Nolan's Batman

I disagree that a film with Batman and Superman wouldn't work, as characters they play off each other well, and I mean, they're Batman and Superman, they're great. But in no way would I want to see Superman and Batman together in a Nolan film. Nolan's film universe has already been clearly established as realistic, or as realistic as you can get with Batman. He's already turned Ras Al-Ghul from an immortal dude into Liam Neeson, he can't go throwing super-powered aliens into his film universe now, it would ruin everything, it would be like that robot in Rocky 3. Just no.

Why is it so horribly impractical or improbable to believe that in the context of that fantasy universe there is a vaguely messianic alien living in a not-New York City who does the same sort of stuff Batman does in another not-New York City?

The tradition of Batman and Superman existing in the same universe goes back to the 1940s. They've always existed in the same universe since Somewhere out there is a Green Lantern, a Flash, a Wonder Woman, even a Green Arrow.

We've just not seen them because they aren't integral parts of the stories we happen to be told of the fictional character's life.

FWIW I hope they never do "The Killing Joke".

I always thought that Batman and Superman were shite allies, because one of them is basically omnipotent and the other is a man in a suit. It's like that Mitchell and Webb sketch.

They really should've killed off the Batman franchise when they had a chance. Batman Begins was nice, but Dark Knight was a bore.

Dark Knight is a bit too long to be honest. Begins is better.

The Dark Knight shits all over Batman Begins. In my opinion, obviously...

Same as, I can't even compare them.

I didn't mind Batman Begins, I was never a batman fan anyway so for me to find it enjoyable was good enough, I was very impressed with The Dark Knight though, considerably better.

If I would compare them, then I suppose The Dark Knight would be the kid scribbling away on his pad, he's active and it's fascinating to watch.

Batman Begins is that stupid kid at the back, he's fallen off his chair and is drooling on the floor. He's retarded compared to kid one, but nevertheless, interesting.

Just finished shooting a scene in India for the new one apparently. If you didn't know it confirms the return of
Ra's Al Ghul
as a villain (albeit most likely in a flashback scene).

From The Times of India -

On Monday, Christian Bale, Josh Pence and Christopher Nolan left India in a chartered flight, having shot for 'The Dark Knight Rises' in Jodhpur.

Christopher Nolan and Christian Bale's date with India got over on Monday morning, when they took a chartered flight back from Jodhpur to London. Both Nolan and Bale had arrived in India on May 4 and had shot for "The Dark Knight Rises" in front of and inside Jodhpur's Mehrangarh Fort on May 6 and 7. Accompanying Bale on this India trip was Josh Pence, the actor who was digitally superimposed with Armie Hammer's visage to portray one half of the Winklevoss twins in David Fincher's " The Social Network". Pence was recently cast as young Ra's Al Ghul and is one of Batman's greatest enemies.

Incidentally, a green screen was created just outside the Fort. Nolan shot in front of the green screen and used the Fort as the backdrop. Sources say that this backdrop of the Fort has been used to establish that Batman is in an exotic location which is isolated too. However, this backdrop isn't meant to be shown as India in the film. Back in the UK studios, this 30 ft x 30 ft green screen will be digitally modified to create the Lazarus Pit. For those not in the loop, a Lazarus Pit is used by Ra's Al Ghul for gaining restorative powers. Scenes of Bale being carried into the pit and then jumping out of it were also canned. A couple of locals were cast as extras in the scenes that were shot in India.

However, it was not all work and no play for the cast and crew of the film. "Despite the intense heat, filming

continued without a hitch and the unit was satisfied with its Indian experience. The unit is supposed to have complimented the professionalism of the On The Road production unit handling the Indian leg of the shooting. On Sunday, the unit had a day off. So, Bale, who was accompanied by two children, took an autorickshaw ride in Jodhpur. However, no one really recognized him since he was wearing a cap and was sporting a beard. Besides, the whole team also went shopping. Bale bought textiles, shawls and pashmina from Jodhpur. The team also loved Indian food that was served to them during the shooting," says a source.

