Nolan's Batman

I read this theory on a forum that Joseph Gordon Levitt is actually the Joker. I laughed it off in the beginning as it is a bit of a stretch but he does have a striking resemblance to Heath Ledger...

He is listed as John Blake in imdb, I don't know if that's a known character or just some random guy.

Seen a few people speculating that John Blake could have some link to the Joker.

Some people speculating that his name is even a play on it bein JOhn blaKE - I would imagine this is pure coincidence, especially as i'm sure that I read Nolan stating that the Joker would not feature.

Still, little things like that may have been put in purely for people to speculate and generate more hype pre-release.

People went on a mad one speculating that Mr.Reece from the last one was obviously the Riddler because it sounded like Mysteries.

People are idiots.

I agree on your second point, generally.

As I say, I think things like that are put in, purely as talking points and generating interest. A lot of pre-release marketing is viral now, and these little snippets of vague reference certainly help.

If he was going for Knightfall story arc, why not name the character Valley?
He is listed as John Blake in imdb, I don't know if that's a known character or just some random guy.

If Nolan were to name Levitt as Valley, that would pretty much reveal the plot of the film or at least part of it. Keeping his identity as John Blake (who is a unknown character) doesn't give any of the plot away and also enables Nolan to throw in a twist! But saying that the same could be said for Marion Cotillard's character who is still being rumoured to be
Talia Al-Ghul.

The more I read about Azrael / Valley and after watching the trailer, the more I believe Levitt's character is going in this direction.
I'm not saying he'll end up donning the suit or that he is being prepped as the future Batman, but after reading that he "He works with Alfred Pennyworth to find the weapons dealer after he has captured Bruce Wayne" in the Knightfall novel, he's described as playing "A hard-nosed young Gotham beat cop who is secretly helping Batman to bring down the super-villain known as Bane" in The Dark Knight Rises and in the trailer it looks to me that Bruce Wayne is in some sort of confinement (with Tom Conti's character) and Levitt is seen cautiously infiltrating somewhere... these little pieces seem to come together.
But that's just my outlandish thoughts! :D

Do you guys think he can top The Dark Knight?

If he can match it I'll be impressed.

To be honest, my only concern with this movie is that he might try and go too big and take things too far. I'm sure he won't, but it's always a risk with sequels like this.

This. Word for word!

He knows the expectations are huge because it must be one of the most anticipated films in recent years.

I'm not looking for it to top the previous two, being of the same standard is enough for me. Personally I prefer Begins to TDK, but theres not exactly much in it, and I'm hoping it'll become one of the very few trilogies you can say that about. Nolan is a pretty humble guy, so I don't think he'll let any expectations get to him, he'll do it how he and his brother want it and thats that.

There's no doubt aboot tha'

I'll be going to see it on IMAX for definite, expensive but when something has a good number of scenes shot with IMAX cameras it deserves to be viewed properly.

Does that chanting sound like "This is Awesome, Awesome, This is Awesome, Awesome" to anyone else?

Looks okay, but why is there a random clip from Speed of Sound - Bradley Gorfinkle Ward: The True Story of a Deaf American Football Player in there?

Joker, without Heath Ledger TDK would've been average.

There are plenty of actors who could've done that role very well. It was simply a great character, as that was how Nolan wrote him.

Obviously Heath took it to the next level and deservedly goes down as one of the all time great villians IMO, but even without him TDK would've been a great movie.

I certainly don't rate TDK as highly as some crazy people do....but to say it's only good due to Ledger is beyond insane...the film would be far worse without the Nolans than it would be without Ledger.

Robin Logo? | The Dark Knight Rises Trailer Breakdown | Features | Empire

Nice little trailer breakdown by Empire.

This was amusing!

The voiceover from Alfred suggests that the figure with the cane walking up to the platter on the table might be Bruce Wayne’s careworn butler. But look closely at the reflection in the dome, and you’ll see it’s another major character — injured enough that he has difficulty walking…

Why do they try and make out it could be Bruce Wayne, when there's plenty of other shots in the trailer that show us it is him. Bruce is on top of the manor in the shadows holding a cane during the Mayor's / Gordon's speech. When walking into the ball (just before the scene with Selina) he's clearly walking with a cane in his right hand and finally when he's talking to Cotillard at the ball he's leaning on the cane in his right hand once again.
Bane's gonna do some back breaking early on ;)

Hm, if they do this, then it would seem they either have to out BW as Batman and make that part of the story, or else they need a decoy Batman to pop up and do Batman-ey things once in a while so BW can keep his identity secret.

Judging from what happens with the Catwoman character, it seems highly unlikely that they're doing the former.

Or they're doing the other thing.

if Bane is in the league o shadows then he might now already who batman is such as Ras did and the other member who attacked him. I think what someone said is right and he fe led up Wayne a few hers prior but not the extend of a broken back. He will be healed enough for the timeline of this movie. Interesting to see them go into the batcave. I they are doing a tone of the credit crunch then Gotham could be at it's weakest and this is the leagues time to strike. In begins Ras said they tried using economics before to destroy Gotham but now it seems Banes brute force will be the next move.

That's my theory but I come up with a new one every bloody day. Release it now god damn you.

What a dull trailer that was. Still can't see why people are looking forward so much to something that's just going to be a slightly better run-of-the-mill action flick.

Some crystal ball you have there.

Maybe its because its a critically acclaimed director without a bad film to his credit directing an all star cast in the final movie of a fantastic trilogy?

But will he succeed without a mesmerizing villain or some "mind fecks" and stuff like playing a movie backwards, genius ideas to treat his audience like idiots and distract them from what really is average action flicks.
