NHL 2024/2025

The vast majority of hockey fans around the world don't have a clue about Ovi's relationship with Putin, so they will obviously only remember him for what he did on the ice.

Whatever propaganda Putin has him doing isn't exactly on prime time tv all across Europe so I'd say if your average hockey fan did see him say anything about politics it was when he was pestered with questions about Russia invading Ukraine by the US media and he said he didn't want a war, and that's about it.

Who gives a feck about Ovechkin and Putin.

The leafs are an absolute wagon.

Outside of injuries I think that the Habs will be too close to .500. So would it be a reasonable to splurge on a bonafide C2 and put Laine in an actually good 5v5 context?

@WeePat do you have an opinion on resign or trade Jake Evans?

I'm on the fence, I see good points in both cases. I would like to see Kent trade for an established 1C/2C and in an ideal world Beck would be called up to be 3C or 4C just based on his FO abilities, if the trading partner wants picks Evans could bring one or two picks on top of one of the 2025 firsts or there is also the scenario where Beck is the preferred option for the other team in which cases extending Evans becomes the best option.

What happened to RA on Spittin Chiclets? I know he got shunned by the Panthers when they win the Stanley Cup and then he took a leave of absence but what actually happened?

Where do you stand on the Hutson vs Celebrini, Calder race?

As a Gretzky fan, i hope Ovechkin never touches ice again.

I just learned that Gretzky and his wife are big fans of Trump, they attended both his election victory party and the inauguration. I know Ovi's had some pretty disappointing political visits on his own as well so it's not a comparison like that and it has nothing to do with their hockey careers obviously, but it's still pretty disappointing to see.

Hutson has more points as a defender.
Celebrini is younger and on a horrible team.

I imagine they will end up giving it to Celebrini because they know they need new stars in the league. Crosby and Ovi won't go on forever, rookie canadian centres are an easier sell than American defenseman.

Does it count that Hutson joined an horrible team, that was also the second youngest team in the league and that his play is a large part of the reason why they are not horrible anymore?

Absolutely, but equally Celebrini has meant that a team that probably wouldn't even win if they were the Barracuda in the AHL hasn't shit the bed quite as much as it should have.

For all of Montreal's youth, they are at the very least, definite NHL talents and a lot of them have taken the leap this year.

I would give it Hutson myself, but I know this league and what their top brass and media are concerned with most, they tried their best to not give it to Seider in '22 and involved Zegras and a 26 year old Bunting right up until the end.

Anywhere I can watch this 4 nations lark in the UK?

Can't say I've followed the tournament much, but definitely a nice ending for it all. McDavid the wrong guy to leave wide open there.

That tournament probably turned out to be a bigger deal than the NHL had anticipated!

Watch out for the NBA stealing this idea and it not working very soon.
I don't follow basketball at all, so I have no idea - but how much do people care about international competitions in basketball? (outside the Olympics) And would it be easy to pick a small group of countries to compete?

Hockey has an annual world cup, which gets a lot of interest - at least in Europe. The downside is that it starts around the end of the NHL play-offs, so it's always lacking various NHL players, and attention is divided because of the NHL matches. But that was all negated in this tournament, since it was an NHL event. And of course, it had the added 'luck' of being played at a time of high tensions between the US and Canada. Plus with Russia excluded, picking four leading countries became really easy.