On Monday morning, around 9.30 am, Nolan, along with the cast, left for the UK. The rest of the film will be shot there.

Ra's Al Ghul
was such a letdown in Batman Begins, just like the movie was as a whole.

Hi. I know you are Batman and I'm going to kill you with a fire in your house. No way you escape that. But first I'm going to tell you every little thing that I will do to Gotham City first because let's face it. It's not like you will be able to stop me anyways.

Hate crappy bad endings that ruin the rest of the movie like that. Happens very often in movies based on comics.

Spoiler Warning:: Image of Tom Hardy as Bane

So Nolan revealed yesterday that the 'Dark Knight Rises' will be set
8 years after the events of TDK

That should be interesting. Set's up a lot of possibilities.

Didn't know this, very interesting where they can go with this time period. Good idea of Batman being the outcast for 8 years but atleast he'll be hopefully over rachel and won't be moping around all movie.

Also next month TDKR prologue will be released, apprantly attached to Imax versions of Sherlock Holmes 2 but I'm sure it will find its way online. Its going to be the first 7 minutes of the film and will be introducing us to Bane.

Prologue will be attached to the IMAX version of MI:4 and the trailer is rumored to be attached to Sherlock Holmes 2 along with a teaser trailer for the Hobbit!

Yes, people then realise that the whole playboy thing was not what he was really about. It would also close the storyline that may/may not have begun from the ending of the Dark Knight where Batman is cast as a villain.

Both characters could be redeemed in the events of his heroic death.

I vote with Bill.

Cheers for clearing that up for me gaz, now I have to go see mission impossible 4.

Anyone see the Empire covers?

Big news for the 6 mins prologue that will be attached to MI:4, Ghost protocol. Lots of 'internet speculation' and people claiming to have seen it. This is spoiler heavy but sounds very cool if true.

SPOILER ALERT -

According to the site, the prologue covers one of the assassinations ordered by Ra’s al Ghul. “A mind-blowing action sequence set aside the Hercules plane, involving some innovative camera work, a la Inception’s hallway fight scene”, it says.

The scene sees Bane and his crew hijacking a military plane, that happens to be carrying a nation’s dictator. Bane “successfully kills the leader, but makes some mistakes along the way and is unable to safely land the plane. Because of the resulting injuries from the accident, he has to undergo complicated surgeries, and that is how he winds up with that scar down his neck, and the need for the mask to numb the pain”.

Rama's Screen’s source also suggests that the backstory of Bane has been altered. Now, he’s raised by Ra’s al Ghul, and “his upbringing mirrors that of Bruce Wayne”.

Working for the League Of Shadows, “he kills political figures that are deemed unfit”, and “he comes to Gotham to start a revolution by revealing the cover up dealing with Harvey Dent”, along with “killing the Mayor, among other key political figures”.

Bale's wrapped apparently. According to a copy of the Metro I read on the train last night.

And speaking of the Metro, don't type TDKR into google if you don't want to be spoiled (at least partially) because the Metro have, brilliantly, written an article on this spoiler, with the subheading SPOILER! - Don't read on if you don't want to know...But underneath a fecking headline spoiling it. Twats.

:lol: They really are geniuses over at the Metro.

Oh and on a side note, Bale is making a couple of movies with Terrence Mallick. Now that I can't wait for, provided Mallick doesn't go overboard with the religious metaphors for a change.

Here's the confirmed list of IMAX screens that will be showing the The Dark Knight Rises prologue before MI:4 -

UK - BFI London - London

UK - National Media Museum IMAX - Bradford

UK - Glasgow Science Centre IMAX Cinema - Glasgow

UK - Odeon Manchester IMAX @ The Printworks - Manchester

Plus the release date has been pushed forward to the 21st December

Rumours abound (or, my mate told me) that the trailer proper, or something like it will be released when the countdown ends on this viral site.

