NHL 2024/2025

Can never have two many 2nd round picks. Laine is not worth his contract now, but Montreal are very unlikely to go to playoffs in the next 2 years, so doesn't matter. Best case for Montreal is that he plays well and they sell high after 1-1,5 years. Worst case is that he plays well and they sign him to a big contract. All offense, no defense players don't win you games and are never worth their contracts, but they do entertain, which isn’t worth nothing of course.

I’ll add a new thread mark here. That seems to be the way we’ve done things since 2017
Ah, I missed that! And I see you updated the thead title. So it's officially the new season now!

Yep, and same rules as before. No Habs chat unless it’s been pre-approved by me :smirk:

Horrendous news. So sad. feck drunk drivers!

Apparently the day before their sister's wedding as well, fecking hell man. RIP :(

The news of Johnny Gaudreau and brother's passing makes all hockey today meaningless. I may be an Oilers fan, and he may scored many a goal against us, but I just can't get over the brutality of the news. I should be watching GB v Norway in the Olympic qualifiers, but I just can't hockey takes second place today.

Olympic qualifiers completed, Denmark, Latvia and Slovakia through. GB did what I expected them to do and finish 3rd, no way we could compete with the Dane's or Norway in terms of talent on the ice. I'm not sure who'll get the invite once the IIHF confirms Russia can't compete. France has the better goal difference over Norway and Kazakhstan, so perhaps them.

@WeePat

I don't know if you followed Demidov this summer but one thing that surprised me is that he plays like a center, he is the driving plays, he plays as F1 on defense and competes along the boards. Also he seems to like to work from Gretzky's office and SKA has plays that put him in these situations. If the lad is decent at face offs, I could see him be the actual center in a line with Dach.

And so the madnes begins once again....... The new season is open and Buffalo seem to be as good as ever!!!!!

The Oilers pre-season hasn't been good, we seem to have defence as open as United's. Hopefully that will change come the league opener in midweek.

I binged the Amazon show yesterday, a bit of a mixed reaction I have to say. It was obviously done very quickly at the end of last season, which is OK, but some of the earlier episodes felt like we needed more story from the likes of Swayman, Pasta etc. The final 2 episodes were gold, though I'm sure had this been a second or third season of the show, they'd have really worked on more stories around the final, it was told very well.

I’ve seen enough, Lane Hutson is already a top 5 player in this league

I can't wait to see Hutson and Demidov together on the ice.

It will be cinema. Hutson alone looks like a real transformative player. I knew he was good but I’ve been stunned by how quickly he’s become basically the best player on the team.

I was SCREAMING for the Red WIngs to take him that year. Dylan James and Buchelnikov weren't exactly bad picks in the moment but it seemed such a home run pick for us, Left shot, from Michigan, usually all the things Kris Draper can't help but fall in love with. Mind boggling.

The pregame memorial and then the empty LW and 13 seconds run off the Blue Jackets and Panthers did last night for Johnny Gaudreau… that’ll make a man tear up right there.

This ain't your grandpa's Leafs

He is an avid supporter of war criminal, terrorist, dictator, whore of a cnut. Nothing else matters. That's all he will be remembered for
He grew up the son of a Russian Olympian in the Russian athletic system. Of course he was going to be supportive of Russia. Maybe it's because I am in the DC area where we love him, but he is known for his hockey here and will go down as one of the NHL all-time greats.

Wishing injury on a player

If he was supporting Russia, he would not support putin. He is a founding member of team putin and used a lot in his propaganda.

Actually, I take it back, I don't hope it is career ending. I hope he needs surgery, gets a bad infection and dies.
