NHL season 2005-2006

Maybe Edmonton can start packing unless they can come up with an idea to shutdown Joe Thornton and Jonathan Cheechoo.

Bloody hell 3rd period OT for the Oilers/Sharks...... It may be 2-0 to the Sharks in the series, none of the games have been clear in terms of the winning scorelines. A bit of luck and we may be the team 2-0 up. This game we're still playing is so important.

2.19 into the 3rd OT, Shaun Horcoff puts the puck into the net... YES, the Oilers are on the board, now let's do it again tomorrow night.

Here's a little story
About a hockey team
Who may just win the Stanley Cup
But only in their dreams
The team is from Ottawa
The Senators is their name
Soon to be inducted in the Golfing Hall of Fame
They think they'll beat the Sabres
Now there's a funny joke
Cuz every year in playoff time
The Senators always choke

I watched the first period and it was wild. A couple of lame penalties given against Latvia.
The fans' ire continued to rage into Friday morning, when a group of about 50 jersey-clad fans decended upon the hotel where the referees were staying, honking horns and shouting obscenities. Police were called to break up the crowd.

Looker, who called 25 minors in an Italy-Switzerland game earlier in the tournament, had to be escorted from the ice by a security as batteries and lighters were hurled in his direction during the stoppage in the third period.

People of Denver were last night advised to secure belongings as an Avalanche is crashing down all around you. So having greased the Dead Things Wings, and slowly poisoned the Sharks, the Oilers have to grease the wings and poison the Ducks........ before going forward to reclaim our trophy back!!

8 stitches, 3 teeth; winning a playoff game...priceless

You missed off, match winning assist from that list.. It was his pass to Horc's that won us the game.

Mind you what do you think, will this injury make Smyth any prettier than he was?

:lol: i think he really needs a haircut
na, that 8 stitches thingy was copied from sportsnet.

That doesn't suprise me one bit, Maurice has been with the Marlies, and knows the up and coming talent in the system. I don't know if he's going to make a lot of difference to the Leafs, but hey do I care?

As long as they don't win the cup I don't care. If I thought the Dippers winning the Champions League was bad last year, I dread to think how bad the media would be in Canada if the Leaf's ever win the cup again.

how dare you..

people are still after his behind for the 'Canes terrible season 3 years ago

So he had a poor start to his last NHL season, but he has taken a team to the cup finals. His record isn't that bad. I'm not too suprised to see him appointed, I mean who else could they have gone for? Marc Crawford perhaps?

I'm actually pleased with that. With the new rules and stuff, young guns have the advantage with the pace, and Maurice has done a good job in developing the youngsters (Matt Stajan, Kyle Wellwood, Carlo Colaiacovo, Ian White ....)

well he was 8-20 in his last season with the Canes (03-04) and overall coaching stat was 268-307-99. He led the 'Canes to the Stanley Cup Final in 02. OH.. and he's only 38 years old!

Gotta suggest that the Leaf's were a bit unhappy with the media by the timing of this announcement. Do you think that they were getting a biff miffed that the Oilers might just be taking over the lead story in the Canadian media, so decided to bring everyone back in line? I mean as long as there is.....

1 - An Ontario team in the playoffs;
2 - A Toronto Maple Leafs orgnaization functioning;
3 - No bigger group of sycophantic reporters than those stationed at TSN;

...the attention will never actually be on the Oilers, or really anything outside the Leafs nation driving distance. Just ask the CBC, who have had 9 cracks at producing a great playoff broadcast for the OIl, and have yet to do so.

If that's the case that's crazy. I don't think that will steal the spotlight from the Oilers (or maybe the Sens...)
Gotta say the pubs around Toronto are really quiet comparing w/ 2 years ago.
I know the CBC was unhappy '*** the Leafs didn't make it, which led to people here in Toronto watching other sports rather than the hockey playoffs (some may stick to the playoffs but still the number dropped tremendusly), the story of Maurice taking over will cool off after max 3 days, after the 'hockeycentral' or whatever that is on TSN finish analyzing the situation.
CBC is a Canadian media and they should support all the Canadian teams, can't boycott Edmonton just because it's not Ontario.

This was a huge win for the Oilers, my god Jason Smith deke's a goalie to score... Are my eyes that bad that I'm sure I saw that happen. Now for sure the Sharks haven't lost at home yet, but has this series really turned around? I hope so for the Oilers sake, oh and mine.

The further the Oilers get in this years Cup, the more likely hood that I'll be able to purchase more Oilers merchandise over here in the UK. Trying to find Oiler stuff is like trying to find someone who'll suggest Theodore is a good goalie.