OPERATION EARLY BIRD

Currently about 18 hours away.

I doubt it will be the trailer. It's probably just the start of the viral marketing overdrive like they had with TDK. This came out yesterday -

Something to do with the preview and the spoiler i posted a few days ago. I'm be looking tomorrow, just in case it is the trailer.

It could be the trailer(hopefully). If its attached to Sherlock Holmes 2 and it is out soon then they could put it online rather then crappy phone videos on youtube showing it.

Empire magazine have seen the prologue. Probably doesn't need a spoiler, but I did it just to be safe.

The six-minute prologue to The Dark Knight Rises won’t hit cinemas across the pond until December 16, and the UK audiences have to wait until December 21 to see it in front of Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol. But Empire’s Man in LA was invited along with a select chunk of press types to see the footage early.

We won’t be publishing a blow-by-blow of the details, so you need not beware major spoilers, but if you’re looking to see both the prologue and the rest of the movie totally fresh, you might want to skip down until the end.

Chris Nolan himself was there to introduce it, and spoke a little more about why he’d embraced IMAX even further this time. “It's a film format that was invented the year before I was born, but it is to this day, far and away the best format that has ever been created, there's nothing to touch it. The best way to see that, to get the benefit of the action scenes the way we've seen them is on the screen of this size. So we wanted to get it out there for fans to let them know what this experience going to see, why it's worth seeing, and worth seeking out.

“For me as a filmmaker, this format takes me back really to how I was as a child, seeing this incredible larger-than-life format. That's something I wanted to bring back. I've found it an incredible immersive experience, and there's something very exciting about showing people this prequel. So that's why we're getting this out so far ahead of the rest of the film. I haven't started editing the rest, so don't ask me what happens in the end!”

And the lights when down and the fun really started.

Can we sum the footage up in a word? No. A sound? “Woooargh!” Launching with Gary Oldman’s Commissioner Gordon remembering an old friend we met in The Dark Knight, it then segues into the main event. A miniature thrill-ride in and of itself, the prologue features some stunning camera work (clearly Nolan felt like applying some of the tricks and style he mastered on Inception) and the opening sequence, which gives us our first look at Bane (Tom Hardy), comes off like a cross between a Bond movie and everything we’ve come to love about Nolan’s Bat-universe. Highlights include one very confused CIA agent, a truly clever attack, superb stuntwork, some threatening words from Mr Bane himself and a lot of clues about his links to the bigger story.

After the prologue came a brief sizzle reel burst of shots from later in the film, which gave us proper looks at Anne Hathaway in full costume, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and a certain wonderful toy. The major feeling we were left with is that we want to see more, and we want to see it right now.

Trust us when we say you really want to experience this on the biggest IMAX screen you can find. And where might you find the screens in the UK? Funny you should ask! You can find the list here.

The Dark Knight Rises is out on July 20, 2012.

Well the combined power of geekdom has managed to crash the site just as it finished counting down. You'd think they'd have prepared for that.

The few people that got it working said it was something incredibly shite like IMAX co-ordinates or some other pointless cock.

fecking hell. I counted down the last 10 mins and its the fecking coordinates for IMAX like you said and Denvers not even on it. I swear, being a geek is so disappointing some times.

They're just fecking with you. Ridiculous thing to set up a viral marketing game for.

You seem really excited about this movie Mockz.

I am a bit. I'm rarely excited about movies though. I'm also spending way more time on the internet than I used to, which just leads to incessant procrastination, which in turn leads to fecking about on movie sites. Bah!

That operation early bird is also links to booking tickets just to see the bane prevew thing on its own at IMAX cinemas.

Theres a few tickets left for the second showing in Manchester. By doing this though they have probably just doomed MI ghost protocol to half of it's weeken openings.

The viral campaign for this is gonna be in overdrive and just stupid.......should check out some of the nerds on SuperheroHype forums, they went nuts for the TDK stuff when it was kind of fresh....they'll lap this up even though they'll drag things out even further.
