Gaming No Man's Sky | 25th May New FREE Update: Leviathan

Elite is a sim. Unless you are willing to spend a long time binding keys and learning all the systems I'd keep clear. I bought it on a steam sale and i just don't have the time or patience to play it.
not a fan of key binding mini games no. Thanks for the info.

yeah. I agree with that. Elite is probably not the best game to get into the genre.

It is always hard to recommend any 3d-space game because most of them have quite substantial flaws.

Personally I might give CDF Starfighter VR a look later this year, but it is early access and could be utter garbage. Rebel Galaxy or Strike Suit Zero: Director’s Cut might be interesting and a bit easier to access compared to Elite, but they are not really simulations and I havn´t played either yet. You could always pick up freespace 2 or Freelancer for a penny, but both are obviously quite old.

I´d say the basic rule is: The more freedom a space game gives you, the more you´ll have to do rather tedious stuff to progress, while those games that are less ambitious and more streamlined (e.g. stronger focus on action, fighting or story) are usually easier to get into.

Have you tried Elite Dangerous? I've been looking at that after the disappointment of No Man's Sky. Apparently it also has fairly shallow gameplay but I can't imagine it being as shallow as NMS.
Look into a game called Empyrion: Galactic Survival.

Its not got the steep learning curve of Elite Dangerous, and it actually has stuff to do like base building unlike in NMS.

Black holes are fairly disappointing to look at in this, wasn't expecting the full Interstellar gloriousness but some lensing at least would've been nice.

Think I'm getting to the point now where the worlds are beginning to merge into one.

Also where in the name of salty Jesus can you find Omegon?

Someone here (@Eriku ?) asked me in what ways the devs had lied about this game.

Well it just so happens that Angry Joe's review lists pretty much every lie the devs have promised, which makes it look like they previewed almost a completely different game from what's been released.

Watch from 10.06 - 20.51

The devs essentially conned us, and considering this is not an early access game and they're charging AAA prices, they deserve all the criticism and vitriol currently aimed at them.

Star Citizen will be better than Elite (but its a PC only game).

It's one of the few games I am actually going to buy, play, adore and probably live in.

Some dude just posted a spoiler on reddit about what happens when you get to "the centre".

Feck all, basically. He's livid.
I am considering a refund after reading about it on reddit. People have actually reached centres for 11 galaxies then same thing happens.

Waiting for devs to patch the living shit out of this mess and then try it but one of newer reviews stated that this whole game might be just a tech demo for an engine to sell to bigger companies like EA.

Looks like Total Biscuit was too easy on this game. It needs more than one patch, probably even "We're are terribly sorry edition" with majority of things redone.

Why do people pre-order games? Why do people buy games on day 1?

It's like nobody has learnt anything from all the previous times similar things have happened. If you keep giving them money for broken games and/or broken promises, they'll keep shafting you.

I guess a lot of the pre-orders for No Mans Sky were kickstarter funders?

What's funny is during an interview with Sean Murray, the interviewer jokingly asked if that exact ending was what was going to happen - Murray laughed it off as ridiculous and lazy.

Awkward how they've only gone and used it

It looks amazing but you can never be sure what the final product will be like until it properly comes out. Best to avoid getting too hyped up if you can help it.

So is anyone still playing it? Looks like they've lost over 90% of their players, per reddit.

I lost all will to play after I found out what was at the centre of the galaxy. The game is clearly not finished yet and playing it in this state will only leave a bad impression on me.

This really should have been an early access game, then it would have invited far less criticism and backlash.

So I heard about the PC issues but took a gamble and bought this on GOG, with their 30 day money back guarantee. I've got an i5 4590, 16gb RAM and a Palit GTX 970, if anyone's asking.

Loaded the game up, waited like a mug looking at that white colour screen for close to 5 minutes until I realised you had to press and hold the E key.

The game started with terrible tearing, and on medium settings. Change the settings to high, 4X FXAA (iirc), change the FPS limit to 110 (I've got a 144hz monitor) and exited the game. Updated my Geforce drivers. Didn't fanny around with any settings outside of the game itself.

Went back in, and it's been glorious. Not checked the FPS but it's smooth as butter and I've had no crash to desktop issues.

Spent 5 hours straight and was almost late for work. What a game. Glad I've got my off day tomorrow. Will try to download some shaders I read about in Reddit.

Quoting myself here because I'm amazed at the difference between how much I enjoyed the first few hours and how much I hated the last few hours before I returned the game. I logged 12 hours on the game. In the end, I just kind of got bored with it. The solar system wasn't even moving around. The sun was in a skybox and the planets hung around in the air in fixed positions.

Then I started watching videos of the features that were promised but not delivered, saw the ending of when you reach the centre, watch the videos of Murray blatantly lying about the game in his interviews, and just decided the game's not worth the 60 bucks I paid for. Got a refund from GOG.

It's the first time I've returned a game. I like to think I have the self control and bullshit detector to avoid buying lemon games, but damn, this game got me good.

If I wasn't preoccupied with other things (namely a fresh Witcher run with a few dozen new mods), I would've been caught hook, line, and sinker. Now I may not buy it at all unless a future summer Steam sale puts it at a fraction of the price.

Yeah, now that's what I think I'll do. If more is added to the game, that is.

Witcher's on sale on Steam. Tempting, but I think I'll wait for the GOTY edition. At least with CD Projekt Red, you don't mind paying a full price because of how much good work they put into their game. It was ridiculous that people with 1080s were having frame rate issues in NMS, and even more ridiculous that they were asking 60 bucks for the damned thing.

I bought it on day 1. First time since MAG (except games from reputable companies, like GTA, RDR, etc). Like MAG, massive failure. I think I was basically tricked by reviews that gave it something like a 7, probably from reviewers who expected too much and were in denial of their disappointment. I figured a 7 for this kind of game wasn't that bad, particularly when many of the flaws were things I cared little about.

I played 3 hours of it and have been glued to Blackflag ever since. Didn't know I could enjoy an AC so much.

In reality I think any positive grade to this, when you account for expectations, lies and price is ridiculous. It would pass as something mildly interesting for $15, at $60 it's a ripoff. That said, many AAA titles from reputable companies are as well, and they never get this kind of scrutiny. I'm not that bothered I bought it, there's a funny side to being a part of this. I will eventually pick it up again out of curiosity, just need good drugs, I can play any shit on them.

2/10 for me.

Certain games are fine to preorder, latest Deus Ex for example, Uncharted, or any GTA game, as you know they'll be excellent games. I would never pre-order a game like this though and it has flopped as I expected it might do.

Looks like a lot of people on board the hype train for this one have gotten royally fecked over. Glad I didn't get it.

The gameplay in this might not be to everyone's liking but some of the visuals it generates are fantastic

Fantastic? It looks like Yoshi ate a bunch of curry and shrooms and then tried to duplicate the end result.

When I get back into my everyday life in a few months I think I'll probably pick this up, just out of curiosity.

It's not going to ever be anything other than what it is now though. There's never going to be base building (what would the point be? You'd still have nothing to do, and I think with the way the game is designed, building would be a huge step) or anything significantly new.

I keep saying I'm gonna stop playing until they add things but then I come across things I've not seen before.

I also just got my first atlas pass blue print, it was v3 too

Even with those there's a danger. The first Bioshock was excellent but the second was a derivative, nonsensical mess. Then Bioshock Infinite returned to form.

I'd only ever consider pre-ordering from a developer that has earned my unconditional trust, and those are rare. Naughty Dog and CDProjekt Red are the only ones to come to mind. Pre-ordering from a developer without a proven track record is absurd in my opinion.

I'd add Rockstar to that list
