happened BEFORE the "no balls".
  • Pakistan Captain Salman Butt was warned FIVE TIMES about his responsibilities to report any irregular contact with outside agencies. And investigators have recovered between £10,000 and £15,000 of marked News of the World bills from the Pakistan captain's hotel room.

According to some Twitter users, Yaseer Hameed has denied this interview to Geo TV.

Does this site have issues with libel? I'm just wondering, I know it's a United fan forum...who really cares?

But still, maybe not displaying the names would be wise.

According to some Twitter users, Yaseer Hameed has denied this interview to Geo TV.

If true, the credibility of the NOTW will be questioned. I did think it was strange for Hameed to give an interview against his teammates and for the paper to quote him directly (usually papers say 'an unnamed source...') PCB lawyers will pounce on this if it's proved Hameed gave no interview.

Can't see why NOTW would want to make the Hameed stuff up. There's plenty of truths to get through first before having to fabricate a story. If I'm given a choice I'll believe NOTW before any Pakistani that's for sure (and no I'm not a tabloid nut and also yes I'm a Pakistani).

Hameed's action in failing to tell the ACSU he was approached to fix a match could see him in trouble as well:
Article 2.4.2 states it is an offence if a player fails "to disclose to the ACSU (without undue delay) full details of any approaches or invitations received by the Player or Player Support Personnel to engage in conduct that would amount to a breach of the Anti-Corruption Code."

Edit:

Afridi had this to say about Hameed after the T-20 match:
"He's 30 or 31; mentally he's 15 or 16, sitting with somebody he doesn't know, saying these type of things," said Afridi after Pakistan were beaten by England in Cardiff in a Twenty20 international.

Pakistan match-fixing claims: player 'hid mobile phone in his helmet while waiting to bat'
A Pakistan player concealed a mobile phone inside the helmet he was wearing as he waited to bat during a recent international match, one of his team-mates has alleged.

A former Pakistan Test cricketer, who was told of the incident by this player's team-mate, has passed on the allegation to the International Cricket Council's Anti-Corruption and Security Unit. The use of mobile phones by players is strictly forbidden anywhere on the ground during an international match under ICC regulations designed to prevent communication between match-fixers and players.

The former Test cricketer, who wished to remain anonymous for fear of reprisals, said he rang the ACSU hotline after being told recently of the claim by the current Pakistan player. The phone was hidden inside the right earpiece of the helmet of the player waiting to bat, he alleged.

"My reaction was one of disbelief," the former Test cricketer said on Saturday. "I had reason to suspect things were going on in international cricket, and you never had total confidence in certain games because of the rumours about match fixing and spot fixing. But when I was told about this player with the mobile inside his helmet, I was flabbergasted."

This revelation comes at the end of perhaps the most disturbing week cricket has seen in England, following last Sunday's newspaper allegations of spot fixing by three Pakistan players in the Lord's Test. Salman Butt, Mohammad Amir and Mohammad Asif were all provisionally suspended by the ICC on Thursday evening after allegations of bowling deliberate no-balls in the fourth Test between England and Pakistan. They were questioned by police in London on Friday but were released without charge.

This afternoon the first of two Twenty20 internationals between England and Pakistan is due to take place in Cardiff. But officials from the ICC and the England and Wales Cricket Board were braced for further revelations last night by the News of the World which might put the series in jeopardy.

On Saturday, the Pakistan one-day captain, Shahid Afridi, apologised on behalf of Butt, Asif and Amir. "I think it is very bad news," he said in Cardiff. "I think on behalf of these players – I know they are not in this series – but on behalf of these boys I want to say sorry." He added that he had not spoken to them and had not asked if he could apologise on their behalf.

Meanwhile, the legal adviser of the Pakistan Cricket Board says the three suspended players have acknowledged the businessman at the centre of the fixing claims, Mazhar Majeed, is their agent – but have denied knowledge of any alleged wrongdoing by him. The News of the World accused Majeed last weekend of accepting money in exchange for organising Asif and Amir to bowl no-balls.

PCB legal adviser Tafazzul Rizvi also said on Saturday that the three would have to fight their cases on their own if they appeal against their suspension.

I predict the reaction from PCB will be.....

Former Essex cricketer charged in fraud probe The allegation relates to Mr Westfield's performance during a 40-over match between Essex and Durham
Former Essex professional cricketer Mervyn Westfield is to be charged with conspiracy to defraud over claims he deliberately played badly in a match.

He is alleged to have dishonestly agreed to bowl against Durham on 5 September 2009 in such a way as to let a certain number of runs be scored.

The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said it had instructed Essex Police to charge Mr Westfield, 22, of Chelmsford.

He is due to appear at City of London Magistrates' Court on 24 September.

The pace bowler was arrested in May after suspicions were raised over a 40-over match.

A second player, Essex and Pakistan leg spinner Danish Kaneria, 29, was also arrested and questioned but police said last week that he would face no further action.

Police were investigating allegations surrounding spot betting, a niche area of gambling where people bet on specific occurrences in a game.

