Gaming Nintendo 3DS vs PS Vita thread.

Quick reminder for anyone that owns any of these DS games:

Animal Crossing: Wild World
Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies
Professor Layton and the Curious Village
Professor Layton and Pandora’s Box
Professor Layton and the Lost Future
Professor Layton and the Spectre’s Call
Pokémon Black Version
Pokémon Black Version 2
Pokémon White Version
Pokémon White Version 2

On May 20th Nintendo is shutting down their Nintendo WiFi service, so if there's any free content for any of those games that you haven't downloaded yet, you'll need to do it before that date.

I've got a lot of Professor Layton puzzles to download.

So I'm seriously considering getting myself a Vita. Few questions, maybe someone like @Earthquake can help.

is it worth getting the Slim over the standard? Seems a bit much paying £30 more, it can't play games that the other one can't or anything can it? Plus I've heard the screen isn't as good. Also the normal seems to have good bundles on amazon, is it worth paying £198 for the mega bundle? I see the Disney bundle is only £150, seems crazy, don't think I'd have any interest in the games but the fact that it comes with the memory card...

What games to get? Obviously FF. Uncharted? Persona?

Memory cards are a rip off. If you have PS Plus you will have endless games

Apparently the old Vita's screen is far better than the new one. So get the old one. There is a bundle with Little Big planet and a few other shitty games that is good value

Uncharted is pretty good on it

How much is PS Plus Randy? I hear it's awesome value.

Yeah, the memory game is a stupid price on its own, seems like the smart thing to do is get a bundle.

This the bundle you meant? http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sony-PlaySt..._5?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1395655953&sr=1-5

Think is about €50 per year

I think only 8GB cards come with the bundles, it wont be enough to hold all the games on the bundle which is simply retarded.

I have a 16GB card too which cost something ridiculous. Why they didnt just use normal SD cards is beyond me and no doubt it has gone against them.

the disney one comes with a 16gb and is only 150, I doubt I'll play any of the games but it still seems like great value, think I'll go with it.

@Cina

50 bucks a year for PS+ is a ridiculous deal, I had more than double that in "free" games downloaded in hours when I first got mine.

The old Vita has a better screen, but the start/select buttons are awkward, and the battery in the Slim is supposedly much better.

Memory cards are a rip, but you'll never have enough space. On the upside, one you've paid for a game, it can be deleted and redownloaded as many times as you like. You can also save copies of the games to PC or PS3(maybe PS4 too?), for loading them onto the Vita quicker than redownloading them from the PS store directly.

Games? Final Fantasy is a must, IIRC you can get almost all the first 10 too(not sure about 3), along with Tactics(the PSP one). Persona is brilliant(no FF, though), Uncharted is good, Assassins Creed too. If you like golf/crazy golf, Everybody's Golf is an immense game.

You can also start an American account and download their exclusives/ps+ games, IIRC, but I haven't tried it.

Cheers dude, defo seems worth it so. Really don't think it's worth it with the slim, no bundles that can match that Disney one there. Would be 200 quid with the memory card.

Yeah, if you don't mind charging more often(I definitely don't), the slim has nothing worth it over the original, which isn't that big anyway. That OLED screen is ridiculous. Like I said, the start/select buttons are a tad awkward, but they're almost never used, I use the start button once a blue moon to take screencaps. Any PSX game on it can have their start/select buttons mapped to the touch screen or touch pad on the back too. On the old Final Fantasies I always map L2-R2 to the top left/right corners too. Makes running away very handy.

Cina, Crash Team Racing holds up great on the Vita.

I expect you already know that though.. I imagine it's the sole reason you're considering a purchase.

Ah, CTR was epic shit.

FF games are the main reason, the thoughts of being able to play them all on a handheld device just make me all flustered!

Already bought the PC version and the handheld version. Inevitably going to buy this one as well...
Here, let me show you around the boat.....

@Cina Virtue's Last Reward, Rayman Legends, Persona 4, Wipeout 2048, Killzone Mercenary are all really good.
Forgot Wipeout and Killzone. Wipeout is a fine racer, if not as good as 2097 on the PSX was. Killzone is immense, especially since you have a bit of an option on how to approach most levels. Had more fun with that than Killzone on the PS4, no lie.

That's the best thing about the Vita.

Replaying classics and then checking out whatever games PS+ chuck at you every month.

It's got the PSP Tactics game if you never played it too? Some other great series on there aswel, Prince of Persia, Tomb Raider and Crono.

Got my Vita there, what a lovely little machine it is. Uncharted looks great.

So aside from the obvious games to get such as FFX and Persona 4, what else is there? I also can't wait to replay some old PS1 classics too, Crash Team Racing

Tearaway is a must have. I also enjoyed Toukiden: Age of Demons. Gravity Rush is supposed to be good. I have it on my Vita but have yet to play it.

Spelunky, Hotline Miami and OlliOlli should also be purchased.

I think Soul Sacrifice is still free for PS Plus users. A lot of people seem to like it. I wasn't blown away.

I thought Crash Team Racing held up incredibly well - probably benefiting from the Vita. Really enjoyed replaying it.

Wipeout is great if you're able to pick it up on the cheap. Wouldn't spend much on it mind.

PS+ has Uncharted, Gravity Rush, PixelJunk which are all worth a try. Also have sales on the classic Tomb Raider games!

Can't personally recommend OlliOlli but it's got great reviews and looks lots of fun. I'm downloading it as we speak.

Lots of indie games are on the Vita now. It's a great machine for them. I never did want to play the likes of Hotline Miami and Spelunky on my pc but on the vita they're great, Spelunky especially is very addictive.
