Gaming Nintendo Switch 2 | Announced. Nintendo Direct 2nd April 2025

I was going to buy a switch but thought it'd be a waste of money. All I'd play is Pokemon on it. No interest in Mario or any of the other Nintendo games. Wish they had more interesting story type games to play.
Honestly if you're just going to play Pokemon, just download delta on your phone and play there.

Can't believe they didn't change the thumbsticks/buttons. They aren't exactly the best. Strange no improvements - from what we can see right now.

I only care about the improvements in graphics and the cool new first party games. Shame we have to wait until April to see anything

I only play fifa on ps 5/xbox series S. If it's able to play fifa on 60fps and have the next gen version this is the only console I ever need.

It will be an inferior version as the switch 2 will probably only be about base ps4 level in terms of power.

Imagine being Sony and making a huge thing out of the PS4 Pro, like it's the pinnacle of videogames, and then this little tiny console comes along a few years later and does the exact same thing only you can use it squatting on the touchline

I really think people look at the 'power' of Switch 2 in the wrong way.

Of course, we'll have to see how it ends up performing once developers have done their best with the tools and tricks available. However, just saying it's "about as powerful as a PS4" isn't going to mean it just gets ports of all PS4 games and nothing that comes out from next year onward. What it should be compared to is the original Switch. If you've actually owned one, you'll know that quite a lot of games look good and play rather well on the device. Switch 2 is probably going to be in the realm of 3-5 times better than that, along with the DLSS (or similar) capabilities on top.

Some games were of course struggles from near enough the get-go, but the games that had the right amount of development time or were ported over to the Switch with the right amount of effort ran quite well. More games over the last couple of years have definitely shown the Switch is becoming very outdated, particularly because first party Nintendo games have even had framerate issues. What I hope is that the Switch 2 will basically allow this extra power to be applicable to the original Switch games rather than forcing us to pay for patches or 'enhanced' versions.

Maybe I'll be totally wrong, but just because in terms of 'raw power' it's a roughly a PS4-PS4 Pro squeezed into a tablet doesn't mean that's exactly how games will run. Technology moves on and there's more that can be done alleviate any hardware shortcomings. There will be games that run like turd though, just like there is on every console.

I hope the 30th Anniversary Pokemon game works perfectly...

All that said, the events to get to try out the console run all the way up to early June. I really think it won't release until June, but the first year of games could be quite strong both in terms of games that work on Switch & Switch 2 and those that are exclusive to Switch 2.

That's quite the turnaround. I wonder if it'll be a full spec port.
As long as it has my dude, Hwoarang, I don't care what specs it is!

But most likely they'll scale it back, probably lose a bunch of modes and customisations etc and simply have story mode, arcade mode, versus battle and online battle.

I'd be happy with simply online battle tbf.

Slightly disappointed in the reveal hard to make a proper judgement without knowing the screen/internal specs.

The obvious thing I question is the durability of the new connectors on the sides (especially as this is predominantly a kids console, more so then the others anyway)

The stand also looks like it would snap very easily. You have to presume it’s an OLED screen if it isn’t that would be a major disappointment.

I’ll buy it just because of the first party games, but it would be great for Nintendo to push the hardware a little.

 Looking like an 8-bit game.

Nah, if they’re going to make the effort, they’ll do a good job. Online will be the acid test.

So what games do we reckon will utilise the mouse?

Starcraft.
Civilisation.
Command and Conquer.
Total War series.

Maybe Diablo and/or Advance Wara?
