Nordic Ghost Yeti (Scandi Carroll) | Haaland at City

This is incorrect, there was nothing Haaland just threw a boot at the ball and got a lucky flick than caused it to bounce beyond the keeper
You just described countless great goals in history. That is what football is all about.

People (righfully) still admires Rooneys bicycle kick despite him botching it a bit technically, connecting with his shin and not cleanly with his foot. But the thought of even attempting it and how aestetically pleasing it is to look at is what makes it a great goal. Even as a City fan I of course hate that goal but can still admit how awesome it was in isolation.

The improvisation, the fact that the ball ended up in the corner of the goal, and the fact that a big f*cker like Haaland can both plan and execute an acrobatic move like that on the fly is what made the goal so good.

Agree that there is always an element of luck in a goal like that but the instincts and athleticism required to make that connection has to be admired.
It's the third time at least that he's pulled off a goal like that so there has to be intent behind what he does and it makes the "tap-in merchant" jibes sound pitiful.

Fallen off a cliff in the past month.
Think the team behind him have fallen off a cliff more than he has. We create absolutely nothing and every chance/goal he gets now is usually down to him winning some scrap in the box or something crazy. His level has lowered but he's probably the least of Cities attacking problems right now. He was better than Foden, Bernardo, Gundogan today. Only Nunes of the attackers can say they had a better game.

Doesn’t score in big games, if he doesn’t score in average-sized ones, what’s the point? Contributes absolutely nothing apart from goals City would probably score regardless.

Once again, a CB giving him the physical treatment completely shuts him down.
I thought he did okay under the circumstances except for those 2 heavy touches today. In all of those 4 wrestling matches, he was still able to make a finish. By the rulebook, he was probably fouled before two of his finishes. Not saying he was robbed of a pen or anything, but many strikers would have gotten less than 2 finishes today.

nobody is guaranteed to score with a human backpack on them, but at least he got very close.

I think that’s being generous to him. The very best strikers score important goals regardless of the treatment they get. He needs to be the difference maker and he very rarely is, for all the goals that he scores.

The biggest contradiction of a player that I can remember. brilliantly effective with an incredible record, and also one of the most uninspiring, unwatchable strikers in the league.

I did not say that he was good, but the best number 9s has games like today and a lot worse under these circumstances.

The reason Van Nistelrooy scored 3 non-penalty goals in 30 games vs Arsenal,Liverpool and Chelsea(excluding friendlies) is mostly because it is harder to score with someone on you for 90 min.
And you occasionally get someone one you for 90min against the weaker teams also.

If he got 1 or 0 shots it would be bad, but he still got many finnishes with his human backpacks on.

He would struggle for us as we wouldnt put loads of chances on a plate for him
For norway he gets a goal every 87 min. He would not score like that in united of course, but he still would have his movement in united, which is why he get so many chances in every team he plays for.

They showed a replay of the penalty and ball just bounced up a little as he struck it, so he just got under it a little bit.

Not that I care, what I found interesting was Rio saying Ronaldo used to try to do that deliberately, so he'd be connecting almost like a volley with the ball. Genuinely never heard of anyone trying to get that kind of hop on the ball by using their standing foot.

Do you think Norway put loads of chances on a plate for him to score? Or Salzburg for that matter when he scored plenty against stronger opponents in the CL?

Yeah probably. Seeing as how his international goals have come against the likes of Kosovo, Gibraltar, Romania, Cyprus and Armenia…

Stronger opponents in the CL?
He scored against Napoli and Liverpool in the CL when he played for Salzburg. (2 penalties and 1 open play vs Napoli and 1 goal open play vs Liverpool).

That's not what was asked though, the question is about him scoring Vs strong opposition.
Cool. Just feels like you're trying to pick faults. At Dortmund and City it becomes subjective who are strong opposition in comparison to them. At Salzburg pretty much every game you will face in the CL is a strong opponent and he scored against all of them. That was the point of the poster you were responding to.

Scoring 4 goals at the age of 19 against prime Lpool(who went on to win the whole competition) + Sarri's Napoli while playing for mighty Salzburg is still very impressive. And don't forget the 4 other goals he managed to score, albeit vs an opponent on similar level(Genk) his numbers have continuously been remarkable ever since.

He's become an exaggerated version of himself. People have often said all he does is score, that kind of thing, and I'd always think so what?

It's noticeable how he's become less and less inolved with each passing season. Here's his touches per 90 career trajectory from league games, most recent at the bottom.

Down to 19.3 touches while penatly area touches at a career high.Didn't watch last night, just the 14 touches in the whole game apparently.

Jamie Vardy is the only player in the entire league who touches the ball less if we ignore the players with tiny sample sizes. There's 455 players on that list in total. Vardy an older player trying to preserve his energy playing in a weak team.

Haaland looks a bit flat-footed to me when I have seen him lately, as though he could be playing through injury or is just exhausted. Bad move letting Alvarez go and not buying someone to share the load. No surprise at all if they get someone in January, they need it. Regardless of that, he'll still score a ton due to amount of chances / those penalty area touches which are elite level. When not scoring he really does offer nothing at the moment more than ever before.

maybe peak Haaland" is over now and "peak Gyökeres" just have started....and "peak Razmuz" is still to come.

Doesn't like being bullied, can't handle and teams are getting better at keeping him quiet.

Let down massively by Foden, Savinho, Gundo again. Prime CR7 would struggle to score with our current creativity. Single headedly our only goal threat. Teams know if you can double up on Erling or crowd him out we have nothing else. Give him a pass today. Our best attacker.

Omar needs to work his magic here. Pick him up when their house of cards collapses. He’s made for Amorim ball.
