I think this will happen, they want to announce Di Maria first to keep the fans happy, if it was just De Jong and Blind then there would be protests.
I would love to see De Jong here, I got a lot of time for him.
Got no problems with Nigel coming in, he would certainly add a bit of nastiness to our midfield, something we've lacked for years.

Absolutely fine if we get him. Would be great backup for Carrick as the holding mid and actually a better bet than him for certain games. If we cant get a top player in, no point spunking 30mil on an average one, get this guy on the cheap till we can find a top player there.
Rojo's a bit of a shit as well. I'd be happy to see us sign another nasty bastard.
So the midfield target is a bit of a mystery at the moment, doubt it'd be the Brazilian guy, Vidal seems to be going know where, and would have thought De Jong would be a back up option at best, could be someone from out of the blue, still think Carvalho is a possible, with Anderson the other way.
I'll be honest that I was strongly against the idea of going after De Jong a month or two ago but I think he'd do just fine if we do go after him now. As much as I'd love us to sign Vidal, I think that transfer is way too complicated (concerns about his knee, price, etc..) and going after a De Jong type player for the short term and Strootman for the long term is a much more sensible option.
You know what-at this point I'd rather have a pure CDM like De Jong then Vidal. Maybe I'm just sick of the whole saga-but with Di Maria I think we have enough offensive fire power. So-Vidal now is a luxury we can do without.
He's a luxury who could give us the title in Van Gaals first season. Something De Jong would never elevate us to. Thats the difference and thats why we need Vidal. We aint gunning for 4th regardless of our current predicament. We are only lavish spending away from being contenders over the next week.
Vidal is a luxury? Oh my....Would love him to come here. I'm just not going to be devastated if it doesn't happen. With a solid DM and Di Maria I think United are in good shape until January-at which time we can see what else is needed.
Right now I'd settle for a CM signing full stop to compliment Herrera whoever Van Gaal decides. Obviously Vidal is the one. People must consider tho that more financial outlay similar to the figures mooted for Di Maria for me makes not making top four this season a dangerous prospect financially. Course debts dont matter when your not on top it seems but its worth thinking about how far its prudent to stretch right now.

He's a good fit for us. However, I dislike hime after his "City has more fans in Manchester" comment.
If we get him on loan or something that's okay, at least he's better than Fellaini. Paying money for him would be stupid though, in a year or two he'll become another piece of deadwood we can't shift.
Gotta get Nigel in... what's 10 million to hold things over till the winter transfer window when hopefully we can get a healthy Strootman.
He'll come on a cheapish fee, just give him a 2/3 year contract and let it expire.
Even if we signed Vidal, I'd still want De Jong. He's a great option tactically.
He'd allow our attackers more freedom. Yes his passing isn't expansive. But Herrera, Mata, Di Maria and co can do that stuff. His job would be to win the ball back, which he is good at.
After saying we are a big club that could sign Vidal or Messi I doubt LVG is going to sign someone like this!

If there is trio RVP - Mata - Rooney you know we will always suck at winning the ball back. Lets just play max two of them okay Luis?:-) De jong would would be in any case the player who is better than cleverley and fletcher so it would mean they are benched which is good..
He'd be very useful. He'd partner Herrera better than anyone we currently have and he showed at the WC that he's still capable of very dominant performances. It's already been a great summer with regards to strengthening the long-term. A stopgap signing wouldn't be so bad.

Exactly. I don't like him much but he's a massive, and I repeat massive improvement on the players on our books we call midfielders.

After Cleverley and Fletcher and our defensive shambles, I think it's clear that we need a bloody defensive midfielder. He's a defensive midfielder who can play at the highest level, despite not being top quality. I think I'm alright with that.

Don't think Di Maria is purchased to be played in midfield, could be wrong but I doubt it. We lack quality on the wings as much as we do in the middle. I think another signing will address the current cm-problems.
