Gaming Nintendo 3DS vs PS Vita thread.

Weaste - what games do you have for the Vita?

I am considering getting one if there is a price drop/good deals.

Only bought it on Thursday. I've got LBP Vita, Rayman Origins, Super Stardust Delta, WipEout 2048, and 2 PSP/PS1 games on it (GT PSP and FFVII). Shall buy some more this week, especially Gravity Rush.

Things still not looking rosy for Vita. Just one decent game on the horizon in Assassins Creed and it can't be enough to draw people in. They've even managed to screw up CoD by giving it to Nihilistic who developed an awful Resistance game for Vita recently. Surely someone has to come up with something decent soon? FIFA 13 was a major let down too, they've basically changed the squads from 12.

They did that with the Wii version too, just renamed last year's version  (Literally)

Though to me that's all they do each year anyway

And I almost bought it when I saw it early in the store, luckily enough I waited for the reviews and decided not to bother.

Yeah. It's not really something that a customer should have to do though really, make sure they aren't buying a re-skinned version of a previous game advertised as something new

Sales of the Vita are fairly poor aren't they Weaste? You reckon Sony might pull out the handheld market if this one fails to deliver?

Indeed, I prefer to put games on my iPhone so I have them with me all the time as I won't carry a 3DS or a Vita with me. When I travel somewhere for a prolonged period I obviously take one or both handhelds with me, but normally I spend more time playing the iOS games. There's a good selection of them too - you can play GTA3, FIFA, Real Racing, Max Payne and Crazy Taxi on the go and have lots of fun, for less than $5 a piece.

It just need a price drop, of about €100. But they'll hang on, they are refusing (righty or wrongly) to take a loss on the hardware. They will not however dump the machine, it will feck up not only their brand but their entire gaming strategy. As a piece of hardware it's absolutely mint, gorgeous in fact, and there is a lot of software there for it too. It's just too expensive - I spunked €400 on the thing with a 32BG mem card and other bits and bobs.

It needs more games and also needs developers to take it seriously. What they did with FIFA13, Resistance and what they're about to do with Call of Duty is inexcusable.

That's Vita's problem, there just is so very little need for it.

I wouldn't say that per-se, but it's a niche product, you are right, which is why I suppose that they refuse to drop the price. It's going to end up in a phone isn't it? But then it will lose all of its buttons! iPhone etc. cannot give a real gaming experience due to restricted input options. Playing say Super Stardust on the fecking thing would be a nightmare. I suppose it's down to what you want. VITA needs more classic arcade games like SSD. LBP on it though is fecking brilliant, by far the best entry in the series. If Nintendo had released this block of hardware you'd be rubbing your cock in coconut milk.

Yeah, but they treated Wii like that as well. I agree, VITA should be getting a full on COD BLOPS, not a spin-off, because the hardware is capable of running it, there's no doubt.

If anyone hasn't bought Mutant Mudds yet it's a good time to, since there's a free update available in a couple of days with 20 new levels

*Sorry to interrupt, posting it because I just watched the video*

I downloaded tales from space;mutant blobs attack, for the vita last night.

For under six quid you get a fantastic little platformer.

There's loads of little really good games on it with proper controls.

I can play MGS HD Collection and FF VII on it, anytime, anywhere.

Why would I? You always tar me with the same brush as yourself, yet I only really follow the games. Who makes them and the system they are played on is irrelevant to me.

Fact of the matter is the 3DS offers me much more than the Vita, though technically the Vita is clearly superior, it misses the point of a handheld by a country mile. However, since I'm not really a handheld gamer, even that doesn't really hold my interest, it's played more by my missus and the boys, though it definitely offers games and ways to play that the consoles don't. Whereas nearly everything on the Vita I already own, and it is expensive for what it is.

No doubt I'll own one eventually, I always do (in fact I bet I own more Sony consoles than you!), but the PSP remains to this day the only machine I've never regretted selling, and I just think the Vita will be a waste of money and time, even for me.

I'm going to get a 3DS next month, I love Nintendo software, always have. However, don't try to get out of the fact that you are, and always have been, a Nintendo bum chum.

 I've been called a Sony fanboy on other forums!

I just balance you out on here. Fact is, with you being so staunch Sony, I have to go Nintendo because I'd rather a midnight meeting with Jimmy Saville than stick up for M$ too much.

It's not my fault I happen to be so good at it ;)

Exactly. Launch titles were very promising - Wipeout, Uncharted and FIFA were all excellent games which got everyone excited. Since then the only half decent titles released have been Gravity Rush and LBP. They screwed up new FIFA by making it the exact same game and Resistance by making it awful. F1 had PSOne graphics. I'm hoping for a good Assassins Creed release but I still think it'll need 2-3 good games a month to draw people in. Then again developers know there aren't many Vitas around so spending extra few millions on developing a game might mean a loss.

Word around the campfire is exactly that, developers thought it'd be a dumping ground and easy money for conversions, but the sales are poor. It is a huge shame, but I know for definite that UK developers (what's left anyway) won't put much effort into it (without guaranteed funding), largely due to both publishers offering pittance for games and the lukewarm feedback from clearly demoralised Sony offices.

fecking recession, combined with Sony's insistence on trying too much and selling too high, means it's unlikely Vita will recover and sell bucket loads to make it worthwhile. Vicious circle I'm afraid.

I think Sonys biggest mistake is to try and make a portable PS3. There is a reason why Nintendo differentiates their handheld from the home console. People are looking for something different on the go

Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask is getting good reviews. I guess this will be the game to make me stop my break from buying new games.

There are lots of small games on the system though. I don't see the problem in offering both worlds, and the cross platform play idea should in theory have something of value in it. It just needs a serious price drop. Who is going spunk the amount I spent on the 3G model and a 32GB card when the Wii U will be available for less? Especially in this economic climate!

You can buy a WiFi version for £140 in Poland these day, it needs to go down below £100 to be seriously competitive unless it simply gets a bettet library of games at one point. Something like portable GTA5 would take its sales through the roof.

The funny thing is, even though 3DS sells well, there's little success on the software side apart from Nintendo's Mario games. I'd say the 3DS has an embarrassingly few worthwhile titles for a piece of hardware that's out for two years.
Their third party support is awful.

I think the problem is that the PSP Vita games play like the PS3 ones. They are just watered down and not as easy to play/fun on the go. Nintendo has differentiated its handheld platform through the use of 3d, touch screen (which will soon be on the home console) and generally creating new games rather than ports of console games

Which is exactly what I said would happen on here and other places back when the Vita was announced.

Watered down PS3. Which is a shame because I agree with Weaste, it's definitely a well designed machine.

People are actually looking for Mario. Everything else on the 3ds sells horribly. It's cheaper, which makes it the choice for many parents, so it sells well, but software wise it's actually not great at all.

And when you say Vita has only console ports, then you obviously don't know what you're talking about. Besides that, a lot of games are actually better suited for a handheld and being available for the PS3 doesn't make them bad games all of a sudden. Some people like the freedom of picking up a game like MGS when and wherever without the hassle of hogging the tv and living room. But I guess it's a matter of opinion. For some people like me the Vita is a great way to play some games whenever I have little time, or during the evenings when the missus has other plans for the living room area and tv (which is almost every night).

The weak third party support is a problem in the long run, but's it's also a problem for the 3ds. Good western developers prefer to aim for the big money with a full blown console games rather than bother with a handheld. That won't change. What Sony should do for the vita is supporting it more through their first party studios.

Anyway, Vita's in its first year. Last year this time, the 3DS had nothing. (not that it has anything now, for me anyway)
