Nicholas Williams | Bilbao winger

Assume his wage demands will be insane. From what I can gather, he's the second highest paid player at Bilbao (behind Iñaki):

https://m.aiscore.com/salary/team-athletic-bilbao-w34kgmi3w8a8ko9 - £169k per week
https://www.capology.com/club/athletic-club/salaries/ - €200k per week
https://bilbaohiria.com/en/sports/salaries-of-athletic-club-players-for-the-2023-2024-season/ - €200k per week

If he's on anywhere near that at Bilbao (mental) then he'll be demanding upwards of £250k per week at United.

Which is obviously a lot.

He is class though, I'd sign that off if I was Manchester United CFO. Sign and recline.

Didn't realise he was paid that much, can't imagine he is going to get that much of a pay rise though.

It is loads, I was also very surprised. If he's not offered a sizeable pay rise I imagine he'll stay at Bilbao. Also if the reports of Chelsea baulking at the expense are true, god knows what he (/his agent) are demanding.

Probably a disgusting agent fee + £300k per week. Added to the release clause and it all of a sudden becomes very expensive from an FFP perspective.

Outside of Real Madrid, Athletic Bilbao is rich as feck football team. They also spent a fortune rebuilding their stadium and everything, having the Basque players clause* actually helps them a lot in terms of that. They usually don't need to spend too much buying players, but earn a ton with release clauses to their gems.
Interesting. I didn't think they were loaded like that as a club. But I guess I should have figured it out given that they built a new stadium. Good to know.

The issue with release clauses is that you have to pay them in full. No instalments, so a heavy burden on cash flow.

His agent knows that his client has a low release clause for a proven young attacking player who is starting for Spain in big tournament. So it is normal they ask a big signing fee and big wages. It is not their interest to save money for the clubs that are after their service. If you want to save money, go for the unknown and unproven young players that are still plying their trade in the lower league.

worth paying that release clause

For me I’d rather give Mudryk more room to grow and prove himself, but if we don’t get a consistent tune out of him next season, then yeah we’ll probably be on the market for a LW. I’m ok with some other team giving this kid his big contract.

Isn't it because their transfer spending is set by la liga so he has an input into what they can spend.
Still highly unprofessional to be talking about a transfer between two clubs in the league like that. Imagine if Richard Masters was talking about how Arsenal could afford to sign Isak from Newcastle - he wouldn't last the week.

fine...he said say yes they can afford to spend this window but does it require him actually saying a player by name?

So Williams can be got for 49m pounds?

If we get deals on the table for Sancho and Casemiro, there should be easily enough wiggle room to push through Ugarte, another CM and Williams. In addition to the CB signings. If we sign him to a 6 year deal, the annual amortised transfer cost is just 8m. And he’d be on less than Sancho wages wise. The sale of a homegrown player, like Hannibal, would cover the cost of it for this year. Williams would be a sensational signing.

I don’t see it happening, but financially….if you look at the potential outgoings this year…..there’s plenty in the budget to bring in the players we want. Cash flow wise we could do the same thing we did with Zirkzee, pay an additional 3-4m and spread payments over 3-4 year installments, instead of all up front. From a PSR standpoint, I don’t see it being an issue at all, assuming we secure all the outgoings that are mooted.

It’s rare a player of his age and quality becomes available for such a fee. Unfortunately, I bet this is a “has his heart set on Barca” type situation.

Yeah not the done thing over here, but the la liga officials have been getting involved much more heavy handedly than we've ever had over here. They were ready to tear the football world apart when PSG took Neymar off Barcelona

How we sign him is anyone's guess but it will be done I think, so much smoke and his bromance with Lamine - the two are inseparable  Apparently already have an agreement with Nico. As for Tebas, probably more concerned with keeping talented players in La Liga.

He wants Barcelona, and is in no hurry to leave Bilbao as he's happy to play another season there with his brother and wait for Barcelona for next summer.

Barcelona see Yamal/Williams as their answer to Mbappe/Vinicius, so he will end up at Barcelona sooner or later.

How the hell can Bilbao afford to pay him that?!

He's the player that's caught my eye the most in the Euros. He'd be a great signing for Barca or pretty much anyone bar Real Madrid. Crazy when you compare our financial position with theirs and the signings they pull off still.
Tapping up goes a long way with the big two in Spain.

£49m release clause and we're not even attempting to get him. Bizarre. What a player he is, and he will only get better. The most obvious signing we could possibly make if we want to be a big team again.

Apparently he has an agreement with Barcelona, but we have to try to do a Leny Yoro on this guy. It's not even a given that Barcelona can afford him.

Break the bank for this guy.

World class and would be a massive upgrade on Rashford.

If a deal for Rashford had materialised he would have been a great option to replace him and would've been a really exciting upgrade, unfortunately it looks like we're not in a position to even consider him, shame.

He wants Barcelona and doesn't mind waiting another year to move there if they can't buy him this summer.

The release clause is irrelevant if a player doesn't want to leave. He's on big wages so he's happy playing with brother in his local club

He was fecking amazing. I thought Walker had him shackled in the first half but even when he couldn't get past him his touch and link up play was still just on another level.

Rashford never had any athleticism. Slow and weak. No amount of hard work gets him anywhere.
Literally all he had, he was always super fast and pretty strong. I think you might be being sarcastic...
