Ive been in situations in NI and in the US when it was assumed everyone was either protestant, catholic or in the US case
okay with racist talk. Its really unsettling to see how bitter and hateful people get when they think they are in a safe environment to be that way.
It's toxic I've mean I've been in places and situations where after so many drinks you start singing songs.
In some cases you get some people singing rebel songs and in some cases loyalist songs depending on what circles I was moving in.
I'd like to think if it ever got to a point of songs that personal and hurtful there would be some people going hold on none of that and putting an end to it.
Tbh I’ve changed my stance as I’ve gotten older. Plus I’ve lived in Dublin for about 18 years and I’ve realised everyone’s shit smells the same.
Westminster doesn’t give a crap about NI either.
Politicians in the North, both sides have played the same cards for the 30 years I’ve been paying attention, for their own good not ours.
so it’s time for a reset button. If that’s as part of an all-ireland I wouldn’t be against it. However it would need to be delicately handled. There are 2 sides to be every story.

I could see Belfast and Derry benefiting a lot in a United Ireland as Dublin is pretty much at capacity now in terms of business and industry in Ireland and no other city is really there to take some of the load.
There are a lot of mixed reports over what a United Ireland would do financially.
A lot of negative claims early on but more recently there have been those who believe it would have the opposite effect now.
It won't be easy and it would help if the south got its shit together with healthcare and housing. Other than that there would have to be a divorce settlement with the UK and a huge investment from the EU.
The instability of Britain that will continue for at least another decade due to Brexit will fuel the appetite to get this done in my opinion. Like I said it wont be easy.

The rivalry would be strong between Tyrone and Derry but wouldn’t go that deep more a dislike, sounds like someone is trying to deflect blame here.

I’m calling BS on this. I live 3 miles from Greysteel and have a lot of connections with Faughanvale GAC. There is a strong rivalry between Derry & Tyrone alright, but it never leaves the park.
Feels a bit like someone is trying to deflect blame by creating rumours such as this within the PUL community, to make them feel better.
Greysteel like every other place in NI isn't entirely one way or the other in the same way Dungiven has plenty of prods in it and Carrick has plenty of Catholics. Not saying it's anything to do with this but just a general observation

I guess im biased but looking from the outside It kind of has been in recent years to be honest. Depends what your talking about but the DUP specifically are building up a pretty grim record. I mean an awful lot of the problems associated with brexit can be lay at their door. Blocking abortion services and being dinosaurs is another unpleasant characteristic. Holding the political governance of the country hostage for what, 4+ years at this point. They provide a lot of ammunition regardless of your background.
I’ll give an example. On Easter Monday there was a Republican parade where petrol bombs etc were thrown at police. Zero mentions in this thread. Just wait until July.
