For all that I was banging on about CM depth, I'm surprised that he lasted this long. Superb player, who turned in some top performances against some of the elite-tier midfielders in this pool.
went back and forth on him for a few rounds, but then decided that with Zidane and Hierro already, his playmaking would be somewhat surplus and he’d be a bit wasted in a b2b role for me.
Was it you earlier or perhaps Moby? Falcao-Effenberg-Zidane midfield trio and got lot of flak for that.

dang. That's so mean.You made the right choice in my opinion. Ballack is perfect as a carrier/runner/surger for your side so far, which I rate as one of the three best at the moment. So don't mess it up!

I had a bit of an issue myself in that I won two drafts with him in the team. He suited me very well here... except for Sammer. Last time out Effenberg went through the long slog of playing every game and then for the final the entire tactical setup changed and revolved primarily around Sammer, a reinforcement. On the pitch he would perform anyway, none of that bollocks would get on the way of trying to win a final, but out in the training ground... Man, he broke my balls all day long, kept questioning the tactics, Sammer knowing what he was doing, why he had to be part of a setup built around a bloody sweeper, Matthäus was a quitter, yadda yadda... He was also shagging Raúl's missus and he has since found out about it.

1998-2001 the more nippy/mobile/probing version of this guy was unstoppable for club(s) and country.
Argentina had a storming WC qualification campaign with a record points total and only one loss (A to Brazil). They would eat everyone alive in Korea & Japan. Then, come the World Cup, Bielsa decided Batistuta (a shadow of his former self who hadn't been involved much) had to start AND they couldn't start together. A mistake of EAP brainfart proportions, surely.
But then seeing him play after that World Cup, it did seem that -like Argentina- he too had peaked early. Suddenly he did actually look like an old and rather static Batistuta.
At the risk of confusing the hell out of people, it was like watching Rossi in 1978 and 1982. Always liked Rossi 1978 better, whatever the results tell you. Same with Valdanito.