'Defrauding spectators'

Antony Swift, of the CPS, said: "I have advised that Mervyn Westfield should be charged with one count of conspiracy to defraud for intentionally playing other than to the best of his ability, contrary to his contractual obligations.

"It is alleged that he dishonestly agreed to bowl his first over to allow the scoring of a certain number of runs at a match between Durham and Essex.

"There is sufficient evidence to prosecute Mr Westfield and it is in the public interest to do so."

Mr Westfield has been released on bail.

The player is accused of conspiring to defraud the club's members, his team-mates and spectators at the match.

The offence, under the Criminal Justice Act 1987, carries a maximum sentence of 10 years imprisonment and an unlimited fine.

Mr Westfield was released by Essex County Cricket Club this season.

Pakistan cricket trio face corruption charges

Three Pakistan cricket team members and an agent will face corruption charges, the Crown Prosecution Service has said.

Mohammad Amir, Salman Butt and Mohammad Asif were accused of "spot-fixing" offences in the fourth Test against England at Lord's last August.

The players and their agent Mazhar Majeed will be charged with conspiracy to obtain and accept corrupt payments and also conspiracy to cheat.

They were suspended in September, accused of bowling deliberate no-balls.

The International Cricket Council, which conducted its own investigation, will present its findings on Saturday.

The players, who are all from Pakistan, and Mr Majeed, 35, of Oaks Road, Croydon, are due to appear at the City of Westminster Magistrates' Court on 17 March.

Simon Clements, Head of the CPS Special Crime Division, said the charges "relate to allegations that Mr Majeed accepted money from a third party to arrange for the players to bowl no-balls on 26 and 27 August 2010, during Pakistan's fourth Test at Lord's Cricket Ground in London".

"We are satisfied there is sufficient evidence for a realistic prospect of conviction and it is in the public interest to prosecute," he said.

Mr Butt, the former Pakistan captain, and both Mr Asif and Mr Amir were provisionally suspended after the allegations of corruption surfaced during last year's tour of England.

It was claimed Mr Asif and Mr Amir deliberately bowled no-balls at pre-arranged times during the Test, with Mr Butt also said to be involved, in return for money from a bookmaker's "middle man".

They denied manipulating parts of the game in this way, which is known as spot fixing.

The News of the World, which originally made the allegations against the players, said it would "continue to assist the police with their inquiries".

Bound to happen, I expect serious bans imposed by the ICC tomorrow.

Verdict expected today in a few hours. Apparently life bans for Asif, Butt with a 5 year ban for Amir. I wonder why the lenient sentence for Amir?

Probably took into account his age, and short time in the game, and decided he was encouraged and influenced by the two senior players.

Who cares, 5 years, he's banned from every form of cricket, other than with his mates at the local oval....His career is finished.

ICC bans:
Salman Butt gets ten years of ineligibility, five years of suspended sentence. Mohammad Asif gets a sanction of 7 years, two years of which are suspended. Mohammad Amir gets a sanction of five years' ineligibility.

Rubbish from the ICC, Butt & Asif (in particular) deserve life-bans - and I'm a Pakistan fan.

This is not the ICC, right? It's an independent tribunal. Not quite sure how it works..

How do these suspended sentences work? It's not like they're going to be playing any cricket over the next 5 years to breach any rules again which'll trigger the suspension.

I think it's a 5 year ban during which time they play no cricket and then they'll be allowed to play cricket but during the 'suspended sentence' period if they commit any further breaches the suspended sentence kicks in.

Since they haven't given a length of time I take it they are suspended indefinitely.

I know they have given a length but that is for the actual suspension, not how lon it is suspended for.

Has any of his sentence been suspended? If not he has the same punishment as the ring leaders.

I would personally would have preferred a life ban for all the perpetrators.

None of Amir's sentence is suspended, 5 year ban only.

I'd definitely have had Asif banned for life given his history.

What I don't get is Salman basically getting the same ban as Amir.

The reason I would have preferred life bans is their demeanors since they were caught. They just strolled around with smug faces as if they had committed no crime.

Nope. Made that post before the verdict was out based on rumours I read online.. was just speculating.

What a great talent was Amit, sadly a great fast bowler who possibly had the chance of being a world great is gone.

It seems the present rules did not allow a lesser sentence than five years.

Shock! Horror! More news and more stings revealing the never-ending matchfixing tales.

FWIW, I know I keep claiming Pakistan only largely lose due to match fixing but I reckon India do the same. Most sub-Indian continentals don't have a choice, join them or have their families threatened. Not difficult to choose between the two.

Bet the Pakistan Bangladesh match was a real disappointment for you.

Pakistan looked like winning, then they looked like losing at which point you'd have drafted your "I've been telling my father since 1932 about the fixing" posts.. then they won.

 Where the hell are you talking about?

And if you're considering Indian or Sri Lankan players in it, then obviously you need proof. Doubt with all the scrutiny and money that's involved in actually playing, cricketers would be dumb enough to fix results or hell even leak info. At the international level ie. Families threatened pfft.
