NHL 15/16

Didn’t read about that. Sounds petty alright  As you said, everyone cheats as much as possible and in general in NHL you can do pretty much anything, compared to other leagues and comps. Guess you gotta try everything and anything to gain an advantage, small margins and all...

Sharks might grab a win tonight, but based on what we’ve seen thus far, just can’t see them beating the Pens 4 times.

Game 3 was a blast! Not least because Donskoi scored the OT winner. By far the most physical game in the series so far, Sharks won hits by 46-17 , whereas they were pretty much tied in games 1-2. Pens outshot Sharks again, but that doesn’t tell the whole story. Sharks were aggressive in their forecheck and didn’t give any time for the Pens defence, the big difference was that Penguins didn’t have many 2-1s / 3-2s as they did in the first two games. Nice to see the series coming alive, game 4 will be huge.

Pens can become the first Pittsburgh pro club to win the title on their own home (court/field/ice) since the 1960 Pirates. All the Pittsburgh champs since 1960 have won the title game away from the city.

That would be incredible for the home support! There’s no way this will turn around, Pens were defensively perfect in game 4, I guess the only question is exactly that, whether the Penguins will do it at home or in San Jose.

Simply the best team in playoffs, well deserved Stanley Cup win for Penguins. They have quite a core that will easily have another 4-5 years in their prime, so there might be more to celebrate during the next few years. On top of that, their younger group of players; Murray, Määttä, Dumoulin, Kühnhackl, Sheary, Rust - got some extremely valuable experience from this playoff run and will only become better and better over time.

Extremely happy for Olli Määttä. The young defenseman beat cancer and multiple bad (head) injuries, the Orpik hit could've ended his playoffs and he struggled in the conference finals against TB. A solid, strong performance in the Finals though. Määttä was always on the ice when Penguins were defending a lead in the dying seconds of a game, impressive & steady performance from him in the toughest spot in his career thus far. The 21-year old adds the Stanley Cup to his trophy cabinet that already includes two OHL Championships as well as an Olympic bronze medal.

Matt Murray though, wow. An unbelievable spring for the 22-year old, could’ve easily won the Conn Smythe trophy, although Sid played a solid playoffs. Will be interesting to see if Penguins are bold enough to cash in on Fleury, that’s $5,75m off the yearly salaries.

Looked like it meant a whole lot to Kessel, I thinks he's really glad to be in Pittsburgh after being with the Leafs for so long

Pens deserve the Cup though, their turnaround since they hired Sullivan has been remarkable. Beat the best team from the regular season as well to get here.

This time of the year is always sad. No hockey until October. I can't wait to have my Habs back on the screen.

I hear you, although there's the World Cup to look forward to. The best players in the world, just playing for their countries.

Looking forward to it. I still can't quite believe Subban didn't make the cut for Canada.

Looking like we're going to be expanding to Las Vegas and Quebec is once more going to have no team. Here's hoping that LV does better than the other desert team, though it is more of a tourist destination and many more "away" fans would want to go to Vegas than Glendale.

As for Quebec, I really would like them to get a team back, I'm going to guess the state of the Canadian dollar is going to be the reason why the NHL didn't add them as well, but it would be nice to get back a full compliment of Canadian teams in the league.

Quebec definitely needs to have a team, the more teams Canada has the better. As you said, Vegas could attract a lot of away ”fans”, but it’s not going to be easy to create a strong home support/hockey culture.

Well, we may not have got our customary number 1 pick this year (I'm not sure what the NHL were playing at or thinking with regards that!!), but we still got lucky... Puljujarvi will go nicely with McDavid.

You've drafted one hell of a player!

We have drafted a hell of a lot of good players recently, if we can get a half decent defence to get the puck to these guys we might stand half a chance of doing well.

In that case Juolevi could've been a solid pick, too.

Looking forward to seeing Laine banging some goals for the Jets. Should fit nicely with Scheifele

Oh he will. He has set the bar high for himself, as he's quite a confident guy and has talked about taking the league by storm. It's pretty guaranteed that, barring big injuries, that he'll be a success, but not sure he can do that right away. He's a smart & mature guy though, was named the tournament MVP in World Champs, as well.

Puljujärvi was the 3rd pick in pretty much all the estimations, were you happy and/or surprised that Columbus skipped him and took Dubois?

Surprised, I was expecting us to move the 4th pick to drop down or part of a trade for a right shot D-man. I'd seen plenty of rumours about Subban. Looks like we've tapped into the Finnish programme for the rest of the draft with some sound looking picks.

I was glad Colorado got a team, as I lived there then and it made sense as there was already a good hockey culture there. It is sad though that it came at the expense of Quebec when teams started popping up in places where their lakes never even freeze over. But what do I know...I also think they should play in Olympic sized rinks and that half the names of MLS teams are ludicrous (Real Salt Lake? Seriously?).
Put a club in Mexico City!

Calm down, Goodell. We still haven't sorted out London.

HOLY MOLY!!

Subban goes to Nashville. Weber goes to Montreal.

Really thought Subban was untransferable! Is it really the head coach who's responsible for this..?

Everyone's blaming Bergevin.

This is insane. I can't actually believe Montreal have done this.

The friction between Therrien and Subban has existed since Therrien arrived as coach. PK was always the player thrown under the bus. Last season when it was going tits up, Bergevin said Therrien was doing a great job and he is his guy as long as he is GM. Don't get me wrong, Weber is also a great player. I'm a little concerned about the mileage he has racked up already in his career.

Not forgetting the $10m PK donated to the local children's hospital after getting his extension. The optics on this deal are terrible for Montreal if it doesn't improve them.
