That run was class. I've only really seen him briefly but does he often make those kind of runs? What player is he comparable to in style?

Zidane! (I have the highest hopes for this lad)

That's the first run of that type I've seen him make, but he has the balance and feet for it, and critically, the smarts to lay the ball off at the right time.

Looking at his game, there's really nothing missing. The way he used pace and power to brush past markers last night was very impressive. And, as Pogue said, he was one of the youngest players on the pitch!

I hope he plays in Turkey. He should.

As a few others have said in response to Pogue, the issue was and still is quality not quantity. I'm still not sure Anderson will ever make the step up to regular starter, Scholes and Giggs need phased out, and Fletcher has played a few champions league/cup games and not looked all that great. Yes we have bodies, but are they really performing that well?

On topic though, I'm really looking forward to (hopefully) seeing Powell starting in our last two group games.

Specifically against Villa, the problem to me looked like defenders pushing up the pitch and not having the pace to get back.

For the first goal, Rio was the only man back, and other than him Rooney was the only one who made it back to the penalty area by the time the ball went in.

Anderson, Cleverley, Fletch and him all need games. The first three are likely to be preferred at the away game in Turkey. Though I would be disappointed if he doesn't start the home game against Cluj.

I would guess that Cleverley won't be starting these games, he's starting fairly regularly in the EPL. I would expect Anderson and Fletcher to start, allowing Powell to be the third midfielder.

Lets hope so. Though Kagawa would also be back for the last CL game and is most likely to be used.

It's a shame that Petrucci is injured. Would have loved to see him get some minutes in the two games.

I'd like to see Powell in the last 2 cl games and hopefully if he does well we can get him a decent loan, really think he's too good to stay in the reserves but obviously not united standard yet. I just hope that we put out balanced teams in those games so we can really get a good idea of his quality, sometimes I think fergie makes too many changes to fit everyone in and the team looks disjointed and as a result players can't really impress.

I just doubt he will given the number of other options we have in that area whom also need minutes (Fletcher and Anderson in particular). Not to mention it's incredibly hostile and Fergie will still want to field a strong side to maintain the integrity of the competition and the club.

You may well be right about Fletcher and Anderson starting in midfield, but looking at the squad that has gone, it is hard to argue it supports your case that he will "field a strong side to maintain the integrity of the competition and the club."

He is going to field a Carling Cup side.

I really wanted to see Powell in this game when I assumed Anderson would be playing against Norwich. Now i would say it is more important to give Anderson the minutes, and Fletcher is surely a shoo in.

Hopefully he makes a good impression tonight, Ive been impressed with his performances lately both for us and for England

Tip of the diamond? Could be great there.

If he doesn't do well tonight it will be more to do with the experimental line-up and context of the match than anything else. Fingers crossed for him, and the rest of them

Impossible to say. He has the ability to play both, amd has played out wide for the reserves but probably prefers being more central.

I'd be surprised if it's not the diamond tonight, looking at that lineup.

I'm not really sure Büttner's that ideal when we play this formation though. Tends to deprive himself of responsibility and just pass it short all the time.

Out of all the youngsters he is the one i really rate, for me he is better than Anderson and possibly Fletcher..

He's impressed me in that half, doesn't look out of place at all. There's something about him which suggests he's going to be a fantastic player.

Aye, he's got that aura of class around him. The way he shifts his body when turning away from challenges, the way he always got an idea about what to do on the ball, and his goal threat. He's special alright.

Not the most impressive of halves, though. A bit wasteful.

Very impressed with Powell thus far.

The last young player, and playing in a similar position, to look this complete upon entering the first team was a certain Paul Scholes. I'm not for one minute saying Powell can be as good as Scholes as nobody could ever know that, but just watching him play indicates just how accomplished he is on the field. Dare I say it, but even Scholes wasn't featuring for the first XI at the tender age of 18, never mind say to look so comfortable.

We've got a gem on our hands here.

He was playing League 2, a year ago. He doesn't look out of place at all. He's a class act.

Yep, deffo!!!

Ando reminds me of a retired player playing in a testimonial and Fletch has not been the same since his illness so yes he is better...

Oh god.

Also, he's been very wasteful this first half. He's looked about as good as a promising 18 year-old attacking midfielder should with three midfielders in behind him screening the defence and providing him with the ball.
